I watched your video on how to trim videos in avidemux ( watch?v=Mi6L1Tev6Vg ) and it all worked fine except for the audio. The audio was going twice as fast as it should be. Have you got any suggestions on how to fix this? It was an .flv file extension and I did try and play it different video player however still had no luck.
In OS X Lion, you can trim videos using the new Quicktime Player 10.1 (no additional software required). I've written a half-page tutorial on how to do so at bryce-thomas.blogspot.com/2011/09/breaking-video-into-multiple-parts-in.html
thanks for the tutorial. I go Avidemux 2.2 rather than what you used. I have Mac OS X and want to split files. I tried it with one of my movie files, but the audio was all messed up (as in it wasn't present). Plus when i opened the file with VLC, the screen was green and blocky. Any suggestions? Thanks again for the posts.
I would say if its not working, maybe try another app, Quicktime 10 has a trim feature, maybe re-encoding is the best option here, if you're having issues.
@phrenchguy02 That's not enough detail for us to know what's wrong. Since there's a word limit on YT, a question as technical as this is best answered in a forum or thru email.
Very helpful tutorial mate as this is the 1st time I have done a split, I just did exactly as you said here and it worked a treat, I wanted 3 and a half mins out of a 2hr movie, I did it in Linux Mint 10, seems to work fine, thumbs up from me & i just subbed :-)
Glad you found the tut easy to follow mate, thats always my aim I guess, thanks for the sub. How you like Linux Mint? my friend is looking to install Linux on his machine again, but doesn't want Ubuntu this time.
@AppScreencast Mint is great, a lot better than just Ubuntu especially for a newbie coming straight from Win or Mac.
Btw, how do I convert an avi file from 4:3 to 16:9 (aspect ratio) using AviDemux??, is there a simple way to do this?, your help would be much appreciated
Not something I have done myself, but this should help hopefully...
to resize or crop the video, choose (from the left sidebar) something other than Copy from the Video drop-down menu, maybe xvid. Then click Filters. Double click on Crop and choose number of pixels to remove, or double click on MPlayer resize and choose pixel height and width (for ratios such as 4:3 or 16:9 remember to click Apply as well).
make sure you have file extension on the end of the file, also try VLC player to play the video file. And make sure you have a good video codec plugin, I use perian.
This seems more like a "crop" than a traditional idea of a "split." I just downloaded avidemux and haven't even begun to use it. I'll see if it would even make sense to split the video. A lot of times a large video clip may have many shots I want to keep. If you follow the above procedure, do you have a way to continue to extract shorter clips from a longer video segment and save them too?
You can take the video and make multiple trims, just move A and B selection tool along the bar, and then save, just repeat that process as many time as you need too.
actually it is normal when played with avidemux but not with VLC, is it the way it is supposed to be? and is there some way to make it normal speed when played with other programs?
try using the latest version of Avidemux to splitt the files, also I'm unsure why VLC player wont play the file correctly, make sure you have the latest version of VLC to, also you could download the perian plug-in, and then try your MKV video in Quicktime.
I dont use MKV files often, so I haven't come cross this problem before.

Every time I've ever used this program it hasn't worked. Either there's something wrong with the video or it just doesn't work after I save it.

You need to set up video and audio decoders and containers.

i've splitted a MKV file like you but with an older version ov avidemux and the result was a video like 2 or 3 times faster than the normal one, why?
dik2604 2 years ago
@dik2604 so get a new one, why the fuck you think they made a new version with bug fixes???

sbhk1 1 year ago
@sbhk1 2 be honest, I didn't try the latest version at all :-P but solved the problem with MKVtoolnix. Try with that, it should work.
