I am seriously so fucking tired of coming on videos like these and seeing, "WAH WAH WAH THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN JUSTIN BIEBER AND LIL WAYNE AND POP MUSIC SUCKS AND MODERN MUSIC IS ALL AUTO-TUNE TEENAGERS AND MUSIC INDUSTRY IS SHIT."
Yes, thanks, we get it. I'm 19, I've been listening to classical all my life, sure. Yes, pop music sucks, but so is the sky blue, grass green, and water wet. Thank you for making an observation literally EVERYONE already knows. Now shut the fuck up.
@ShadowFox37 no matter what type of music we listen , it should be good made. I am sure if Mozart was in our Age, he would have been a very talented hip hop musician ! lol ..!!
@amonducius Well you have a choice, you can 1) celebrate TALENT, or 2) celebrate AUTO-TUNING, and teenage hype, corruption in the music industry of the 21st century and meaningless empty lyrics with melodyless badly written songs ... All it takes for bad music to go away is us ignoring it. That's sth you are NOT doing my friend, because you just mentioned the name of a non-artist. Ignore it, behave as if it does not exist, that's how u get rid of it
@sMakeMeGoWoWs In fact, Ashkenazy was a pianist long before he began conducting. He's been playing piano since age 6. There's no fault to be found with this performance; it's graceful, brilliant, and perfectly clear.
At 10:17, does anyone notice that the conductor/pianist is trying to admonish a violin player (my guess is the concertmaster?) Anyone know what he's trying to say? Great performance btw!
Wonderful performance--naturally very well executed, but also tasteful, elegant, sparkling, and at ease. Ashkenazy's hands are so calm, too. A dear friend of mine just performed this last weekend. Interesting to see how different yet how effective a variety of interpretations can be. Lovely.
Hate it just because the piano isn't in it from the beginning, you are listening to the master of all masters, he did it like they used to do, so what? Since this is Mozart, you take what you get and is forever thankful, understand?
@mozzrt This is typical for concertos of this time. The orchestra starts with one theme, and the solo instrument comes in with another, and it's all knit together.
@daytonmlivingston this is just the classical form. It was not until Mendelssohn that this started to change. The orchestra states the themes to come. everything isd formal like their lives were and other arts
Actually, it stems from tradition: Mozart (as well as his predecessors and contemporaries) used to act in the triple capacity of composer, pianist and conductor for his piano concertos. A seperate conducter really only became necessary when the orchestras became larger, the orchestral writing more elaborate, and probably the pianists less capable of doing the job (as they grew more and more narrowly specialistic).
Ah, very interesting! I am going to begin promoting myself as the Trifecta musician to show that even in this horrendous economy you can still save money in the arts!
Except that its been going on for quite a while even when times have been good. Admittedly its not the norm, but it never completely disappeared either. I've only seen it done with performances of Mozart's work (search YT on Mitsuko Uchida - she does the same on another Mozart PC). But I'm sure there are other performances where the soloist doubles as the conductor.
The soloist conducting is Mozart's legacy, which I think is incredible. Also, when he wrote these concertos, he only wrote out the parts for the orchestra and improved the piano part he played. :)
Yes, because squelching someone's opinion is totally aligned with the Enlightenment ideals that Mozart himself championed. I can't believe I'm defending that trash, but he has the right to think whatever he wants about whatever music he wants. Sorry...
oh non parlato italiano per tanti anni, ma io piache tutto italiano, ma mozart e favaloso nella sensa che in 35 anni era una genius con musica, lui scrito musica in molto lingua ect ect musica e solo e buono e la composer ?
gcm33170. Thanks a lot for posting the entire concerto which is I think, not very often performed. Do you happen to know where and when the performance took place?
For the ones who love Ashkenazy, there's a complete and superb Brahms 1 on you tube( conductor is C-M Guilini with the L-A orchestra, from the early 80's.)
Ashkenazy is amazing: Particularly on the first cycle of Beethoven PCs he did with Solti/CSO: How he plays with such ferocity and still retains the musical sensitivity is beyond me.
I don't know about that. We all have our individual favourites , I suppose. Just limiting the subject to best Mozart pianist ever , rather than best all-around pianist , my vote goes for Murray Perahia.
a fine performance of this work by mozart - thanks jf and all the artists
