you did good :D this is great, I haven't seen Straightheads yet but I'm gonna order it off amazon real soon. I didn't really like the music to this though, I found it very disturbing but then again I think that really fits the subject of the movie, so it's actually kind of perfect.

Yes, I use a mix of sketching pencils and graphite sticks (which are basically pencils without the wood surround)

to StyleSessions-Firstly who gives you the rights to say that copying photos is frowned upon? how would you do a portrait of a baby who cries and wriggles or a dog, now my doggy is good but she couldnt sit through mabe half a days drawing, mabe 2 days drawing mabe more so - what is your preffered art medium or subject?. Secondly if you look at her drawings they are free hand (i hope) so really she is using her eyes no coppying involved. she is merely putting on paper what her eyes are seeing,

ignore all these people sarah -- even though i know nothing whatsoever about art, i know that this is ace. sure you may have copied it, but you added your own distinct mark to this portrait. all the shading is totally amazing. Ignore the know-it-alls, it's a fantabulous piece of work (even moreso because you don't study art!!)!!

By copying photos you are merely copying shapes, you are not internalising form or absorbing any information, you are not seeing the subject in the round. Also photos give much misinformation in blown out values and saturation, not to mention artifacts especially in celebrity shots. Yes people can make careers from the need of constant reference, but does this satisfy your creativity. Need to paint a fantasy scene from your head? I think you would struggle with form, material and lighting.

I refuse to argue with you about my work, I shall merely state that as an artist I know I have the ability to express myself in whatever form, by whatever means, be it in my my head or from a photo, I choose and have proven that.

Thanks for the comment but perhaps it would be safer if you know the facts before making assumptions. I am well regarded within the art community thanks, I am working flat out on commissions and paintings for a couple of galleries. I didn't say I just 'copied' photos (which by the way is not frowned upon, how do you think most portraits are done these days?!) And I do work from 'life' like any artist. For the purposes of youtube I take a celebrity/photo and draw it... whats wrong with that?

Of course! I was rifling thru my Apex Twin collection looking for this song. Moron, apex doesn't scratch! I should have remembered after the thought 'Jurassic 5' popped into my head seconds after the video started. But the way he uses overbeats in this song shoved Apex Twin into my brain.
