@silverlage There are better quality versions available just search google for Joe Higgs - There is a reward for me mp3. I did that and found 2 really good versions of this song
Without seeming too ungrateful....but can you allow from some consistency in the volume levels as it does spoil the enjoyment of listening to these great tunes and my neighbours would be a lot more appreciative as well. Other than that....Pure Niceness!!
This performance and song, along with a few things of Edith Piaf and Luca Prodan such as 'Red Lights', 'Brighton Past' or 'Time,Fate Love' have really moved me as an audio-visual spectator
i think this song describes humanity, he sits at a tropic beach on a poor place performing this fantastisc song with only his voice and guitarr. He sings it direct from the heart and it´s not to often you hear that, FANTASTIC
As a Producer/Radio DJ, I've listened to Marley, Tosh and a slew of reggae greats, but none got soul like Joe Higgs. He's truly the Father of Reggae! I'm certainly in awe that he's so little known, which leads me to suspect that maybe the J'can govt and music industry set it this way. BTW, I agree with the previous commentator, this song seem to have been the pattern for Marley's Redemption Song, just listen for yourself. May the true FATHER of the reggae bloodline RIP.
bob learned more than how to sing from this man. a serious vibe flows in his voice , chills i get just listening. brother joe ya works live on. RASTAFARI !!!!
SHAKE A LEG FOR FREEDOM, BROTHER!A true Great, what a huge loss. Rest In Paradise, Joe.Never to be forgotten. Thankyou for the great music.Love, Justice, Freedom. X PEACE
It's no wonder this guy is called the Father of Reggae. This has got to be the "BEST" reggae song I personally have heard. Bob Marley had a lot of songs but Joe Higgs sure had a lot of soul. Love 'em both tho. May they RIP.
Thanks a million for posting. I feel like I can here Bob Marley's voice.
It reminds me a lot of "Redemption Song" and Wyclef Jean's "If I Was President," as well as Hannes Coetzee's "Teaspoon Slide Guitar" video, also here on YouTube.
Jah Higgs..most overlooked man in reggae,he tutoured Bob and The Wailers and stood in on tour. There is a version of this song, which many asked me who it was,on the SEMINAL album'Life Of Contradiction (this was from a film, 'Roots Rock Reggae')The album has just been Rereleased by Pressure Sounds. One of the best black albums ever. Thanks to Noel Hawks who sent many promos and found the vid,PLEASE BUY IT!
