A few years ago I bought a Saturn Vue. It has been the typical American lemon car. Such a car could only be produced by people who take no pride in their work, have no idea how to engineer, have no clue when it comes to administration, use shabby parts, are unskilled/uneducated, don't practice quality control, needlessly rush production, have no loyalty to customers & show up to work on drugs. In other words, it was produced by typical American management & labor.
@DJFG85 Holden is a car company in Australia and New Zealand who are with GM. Holden produce a lot of GM designs and also produce some of the most reliable mid sized cars in the world.
Apart from that I think Ford and European as well.
The problem with society today is this. American people are so concerned with cosmetics and newly designed automobiles they want to build 27 different engines for 20 automobiles in their line up. We do not need 20 types of models. It just complicates things at the assembly plant. It may even require an extra assembly plant. Having to build 27 engines is also balogny. All a company need is 12 models with 12 engines. Why are we complicating life with material things?

GM filing for bankruptcy allowed them to get out from under the archaic entitlement system with the UAW that made it impossible for them to turn a profit in North America. They will be a better company operating smaller, but concentrating more on quality rather than numbers. As far as Toyota goes, they are following the old GM's blueprint, and look where it's getting them.

The two highest recommended comments are from people who have no clue or knowledge (one says Lacrosse is built in Canada when everyone knows it is built in Kansas City!) I always had GM cars and they all had over 150k with no problems.

After bankruptcy, restructuring, and a FORTY BILLION DOLLAR bailout (not to mention a messy series of recalls from their main competition), they managed to gain (*drumroll*) a less than 2% increase. Only after fuel shot to over $4 a gallon did they realize that it made sense to produce cars that weren't SUVs the size of semis. Thank god they finally managed to produce some decent cars so there is actual competition in the market now.

GM is awesome. they make record breaking sports cars like the zr1 that beats ferraris 3x more expensive. they make luxurious cadillacs at a fraction of foreign prices. they make compact cars like my sunfire that are in fact more reliable than any honda or toyota. my car survived 13 years of small city driving and it works like new. my cousins civic died in less than 5 years of big city driving. my bros tercel is leaking all possible types of fluid after only 11 years. i have many other examples.
@jipi0001 The ZR1 doesn't hold any records, it has a pathetic top speed for a car with as much power as it has, one Ferrari is easily faster, two others are just as fast and there are more than a handful of European cars that will hand the ZR1 its own ass in acceleration, top speed and track performance.
Also, GM does not make more reliable cars than Honda or Toyota, that's why GM is ALWAYS below them on the IQS list. GM vehicles also REALLY shitty resale value, guess why.
@idontcare80 the zr1 has the best nurburgring time for its class. the only 2 european cars i can think of that beat it are the ferrari enzo and fxx, which both cost over 1 million $. the 599 is the main competitor to the zr1. its costs over 300000$, has the same top speed, slower acceleration, probably less handling (its 500 lbs heavier).
what makes you say that GM is not as reliable as honda or toyota? hondas are not nearly as reliable as toyotas which maintenance is more frequent than GM...
@jipi0001 The Gumpert Apollo Speed, Porsche 911 GT2 RS, Maserati MC12, Pagani Zonda F and the Ferrari Enzo are all faster around the 'Ring, the FXX is not a road car.
Honda and Toyota are always trading spots near the top of the reliability lists, GM is usually near the middle. GM also has huge safety problems (like fires and loss of control issues) that are never really even reported on the news. GM cars don't even come close to the reliability of Hondas and Toyotas.

toyotas arent that reliable. my moms camry had over 2000$ of maintenance this year due to bad brakes, exhaust line, muffler, oil pan, etc and last time i checked theres still some leakin fluids. my bros tercel is even worse. other cars: 2009 camry gets -20mpg 09 corolla wont start..
@jipi0001 Yeah well, my grandparents have owned a couple Toyotas and they never had problems with either of them. One went 25 years and almost 300,000 miles before they sold it, it was still in great shape when they sold it. The second one is much newer (04 I think), has less than 100,000 on it and hasn't given them any problem. There are also 5 Hondas in my family right now, none of those have ever had problems. GM also has plenty of brake recalls BTW.
Consumer Reports has their annual automobile issue and I suggest any of you that have stupid, preconceived notions should look through it; it's pretty dead-honest especially about reliability, cost and value.

The V6 model is 28 MPG, not bad for 300 HP. If these losers would get off all this BS go green crap, enviroment this, screw it, global warming is load of crap, we'd see Muscle Cars rise again. You can complain about Japanese cars all you want, but the fact remains that they have the reliability, and by the way, the quality of Japanese brands MADE IN THE USA are just as good as those assembled in Japan.

If you want to call Bad Reliability going over 200-300k miles with basic service (brakes, oil, etc) unreliable then oh well. By the way Toyota has a major software problem with the acceleration, one of the largest recalls in the history of cars. Reliable alright.
@Jared1970Monte I cannot argue with your experience; I had a 1985 Lincoln Town Car that got 435,000 in ten years being used as a virtual taxicab here in New York City; I also know that a 1985 Cadillac couldn't go over 140,000 in the same service which is why half of all the Caddy dealers closed between 1981 and 2000.
As a child growing up, we ONLY had GM cars but I just wouldn't buy one now.
Actually, in the early '70s GM recalled 6.7 million cars for problems with unintended acceleration, that's more than double the Toyota recall.
More recently GM has had serious problems with fires, loss of control because of steering columns coming apart, loss of control because of tie rods coming apart, loss of control because of drive wheels locking up, and plenty of recalls for brake issues. GM makes junk, they have since the late '70s.
@SatchmoSings I have own a few Japanese cars and have had nothing but problems with them. 2 Mitubishis and one Nissan. MY parents have a Kia(I know its not Japanese) and they have nothing but problems. They also own a Chevy Scottsdale halfton diesel and its very dependable and its a 1982 model. I own a 03 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 130800 miles and it has plenty more to go. So no, the Japs cars are not that dependable. Some are, some arent. Just like the American cars, Some are, some arent.

I am a big fan of Consumers Reports magazine and I have their most recent car issue and, after testing just about EVERY car out there, they do tend to agree with me.
@tripovermyego Most Mitsubishis that were sold in the states were built by Chrysler. Kias are junk, always have been, probably always will be. Nissans are probably about as reliable as American vehicles. GM trucks are usually pretty good, their cars are a whole other story. Statistics show that Japanese vehicles are more reliable than American vehicles, so do the resale values. Also, I've had two Civics with more than 240,000 miles and one with over 312,000, never had a problem at all.
@idontcare80 Actually, Mitsubishi Motors built engines and the underside of alot of Chrysler products. For instance, Mitsubishi 3000GT and Dodge Stealth same car built by Mitsubishi. Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger R/T and Mitsubishi Eclipse, same underneath, built by Mitsubishi. Hell, even the Dodge Caravans in the late 80s and early 90s had Mitsubishi engines. And in your mind, the japs cars are great. In my mind, american cars are great. Ill never own another jap or chinese car again!!
@tripovermyego Nope, other way around. Mitsubishis were built in Chrysler plants. The Eclipse, for example, used the same Chrysler engine that was was designed for the Neon. The engine castings in Mitsubishis even have Chrysler symbols cast into them. You can't buy Chinese cars in the US BTW.
@idontcare80 Sorry, at the start of the DSM program some Mitsubishis were rebadged as Chrysler brands. In 1990 Chrysler started building Mitsubishi products in the US.
@idontcare80 Thats a negative ghost rider. My neighbor has a Chrysler Sebring coupe. Its the 3.0V6 with an automatic transmission. The outside says Chrysler but the motor and everything inside (minus the Chrysler stamp on the steering wheel) is all Mitsubishi. The engine block is stamped Mitsubishi. Her dash board and seats and hell even the rear roof line is exactly the same as what my 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse had and its all built by Mitsubishi.
@tripovermyego Yeah, Chrysler and Mitsubishi did share engines here and there, but the vast majority of the car was built in the US, then everything was assembled in the US. Building cars in Japan to sell here just doesn't make sense unless it's a high end vehicle, it costs quite a bit more.

@wodanowitz, I don't find Pontiac& Oldsmobile compares in anyway to Saturn 'cause Oldsmobile goes back probably before your time & mine to almost 100 years & sold just fine, the same can be said for Pontiac, but there came a time when Oldsmobile- Pontiac didn't offer anything special or different than the other divisions did, the newer generations didn't find it cool to be driving a car named OLD-AUTOMOBILE. Of course as usual these cars were plagued with reliability and build quality problems

The another reason that GM should get rid off because there getting very expensive, for example, Chevy Suburban starts at $40,000 to $55,000, Corvetts, $48,000 to $116,000 and Silverado $20,800 to $47,000, they are overpriced, because 10 years ago, they were $10,000 to $15,000 cheaper but now there totally expensive.

The automobile and GM was started in Oshawa, Canada and not in Detroit, USA. It was started in 1902 but did not merge into the US until 1908 with help from William Durrant. All info is correct except William Durrant did not invent GM!

The problem with society today is this. American people are so concerned with cosmetics and newly designed automobiles they want to build 27 different engines for 20 automobiles in their line up. We do not need 20 types of models. It just complicates things at the assembly plant. It may even require an extra assembly plant. Having to build 27 engines is also balogny. All a company need is 12 models with 12 engines. Why are we complicating life with material things?

GM filing for bankruptcy allowed them to get out from under the archaic entitlement system with the UAW that made it impossible for them to turn a profit in North America. They will be a better company operating smaller, but concentrating more on quality rather than numbers. As far as Toyota goes, they are following the old GM's blueprint, and look where it's getting them.

That's why they bailed it out, not because they want to run every business. Turn off Fox news and use your own brain. It's not really that difficult. Give me a break.. GM is making cars that are better than almost any other manufacturer. Read the latest news on Toyota and Honda being the only major automakers losing market share in the US this year in the Wall Street Journal. The two highest recommended comments are from people who have no clue or knowledge (one says Lacrosse is built in Canada when everyone knows it is built in Kansas City!) I always had GM cars and they all had over 150k with no problems.

The top runner is Porsche and Ferrari. American classics still run because they are completely overhauled. Any car would run if fixed the same way.

After bankruptcy, restructuring, and a FORTY BILLION DOLLAR bailout (not to mention a messy series of recalls from their main competition), they managed to gain (*drumroll*) a less than 2% increase. Only after fuel shot to over $4 a gallon did they realize that it made sense to produce cars that weren't SUVs the size of semis. Thank god they finally managed to produce some decent cars so there is actual competition in the market now.

GM is awesome. they make record breaking sports cars like the zr1 that beats ferraris 3x more expensive. they make luxurious cadillacs at a fraction of foreign prices. they make compact cars like my sunfire that are in fact more reliable than any honda or toyota. my car survived 13 years of small city driving and it works like new. my cousins civic died in less than 5 years of big city driving. my bros tercel is leaking all possible types of fluid after only 11 years. i have many other examples.

@jipi0001 The ZR1 doesn't hold any records, it has a pathetic top speed for a car with as much power as it has, one Ferrari is easily faster, two others are just as fast and there are more than a handful of European cars that will hand the ZR1 its own ass in acceleration, top speed and track performance.
Also, GM does not make more reliable cars than Honda or Toyota, that's why GM is ALWAYS below them on the IQS list. GM vehicles also REALLY shitty resale value, guess why.

@idontcare80 the zr1 has the best nurburgring time for its class. the only 2 european cars i can think of that beat it are the ferrari enzo and fxx, which both cost over 1 million $. the 599 is the main competitor to the zr1. its costs over 300000$, has the same top speed, slower acceleration, probably less handling (its 500 lbs heavier).
what makes you say that GM is not as reliable as honda or toyota? hondas are not nearly as reliable as toyotas which maintenance is more frequent than GM...

@jipi0001 The Gumpert Apollo Speed, Porsche 911 GT2 RS, Maserati MC12, Pagani Zonda F and the Ferrari Enzo are all faster around the 'Ring, the FXX is not a road car.
Honda and Toyota are always trading spots near the top of the reliability lists, GM is usually near the middle. GM also has huge safety problems (like fires and loss of control issues) that are never really even reported on the news. GM cars don't even come close to the reliability of Hondas and Toyotas.

@jipi0001 Yeah well, my grandparents have owned a couple Toyotas and they never had problems with either of them. One went 25 years and almost 300,000 miles before they sold it, it was still in great shape when they sold it. The second one is much newer (04 I think), has less than 100,000 on it and hasn't given them any problem. There are also 5 Hondas in my family right now, none of those have ever had problems. GM also has plenty of brake recalls BTW.

Chevrolet and GM made there mark by building performance cars. They will rise to the top doing that same thing once again, People want Muscle Cars, and the 426 HP Camaro is capable of over 20 MPG on the highway, kind of the best of both worlds. The V6 model is 28 MPG, not bad for 300 HP. If these losers would get off all this BS go green crap, enviroment this, screw it, global warming is load of crap, we'd see Muscle Cars rise again. If you want to call Bad Reliability going over 200-300k miles with basic service (brakes, oil, etc) unreliable then oh well. By the way Toyota has a major software problem with the acceleration, one of the largest recalls in the history of cars. Reliable alright.

@Jared1970Monte I cannot argue with your experience; I had a 1985 Lincoln Town Car that got 435,000 in ten years being used as a virtual taxicab here in New York City; I also know that a 1985 Cadillac couldn't go over 140,000 in the same service which is why half of all the Caddy dealers closed between 1981 and 2000.
As a child growing up, we ONLY had GM cars but I just wouldn't buy one now.

Actually, in the early '70s GM recalled 6.7 million cars for problems with unintended acceleration, that's more than double the Toyota recall.
More recently GM has had serious problems with fires, loss of control because of steering columns coming apart, loss of control because of tie rods coming apart, loss of control because of drive wheels locking up, and plenty of recalls for brake issues. GM makes junk, they have since the late '70s.

MY parents have a Kia(I know its not Japanese) and they have nothing but problems. They also own a Chevy Scottsdale halfton diesel and its very dependable and its a 1982 model. I own a 03 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 130800 miles and it has plenty more to go. So no, the Japs cars are not that dependable. Some are, some arent. Just like the American cars, Some are, some arent.

@tripovermyego Most Mitsubishis that were sold in the states were built by Chrysler. Kias are junk, always have been, probably always will be. Nissans are probably about as reliable as American vehicles. GM trucks are usually pretty good, their cars are a whole other story. Statistics show that Japanese vehicles are more reliable than American vehicles, so do the resale values. Also, I've had two Civics with more than 240,000 miles and one with over 312,000, never had a problem at all.

@idontcare80 Actually, Mitsubishi Motors built engines and the underside of alot of Chrysler products. For instance, Mitsubishi 3000GT and Dodge Stealth same car built by Mitsubishi. Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger R/T and Mitsubishi Eclipse, same underneath, built by Mitsubishi. Hell, even the Dodge Caravans in the late 80s and early 90s had Mitsubishi engines. And in your mind, the japs cars are great. In my mind, american cars are great. Ill never own another jap or chinese car again!!

@tripovermyego Nope, other way around. Mitsubishis were built in Chrysler plants. The Eclipse, for example, used the same Chrysler engine that was was designed for the Neon. The engine castings in Mitsubishis even have Chrysler symbols cast into them. You can't buy Chinese cars in the US BTW.

The outside says Chrysler but the motor and everything inside (minus the Chrysler stamp on the steering wheel) is all Mitsubishi. The engine block is stamped Mitsubishi. Her dash board and seats and hell even the rear roof line is exactly the same as what my 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse had and its all built by Mitsubishi.

Cars need identity.... in styling. You should be able to recognize a Firebird, Mustang, Challenger or Camaro at first look and at distance. GM made to much mistakes.

@wodanowitz, I don't find Pontiac& Oldsmobile compares in anyway to Saturn 'cause Oldsmobile goes back probably before your time & mine to almost 100 years & sold just fine, the same can be said for Pontiac, but there came a time when Oldsmobile- Pontiac didn't offer anything special or different than the other divisions did, the newer generations didn't find it cool to be driving a car named OLD-AUTOMOBILE. Of course as usual these cars were plagued with reliability and build quality problems

The another reason that GM should get rid off because there getting very expensive, for example, Chevy Suburban starts at $40,000 to $55,000, Corvetts, $48,000 to $116,000 and Silverado $20,800 to $47,000, they are overpriced, because 10 years ago, they were $10,000 to $15,000 cheaper but now there totally expensive.

Mr Allister. you preach the sermon about Gm pulling the EV program, but youmust've failed to watch the rest of the movie. ALL THE AUTOMAKERS pulled the ev program. GM could not build these cars to be affordable. And guess what.... who wants a car that can only go 60 miles on a charge? I don't and the last time I checked ther wasn't an infrastructure to support these cars anywher but California? Government, big oil, and the American public killed the EV program. GM never sold Ev's they leased em.

They took back every single ev car that they made and wasted billions of dollars on making a car that they refused to sale. Im sorry but I have to say this to you. Just because there were a few hundred idiots in California who wanted them in the 90's doesn't mean that the car was economically feasible. The EV was too small and expensive, Tahoe's and Suburbans were cheap and so was gasoline. Don't blame GM they made the right decision business wise. Suzie soccer mom just wasn't ready to trade in the Suburban for the EV1. Give them some credit for building it in the first place.

The automobile and GM was started in Oshawa, Canada and not in Detroit, USA. It was started in 1902 but did not merge into the US until 1908 with help from William Durrant. All info is correct except William Durrant did not invent GM!
