Moonhopper was on the 1985 album. That album had 19, King Tut and Rain Forest. I think the music industry was trying to rush it out instead of milking it. In those days a record or album will have 7 or 8 songs at least 2 would hit the charts. Three of the other tracks would make it to the airwaves. Good music
Takes me back to the days when I would tear up the south circular at 2 am in my Dad's Carlton with the speakers shaking themselves loose. I thought I was invincible. Now I'm 40. Thinning and taking it easy in the Transit.
Geat tune .. Paul Hardcastle sold Hi Fi before he hit the big time ! check out "rainforest" cool track ...was never a hit (well not over in the uk) and one of his first singles
For a 4th grader to be dabbling in such eclectic music I'm inclined to say you're far more keen than most people but the music of that generation was just a cut above the rest compared to the contemporary pablum they call music. Hell we had this kind of music in Saturday morning cartoons!
Wow!godlike!so memorable electronica sounds! ive been looking for this forever!great!it works for imagination and its also quite funky-like sometimes.
@pmsan29 This is how I have always felt when trying to put his music into words. His use of the keyboard truly does make his work sound timeless. You're absolutely correct. :-D
@pmsan29 People dump on the 80's, but technology and musicality fused so beautifully in this era, in a way that still has yet to be matched. Artists like Opolopo, AD Bourke, and Amalia are recovering these threads, but the level of production and musicality needs to catch back up to the technology. Timeless, as you say.
@scientrophic Spot on. It's always been a meme for the trendies to diss anything from the 80's. I could never understand their dislike. Compared to now, those were definitely good times and the music was 500 times better, that's for damn sure.
not true sega genesis had tons of games with real good music. streets of rage 2, sonic 2 - 3 and plenty of games i could name. even nintendo with its 8 bit sound can some bad ass music for some of there games hell platoon for nes was sample by the artist Diplo for the song rhythm
@floresed It actually does sound very similar to some of the music in the early Sega Genesis games. Videogames deserve a little more respect. They go beyond simple stuff like Pacman, know what I mean? Anyway, search for "Yuzo Koshiro Streets of Rage" and check out the "Moon Beach" and "Violent Breathing" tracks. Obviously inspired by artists like Paul Hardcastle. Amazing that this was done on a dinky Sega Genesis.
@floresed Video games are one of the most amazing mediums of digital music, especially synthesized digital music~ with timeless themes. Just because you haven't been exposed to a particular genre, doesn't mean you have the right to insult it. It's LITERALLY born out of complete ignorance.
I don't remember hearing this song. But it has a cool blend of jazz, freestyle and funk. The radio stations didn't pick up on it back in the day. That's usual back then, the radio stations played anything that they felt the people liked. I like that sound.
This is the kind of song you listen to on the drive home or on the way home from a long hard day...very relaxing yet upbeat. I remember this song from 1986...thanks for posting!!!
I honestly believe the soundtrack to the original StarFox game on SNES was inspired by Paul Hardcastle... seriously, anyone remember those jams? They're honestly just as soulful as PH's grooves albeit being 'video game music'. DIG IT!
Yeah!,"Although" its not that they were inspired by Paul Hardcastle, its just that they used the same music genre i guess... but also one game that came to mine in the SNES days that had a simular sound like this was Super Mario Kart, and the stage i heard it on was called Rainbow Road, remember that!
Now I'm getting all nostalgic thinking about all this. They don't make games that go with the soundtracks like this anymore, and that's a shame... but whatever the case is-- Hardcastle set the standard for some good jazz funk, yes sir he did!
"I know!"Like remember Sonic 3 for Sega Genesis, it is a stage on there call Hydrocity Act 1. That had a sound like it as well, "But I feel you", it is really to bad that they dont make music that goes with games anymore, the 2000s are just crap!

The first 44 seconds reminds me of the original F-Zero music. (I suppose it would be the other way around).
The catch in F-Zero "Silence" is almost the same as the part that kicks in at 0:27

I often imagine if this is what aliens jam too in outer space.
Its what 20 years old now, but the way that hardcastle uses synths is so genius and that quality makes his music truly timeless.
Nothing out today can touch the beauty of this music.
