  • by any chance could you tell me where you found the notes/tabs? thanks!

  • @dognaper321 The tabs are in the virtuoso guitar book he produced, i dont think they're anywhere else but its worth a try searching :)

  • i like your style a lot, you were once my favorite youtube star but things change. actually i change favorites all the time so dont feel bad because you are my favorite today but not tomorrow. youre the shit, make originals, and right on.

  • do you learn this stuff from sheet music or what?

  • Caleb your father is very proud of you and your sisters and can't wait to see ya'll play in person as well!

  • iandrewry:

Though I can't speak for him, I'm sure that the young man in this video appreciates your kind thoughts. However, if you check his site, you'll find that his name is Phil Whybra. The name of the song is 'Caleb's Report', and the composer is a guitarist named Doyle Dykes.

I'm guessing, but I'll wager that the title is taken from the Old Testament account of two scouts--Caleb and Joshua--who brought back favorable reports of the Promised Land.

  • amazing!! great job man

  • Outstanding! Your guitar sound really good too! What kind of guitar is it? Thanks for posting! -Derek

  • AnchoriteProductions: The guitar is a Taylor T-5 custom.

  • Thanks for the info! Would love to play one sometime. -Derek

  • AnchoriteProductions:

I took the liberty of listening to some of your videos, and I greatly admire your work.

I also think that it is admirable for you to take the time and effort to encourage young people, like Phil Whybra in this video, who take good music seriously. May God bless him.

If you get a chance, Derek, I highly recommend to you two other youths: Luc Schouten (amigomusica)from the Netherlands, and Sungha Jung (jwcfree)from South Korea.

Tomorrow's music is in secure hands.

  • I once heard Chet Atkins say; "If you thought you heard a little mistake in there, you did! I put it there for my critic's!" :c)

    Awesome performance, again! 5+ Star's!

Very best wishes for health and happiness!

    GinMillBill

  • Nice! Sounds Good.

  • Thank you foxygrandpa6.

Four years and already this good.....I am impressed.

  • you are awsome for your age!! one day you will probably be better then Doyle Dykes!!

  • Phil......what I would like to know, is when you´ve started playing.

And are you just that talented or did you actually had to play bloody much to get this good?

How good were after playing for two years?

  • hellredfight: I don't know Phil---I don't even live in England---and I know nothing more about him beyond what has been revealed in the posted comments with his 8 videos (he has promised more). But based on the information available to everyone, he has been playing for perhaps 4 years, or less (he's 16). His oldest videos are about 2 years old, or less.

Obviously he is extremely talented. And he must love what he is doing. But nothing worthwhile comes without a helluva lot of hard work.

  • Wonderful tone and playing

  • Welcome to my favorites, extremely well played, amazing!

  • Hay dude, me and my girlfriend sat next to you in tommyfest last year, on the last day, what a beautiful song and you play it perfectly! please NEVER stop playing, your gonna go a long way.. respect

  • Great video☆! Well done☆! Outstanding☆! Cool☆! ☆☆☆☆☆♣♣♣♣♣ 5 Paws Up ♣♣♣♣♣☆☆☆☆☆

  • Your musical future is assured, my man! Beautiful! :) Jack

  • raconter1: Obviously Phil has worked, diligently and intelligently, over a long period in order to achieve his standard of excellence. To the extent that he applies that same standard to all of his goals, his life will be one of success and happiness. I wish him the best.

  • nice playing! great job!

  • Oh, my! That's some really beautiful visuals you have going there! (I 'see' music.) Lovely, rolling green hills with a lot of flowers. Keep playing! You have real talent!!

  • that was awesome. 5 stars

  • That guitar sounds NOTHING like mine, but still sounds amazing. I love the varities of sounds you can get from different guitar makes.

    Excellent work!

  • Sounds great, if you want a "live" sound pinting a condenser mic at the fret board to catch the sound of your fingers sliding helps add the presence that acoustic pick-ups lack. Or try using your video editor to blend the room audio with the pick-up feed. That yields a more natural ambient room reverb.

  • Lovely. Just beautiful!

  • Wonderful, just wonderful, keep playing and you'll be among the best.

  • man.. beautiful tone. your playing doesn't disappoint either, great job.

  • HI, Pkw101, who ever and where ever you are, you are good. I like your sound, your swing, your attitude. you know how to work. apparantly you have a good ear. all the best.

  • Make your git sound like a harp and a banjo like Doyle Dykes and git yerself into da hall of fame!

  • One day @ a time. One song @ a time. One vid @ a time. Love em all!!! Keep em coming! Ignore anyone that says negative crap unless they offer constructive criticism that makes sense along with praise for your hard work because you obviously put time in on that axe!!! Nice chiming harmonic work with alternate bass string picking. I would really like to see you show some tapping technique as I am sure you have that skill to be developed and showcased.

  • aint he just great! I really wish eric roche was still alive so I could show eric his wonderful talent! I never understand people that give awful and negative feedback on such great artists. But there will always be haters I guess.

  • Hello, 'effects69': I have loved fingerstyle guitar ever since discovering Chet Atkins when I was a boy. Phil Whybra is one of the best I've seen, and he represents the future.

Haters? I've been told that anyone who demonstrates success in his life attracts jealousy and hatred. Apparently it is one of the flaws of humanity. I am thankful that Phil evidently has not allowed this to discourage him.

  • Dude I love it. You can really play...and nice guitar

  • Phil,

    Just wonderful. Nice guitar, too.

    jeff

  • I have noticed that all of your videos -- even the oldest ones ('The Entertainer', now almost a year and a half old)still draw a lot of viewers; people write praises almost every day. And your newest one is incredible.

I have no doubt that your life is full.

But, I hope you can find time to send us another video or two sometime soon. Your music, and your talent for presenting it, are downright addictive, and I'll bet I'm not the only one experiencing withdrawal pains.

  • Hey!

I Have got alot of stuff planned this year, My main aims is to getr more videos and stuff up!

I Will be aiming to post one about every 2 weeks so there should be 26 new ones this year!

Unfortunately i have January exams (I have one tomorrow :( that are very important till the 15th, but straight after expect a video!

Its incredible how many comments I get! I love reading every single one.

Take care and have a good 2008

    Phil

  • Phil: Thank you for your beautiful reply.

    Happy New Year.

  • Dude, you are amazing. keep it up!

  • Wow! You do pretty well! I saw Doyle Dykes perform at a music store once when I was younger, and I've listened to his music ever since. You've got a few flaws, but other than that, pretty good. Keep up the great work! Mel

  • Hi Phil, can't remember if I already commented on this one via youtube, but I keep listening to this one, it's beautiful. I actually like it more than Doyles version on my cd! Keep on playing! xxx Inge

  • I'll follow your career. It will be good.

  • very nice!Congrats!

  • Bravo! Very good!

  • Fantastic!

  • wonderfull job.

  • Way to go Phillip! I've been tracking your progress through your video's like everyone else. You T5 has great tone and your playing is awesome as usual.Keep on pickin my friend. Your the best...Steve

  • Very great job, thank you for sharing your music - I totally enjoy it.

  • Nicely done

  • you're amazing...

  • How many guitars do you have man? wow. I count 4. An unknown to me acoustic, a Taylor DDAE, a Maton, now a Taylor T5. Nice collection. I have a 314 and a T5 koa. Love the T5. Awesome playing again as usual. We both love the same two guitarists, Tommy and Doyle.

  • Hello, Taylor: The 'unknown acoustic' is a moderately priced Fender, and is used in Phil's 'Angelina,' 'Self Portrait,' and 'Entertainer' videos.

Phil's superb collection of guitars is a perfect example of the fruits of hard work, dedication, and uncompromising standards. Sponsors have been so impressed with his recordings that they have presented him with some of the best guitars that money can buy. They know a winner when they see one.

  • Excellent video Phil :P You do realise once I take a week or two to learn the Bare Necessities that I'll be coming probably give some of your songs on this a bash then run away from my guitar crying (again) :P

    Keep it up :)

    Andy

  • fantastic!

  • Help,I can't stop listening to this tune, 10th time today I guess :D

Like the sound of the guitar too.

Great performance, keep it up! ;)

  • Phil youve played this song in front of me for quite a while now. Im glad i can finally listen to it on demand :). cya tommorow at ryans.

  • you are really progressing boy... really... nice guitar by the way and remember my angelina 2.0 version request

  • Hello Pkw101,

do you learn all this by yourself or do you have a teacher?

    You really are progressing :-)

    Keep on playing.

    lfrc2006

  • Phil. I will get around to starting the stalker channel. Soon.

  • There is real class with your playing. You really should be on the stage as the support act- or guest player at least, for Tommy Emmanuel's next UK tour.

  • I agree 100%.

  • dont harass people

  • he has already... long ago... he has been on stage with tommy, not touring, but as a guest.

  • I have never played on stage with Tommy! I have Played to him back stage though, was rather awesome!

  • Just saw Doyle in Toronto Nov. 16th, and of course he was great. I have his recording of this song, and you play it superbly. I know he would be very pleased to hear your version of it. Keep the videos coming, please!

    Dave

  • Good job, Phil! Nice T5 by the way!

  • great playing - awesome really :)

    I love it

  • Hi Phil! This is simply beautiful! xxx inkie

  • Dude you are awesome! how old are you? on some videos you seem like just 10 years old or something, and that is what freaks me out! love it ;)

  • Phil was 15 years old when he made his first videos, with the large Fender guitar. His more recent videos (2 with a Maton, one with a Taylor DDAE and this latest one with a Taylor T-5 Custom) were made after he turned 16. I'm not sure when his birthday is.

Regardless of his age, he has apparently been playing for only about 3 or 4 years. His accomplishments are so impressive that people halfway around the world have been moved to sponser him, and he has proven himself a thousandfold.

  • dont pedophile on my friend please

  • Mr. Morrison: I received an e-mail from YouTube indicating that your comment was a reply to me. Since the manner in which these comments are arranged leads me to believe that you were addressing 'Luddek',and since he has received several other posts similar to yours, I shall assume that YouTube was mistaken.

  • na its was indicated at you, another dude was pedophiling my other friend 'perrinator3000', you seem to know too much. :l

  • Sir: Your despicable and shameful accusations are slanderous and unworthy of further reply. You have pulled this train of comments on PKW's beautiful music down into the sewer with you, while flattering yourself by referring to him as your 'friend.'

  • I am confident that most of PKW's supporters will see that I have praised and encouraged him at every turn, and have only tried to be helpful to inquirers by providing simple facts that are readily available to anyone. As far as I am concerned, this thread is at an end.

  • hahahahahahahhaah

  • Actually this guy is my friend from college, i think he was jokingly saying you know lots about me! But the jokes gone to far

Dont take him to seriously, and it is useful that you can answer those questions that seemed to get asked alot! Thank you

and as a side note, he is about 100 times better than me at guitar.

  • oh phil, you tease lol. i dont think ive said this video is sweet yet, so sweeeeet

  • Phil: Thank you very much for interceding. While I do not apologize for defending my honor, I regret that it was necessary to create a thread that is so far beneath the standard that you have achieved. It should not have been necessary for you to referee a quarrel.
