My best friend is a DIE-HARD Elvis fan, and after I played this for her, she says she's consumed with guilt ... for loving it as much (make that MORE, if she'd admit it) as Elvis' arrangement. Somebody help me explain to the poor girl that it's ok to like/love a 'cover' of one of your favorite tunes as much as the original. Ain't no shame in that! LOL
Robert's rendition of All Shook Up is one of the best I've heard - thinking I'm liking it better than Elvis's! I shall treasure this one! Thanks fullmetal x
I'm dying to get a copy of this. Whom out there can send me one? Would prefer a high rez, which would require mailing a cd or something akin. Any takers? There's some new live music of our tours that is on YT, and it's buns up. -dony
Dony, it's so nice of you to chat with us fans of Robert's and y'all's music. I've searched online to find what happened with his estate. It's so sad that the assets were frozen and that Mary and the children seem to have battled in court. Would you be kind enough to let us know, assuming you do? Thank you, and all the best....
Thank you for your interest in what it was he and i did, the music. And I still wish someone could send me a high quality copy of this recording. Any takers? In regard to your query, unfortunately I'm not at liberty to comment, one way or another. I do look forward to assisting the estate in releasing and revisiting a lot of Robert's catalogue in several innovative ways, including many recordings of which the public's never heard. Soon come, me hope. -dony
Dony it's good to see you here. This is Sophia we were on the Robert Palmer Fan Club group together some years back...I hope all is well with you my friend.
I remember this concert on the BBC and this was THE highlight for me - absolutely outstanding. By the way his brother was an instrucotor of mine when I was in the RAF - strange but true - would love a recording of this
fullmetalentprise... my name is dony wynn, drummer on this track, as well as many with Robert over the years. I haven't heard this since we cut it and it is far better than I remembered, having been covering it as a goof while touring Oz and diggin' it. So much so, we cut this immediately after the tour. Bottom line? Now that Robert has passed, getting a copy of this is impossible. How might we connect so I can get a copy? Thanks for posting. -dony
Hello my friend. The track is on the B side of the 12" vinly of Mercy me/I want you.
I recoded it to MP3 and posted it hear. I am happy to send it to you, but my email is limited due to work filters so cant send it that way. I am however open to ideas.
Cos if so, that is quite amazing....You must've known Robert For Years
Your perfomances are hard to find on here now, but basically the entirety of ur tokyo show is on here, which is one of my favorite live concerts i've ever heard. I'm a huge fan of not only Palmer, but you in the whole band behind him
I am that guy. And yeah, Robert drafted me soon after I graduated high school and I spent the next 25 years with him, best friends offstage and on. Actually, not crazy about the Tokyo show, but the one we did with UB40 has some rather good moments, Addicted and Some Like It Hot in particular. Glad you enjoyed what we conjured on a regular basis. We had a lot of fun.... always. -dony
Well if you are who you say you are, it's really satisfying speaking to someone who helped make Robert Palmer as who we know him today. Its a shame he died so early
I 've always wanted to know these two questions. What cigarettes did Palmer smoke? and also was he good at the guitar? i've seen him many a time with a six string in his hand, but i've only heard him strumming. Was he just a simple player or a very talented musician on the guitar?
For years he smoked the red box Dunhill's, but after his move to Lugano he seemed to prefer Davidoffs. And Robert was one those unique animals that can make music on any instrument he picked up. And I mean anything! It wasn't about being a master on them, it was about the ability to conjure the right soul, the right integrity for the song. He could, and he did. -d
They were all different in both content and approach. We never paid attention to any trends whatsoever, preferring instead to create the trend. But ones that stood out were Clues, way ahead of its time, Heavy Nova where we were hitting a stride, and then Honey, where we put everything we'd learned to date in one album. Again, glad you guys liked what we did. -d
i hope he has, somewhere, a large collection of unreleased songs to be put out on an album soon. that'd be fantastic. I've only been into robert palmer for a few months but basically have been obsessed with the musical side. The music is not very deep but is extremely personal to whoever listens to it. And i think its amazing someone like you seems to lead a relatively normal life, if thats a good thing or a bad thing you can decide
wow, you've worked with robert palmer??? that is amazing?? where are you from? I am a musician. please look at my channel and check out my death of fishy playlist i'd like a real expert like you to see it. thanks. and rock on.
Excellent! Love the slowed down, sexy take on the song.
Underappreciated and underrated maybe. But according to Wikepidia (which is never wrong) Mr. P left an estate of 30 million pounds. So he wasn't exactly singing for tips.
@downwithdinosaurs Yeah that's probably true. As much as the girls in his videos helped Robert get more notice & gain many more fans, it eventually did more harm than good & started to become all that he was known for. As that sharp dressed middle aged guy surrounded by babes. I enjoyed those videos too but was able to ignore the sex gimmick & delve deeply into his music. Sure glad that i did too. He is far more talented & ecclectic than most people will ever know.
Just a stunning reading of this song, many years ago saw Robert do this song on an Elvis tribute tv show, have searched in vain since for it till now thank ever so much. A great man sadly lost to us now, tread lightly old freind.
One of the best entertainers we had. RIP, Robert!

Unfortunately, I don't want an MP #. I prefer a loss less type file, like AIFF. Is that doable? -d

I know you probably don't think in the same way, but i'd love to either keep knowing you or knowing what your working on a the moment.
Palmer's music touches a lot of people. I have a nephew who is only 11 and in love with his songs.
What was your fav album

YusakuGodai 2 years ago
No, its not on the drive album. This is from the B side of the 12" vinly of MERCY ME ( I want You)
fullmetalenterprise 2 years ago
@YusakuGodai I think the confusion is that this has a *very* similar rhythm to 'Crazy Cajun Cake Walk Band', which is on "Drive".
