  • You have not heard of pinch harmonics? Weird.

  • Another guitarist GREAT at pinch harmonics like zakk is ACE frehley! both kinda power blues hard rock not speed metal at all!

  • 3rd or 5th fret on low e string (tuned down on his guitar to like b or c or d he changes alot

  • he plays it on the 5th string third fret

  • whistle. whistle called the ropes., and is easy to do. scratching the string with the pick.

  • I can't believe these comments

zakk has a pedal made for this trash , it gets real anoying.

I'm not supposed to be talkin shit about zakk because he's my damn family but sometimes I just wanna knock that booze out of his hand and explain to him that this is not packman.

  • @azkeyz your a liar in more ways then one, if you were his family youd know hes been sober for a while now, and the pedal your talking bout would that be his overdrive or wah ? its his high out put that makes it all easier either way there not "made" for that they help out for sure but his humbuckers strings and picking style have way more to do with it than anything else...

  • @azkeyz You're so full of shit you need your own plumbing. You're not related to Zakk. The pedal is called an Overdrive and believe you me, you can't get those pinch harmonics from just that. It's his technique. You fuckin poser.

  • Pinch harmonic like he does 8 trillion times in every song

  • nice pose Zakk, that pose says look at my big penis lol

  • its a pinch harmonic pal, hard to explain how you actually get the sound but basically it involves your thumb hitting the string one you have plucked it with a pinch sort of feel (use the side of your pleck)but yeah i did mine by accident one time and thought THE FUCK WAS THAT NOISE?! eargasmic im telling you! :P he uses the bottom E string to get this certain pinch sound, i do it on the 3rd fret, so just keep practising buddy you'l get it! it took me a good 2 days to get it 'okay'. ROCK ON DUDE

  • He probably uses a fucking whammy bar!

  • This isn't something you make a YouTube video of and post, this belongs in Yahoo Answers or some shit

  • Very easy to do. Practice bro.

  • pinch harm bro. thumb and pick at the same time.find the sweet spot (usually an octave from the fretted note.)

  • and new strings make a big difference

  • harmonics whith ur thum not rocket science but hes good

  • Yes pinch harmonics or the other trick I dare not mention muhahahahaha

  • Worst Guitar player on the planet in my opinion. Who the hell sequels their guitar every verse? Zack! why? cause that's all he can do. Randy Roads and Jacky Lee were much better.

  • @lschlutt73 its jake e lee dude not jacky lee for fucks sake get it right

  • @lschlutt73 - "Jacky Lee" ? That alone., along with your statement about Zakk proves youre not a musician., and are fucking CLUELESS when it comes to music., and guitar players... PS. Its Randy RHoads and Jake E. Lee., you fucking illiterate Fucktard... Your opinion in this matter = SHIT...

  • @lschlutt73

Worst guitar player on the planet? Worse than you cocknugget? Who the hell calls an artificial harmonic a "sequel"? A sequel is Empire Strikes Back, Die Hard 2, Predator 2, NOT A FUCKING GUITAR TECHNIQUE GENIUS.

  • @TheMetalWeasel Cocknugget?! Lol

  • lol

  • this might show my age a lil,but EDDIE VAN HALEN was doing this in the late 70's -early 80's....so it was one of the 1st things i tried to do on guitar!!i can make pinch, artificial and harp harmonics all over the guitar!!and ,if you have your pick technique down, you dont even have to fret a note at all....(aka dimebag, satriani, van halen) so keep at it!!!and it will come to you.

  • @bitches762 Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top was doing it even before Eddie! Classical guitarist have been doing it for a long time. It of course took on a new life when Eddie Started doing it. I think Zakk really put his own brand on it though, no one does like him. I remember the first time I heard the no more tears record, I was tripping on the pinch Harmonics! They sounded so different than anyone else.

  • It's a pinch harmonic. And he hits it on the 5th fret of his A string. You get the sound by attacking the string, but then slightly brushing either the left side of your thumb ( if you play right handed, and vice versa) or the way he does it, by using his index finger. I've only been able to use the index finger a couple of times. He has a unique way of picking, so it's up to the player. Hope that helps and good luck!

  • @shredskeez LOL, yea I guess your right. My momma told me that if I have nothing good to say, then I shouldn't say anything at all... that was of course, before youtube ;-)

  • That pick slicing bullshit sound is exactly why I can't stand his music. Like nails on a chalkboard

  • needs more pinch harmonic

  • its a note of the 6th fret but bent from the third im pretty sure, with some tight vibrato type shit.also there are many notes in that little area where you pick.and you can also ..fuck it i aint writin no more.

  • I think the record is stuck

  • Dumbass

  • XD

  • I believe they cover this in maybe the 2nd day of Metal Guitar 101.

  • DUHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! YOU IDIOT!!!!!!

  • lol

  • Man you're fucking retarded.

  • @MyMetalSkate he plays it on the 3rd fret its a note with harmonics hit the note with your finger bareley on the string the bend

  • fucken retarted youtubers. dam noobs

  • having convulsions!!!....gonna freak out!!!

  • its a pinch harmonic bro. just LIGHTLY drag your thumb against the string while you pick.

  • im a drummer, i wouldn't know :( sorry dude

  • That low whistle-type sound you are referring to can be achieved by hitting almost any one of the lower (fretted) strings. The technique comes from mainly the way it is plucked. You've just got to strike the pick down on an angle towards like 2:00 o'clock looking down, or 5:00 o'clock looking upside down (using the volume or tone knob as the clock) as you simultaneously bend the string with your left hand with a jerk. You really don't need any effects to do this, just practice the technique.

  • pinch harmonics,I bump my thumb of my picking hand on the string as i pluck it

  • metal is gay

  • @cheapcape your gay >:(

  • @cheapcape ur gay!

  • Zakk had this guitar down tuned to drop C. The pinch harmonic is being played on the 3rd fret. Zakk also employs his wah pedal on most of these, to give it a little more bite. Zakk uses his wah pedal for bends and pinch harmonics. If you're having trouble with the harmonics, try turning your gain up just a bit. If you cannot get the harmonics easily, they will not sound right when you add the wah pedal.

  • hey dude...everyone else is nailing it telling u about pinch harmonics-he also uses jumbo fretwire & uses the new MXR Black Label Chorus pedal that came out last year...don't know if he kicks it on 4 this, but that is how u get that "wavy" sound-check out his G.W. VIDEO about his latest gear...it's on my channel-very informative!...Kevin H.-BLS-VIRGINIA & CALIFORNIA CHAPTERS

  • Pinch Harmonic with a wide vibrato on it, done by just barely touching the string with the side of your thumb directly after attacking the note, it stops the note from ringing out properly and just gives you the harmonic overtones. Where you touch the string with your thumb will also change the sound of the harmonic.

  • pinched/split harmonics man, for some its incrediably difficult, but i use my thumb, as do most people, some use both hands which is a pain in the ass

  • Comment removed

  • the .5th fret WHAT?

  • its called a pinch harmonic...its hard to learn but wen u learn it its really fun.

  • I find it helps to use the bridge pickup, turn the tone knob up (can be done without but I'd suggest doing it the easy way first). When I teach pinch harmonics (at least my method) I have the kids (or adults) play the note normally -- then I have them rest their thumb on the string below (hit the 3rd fret 6th string G...and using the side of your thumb to touch the 6th, rest your thumb on the 5th afterwards). Once you get used to the feeling, you can do it anywhere. 5,7,12 - the magic frets

  • He sleeps with it. After that it does whatever he wants because he's Zakk Wylde!

  • pinch harmonic

  • Droped tuned PINCH HARMONIC!!! FOR SURE!!!!

  • its just a pinch harmonic

  • Also, I haven't seen anyone mention the fact that you really need to be using active pick-ups to get that tone, that he has. It's a key ingredient

  • When I first started playin guitar I learned the blues first since a lot of rock music was/is influenced by blues. We called them Natural Harmonics and what you call Pinch Harmonics we called False Harmonics. These were super basic techniques cuz in Blues you like to find ways to make your guitar cry and squeal a bit. When I started playing harder stuff a couple years later, all these techniques came in handy and even the old pentatonic scale wasn't totally useless.

  • Pinch harmonic w/ heavy vibrato on a low string.

  • ...um...it could just be a pinch harmonic combined with an insanely wide vibrato and heavy chorus...but what do I know, I just started playing the guitar...on cammand "Synth"...I don't think so, Zakk is not that sophistocated

  • OK, it took me 1 minute to locate a You Tube video where Wylde does the same thing. It is indeed a pinch harmonic. Look up "Zakk Wylde- I don't know", and at the 0:08 second mark he makes the note. Done.

  • Well, with 450+ comments it's pretty likely this was answered, but just in case... This is a pinch harmonic. Do a YT search for how to make them.

Keep in mind Zakk uses EMG active pickups and a very high gain setting on his amp(s). This makes the pinch harmonics much easier to make. He's also one of the kings of pinch harmonics, particularly on the bottom strings.

  • @richardlpalmer It's not even close to a pinch harmonic. It's a synthesized note triggered on command. Why must everybody complicate matters so much? Do a search on THAT - not how to play a simple PH.

  • @beeroosterm It would be much more complicated to trigger a synthesized note on command when you could just do a simple pinch harmonic with vibrato. Replace this with whatever comes after "v=" in your address bar and watch/hear Zakk demonstrate this exact pinch harmonic... "v=0JqNE4N_XsY"

  • @richardlpalmer Already gave my mea culpas...

  • @richardlpalmer Gave my mea culpas; found the video where this is done as a pinch harmonic...

  • @beeroosterm Sorry about that -- didn't notice that was you pointing it out earlier. :)

  • I see many people think this is a pinch harmonic but I'm fairly certain it's a synthesized sound. Pinch harmonics sound nothing like the cartoonish note that's being played here. Listen to ZZ Top for pinch harmonics...

  • @beeroosterm No it is a pinch harmonic he just bends it

  • @MultiSkater45 Well, I guess you told ME. It's NOT a pinch harmonic - not even close. It's a synthesizer. But until Wylde confirms it, there's really no knowing, is there?

  • @beeroosterm dude its not synthesized at all, i've seen Zakk play and I've met him back stage at a show and asked him to do it, it's a pinch harmonic with a full bend down so, stfu and know what you're talking about

  • @MultiSkater45 Gave my mea culpas; found the video where this is done as a pinch harmonic...

  • @MultiSkater45 Mea culpa. Found a Zakk Wylde video where he shows a warm-up doing the same stupid note. It is indeed a pinch harmonic.

  • He bends a pinch harmonic...

  • I have always disliked this note or tone. I hear it in a couple songs with Zakk/Ozzy and some other bands. One band even made a cover of Holy Diver I think it was, and used this bad sound thingy with the guitar. It sounds awful to my ears.

  • DUDE THATS HIS FARTS

  • It's called a pinch harmonic, you do it with you're pick...

  • @Eriklju and your finger, you slightly touch the string after de down picking and bend the string on the fretboard.

  • @nirrox ah yes :) i don't think about that when i do them...

  • @Eriklju YOUR THUMB its ur pick n ur thumb...

  • @lolkrb i know...

  • your hella rude zakk is king

  • This is what they call a pinch harmonic, and zakk uses a wide vibrato( not the tremelo bar) by shaking the string when he hits it, also if you want em to scream like this, lots of gain, a slight touch of chorus(effect)

    hope that helped man

  • @333Dirtbag333 shouldn't he also have the bridge pickup on?

  • pinch harmonics! google it!

  • zakk doen't play guitar

the guitar has to listen to what he wants

  • Plain Zakk.. P.H. , heavy vibrato..too much booze

  • Hey dude they're called pinch harmonics. It's an artificial harmonic that you get when you touch the string with your thumb. He is also using a tremelo while he is doing it. Hope this helps.

  • @GuitarGuy122109 he isnt using a tremolo? most of his guitars have fixed bridges. do you mean vibrato?

  • tuned c g c f a d

pinch harmonic just add abit of your thumb or the tip of your index which ever is comfortable to your pick, move your hand up and down the pickups and youll find a sweet spot where you get nice ones takes some practice though

he does this one on the 6th string, 5th fret :)

  • What the heck man. You might has well called the video pointless pictures of Zakk Wylde. by the way it's called harmonics.

  • its called harmonics ... its done with the extra force and attack on the pick when u pick the string and the note played usualy at the fifth fret of off a pentta scale, usualy at the 4th string at 5 nd 7th fret.

  • ignore those ignorant fucks bagging you. theyre a pinch harmonic and they can be made all over the fretboard on pretty much any string(with enough practise)

  • that is only in the 3rd fret men. just use a gadget and you well know :)

  • learn pinch harmonics

  • Cuando tengas equipos/guitarras como él, y saques sus armónicos, avisame que te hablo. ja

  • its called harmonics u fucking retard... learn about basic guitar skills before u post a stupid pointless fucking video like this next time dipshit

  • why the fuck is this a recommended video?

  • SETTING CALLED RIFFOMATIC..

  • You want some advice? Take your guitar and shove it up your ass sideways then go back to listening to your Nickelback C.D. collection.

  • its called the "check this shit out" noise.

  • Pinch harmonic....6th string,3rd fret ;)

  • @xlr8r2010 bingo- i was going to comment that exact statement but you beat me to it

  • @xlr8r2010 Define "6th String" are you counting from high to low or low to high?

  • @lj781mt

    Low E

  • @lj781mt The thickest string...the low E third fret.It takes some practice to get pinch harmonics down just right.Just let a tiny amount of the pick exposed when you hit the string....your thumb has to hit the string immediately after it is picked to get the right effect....lots of gain will help the harmonics jump out also.

  • @xlr8r2010 best response so far. But you can do it on any string with practice.

  • It's the magical 13th note, H flat. And he's probably playing eliptical muti- fractals of 3rd notes in sequences of 1. Try shutting the fuck up.

  • Wow. you could''ve gone into a guitar center and asked anyone. Instead you wasted yours and everone elses time by posting the most retarded video i've ever seen. Pinch harmonics are basically Zakk Wyld's signature thing. he does it about 18 times in every song.

  • Its Simple. Hes Chuck Norris.

  • your a dj or shit

  • pinch harmonics bud..

  • you dont all have to be douchebags he took time to make a video and ask a question big fuckin deal

  • @NHLpr0 VERY WELL SAID!!!! THANX!!!!! KEVIN H. BLS VA./CALIF. CHAPTERS

  • You can probably just call Zakk up and see if he can spare you some pinch harmonics. He always has plenty to spare, just listen to his performances :P

  • pinch harmonics dude)))

  • use either the fifth or tenth fret and pinch the string at the middle of the humbuckers . if you dont have humbuckers pinch it on top of the middle coil

  • It's called pinch harmonics. If you get the technique just right it sounds exactly like a douchebag who can't play guitar and asks stupid questions on youtube.

  • tune to E flat, spread your legs and insert.

  • Haaan.... Go fuck yourself??

  • He uses a magic fret, the 99th fret.

  • @GroupieCocaineCrazy hahahahaha Awesome!

  • He plays Pinch Harmonics on the 26th fret.

  • Pinch Harmonic.... Say... 3rd Fret?

  • You play the guitar and you dont know what a pinch harmonic is? WHAT THE FUCK!

  • pinch harmonic

  • he practices

  • he uses a rape whistle...

i think if you asked any guitarist first theyd call you a retard, then they would inform you that it is in fact a pinch harmonic

  • HE USES A WHISTLE

  • help

  • its a pinch harmonic

  • He is tuned down a whole step and pinch harmonic on the third fret

  • what the fuck is this shit?

  • Damn...dude you haven't been playing for long have you? It's just a god damned pinch harmonic -.-

  • most times the 3rd or 2nd fret

  • Sounds like no one's tryin to help you out. Look up Pinch or Pick Harmonics \m/

  • it's a great song like this. I can listen to this all day.

  • Pinch harmonic on the third fret in drop c im am pretty sure

  • wah drop tunning like a pinch harmonic on the 3rd or 5th fret lmao seriously? you mus not listen to zakk very much cause he does this shit constantly

  • Pinch harmonics are FUN takes alot of practice to get them right though

  • @bmxbret yeah after a while they are really second nature

  • It's a pinch harmonic. You can get different sounds depending on where you pick from. Sometimes over the neck pickup, sometimes over the bridge pickup. Another cool is on Jackyls' When Will It Rain video. Harmonics are fun. And there are vids here on pich harmonics here so I won't go into details. :)

  • I just did it real easy, it's just a pinched harmonic followed by a fast wide vibrato bend, it's all in the technique, it's not very hard guys

  • You say lady gaga, i say Led Zeppelin

You say hannah montana, i say AC\DC

You say britney spears, i say ozzy

You say jonas brothers, i say The Rolling Stones

You say justin bieber, i say Queen

You say taylor swift, i say Guns & Roses.

95% of teens these days listen to the same crappy pop songs over and over. if your one of the 5% left who still listen to real music, thunb this up, then copy and paste it to t least 5 video's. DONT LET THE SPIRIT OF ROCK AND ROLL DIE

  • @zagaer u 4got , u say justin beiber i fucking punch you in the face. lolol

  • it's fuckin easy pick harmonics is the shit!! it's fuckin best!!

  • 3rd Fret, Then Bend thi pinch harmoric back n forth

  • okay everybody is being an asshole but i can understand how this can sound different, sure it's an artificial harmonic, but zakk does it on the thickest string and then he bends the shit out of it giving it that very zakk wyldish distinct sound, and of course there's some effects on it i think maybe a bit of chorus and some reverb, i had experiment a lot till i could play exactly like that

  • Its the sound of his guitar having an orgasm from Zakks playing. Answer solved!

  • I refuse to believe you can "play" zakk's songs without knowing what PH's are.

  • 3rd fret pinch harmonic drop C on the 6th

  • try pinch harmonic lesson on youtube!

  • Derp. Have you NEVER heard of squealies?

  • dumbass its called a pinch harmonics god kids these days instead of learning how to play real guitar they're playin rockband and other shit like that

  • try fifth fret in drop c, and a lotta gain

  • Dont diss my music, and i will not diss you. Zakk has had a tough life is i. There is a reason to what we like and play. Just try to be respectful and delet this crappy compilation. Dont hate, it is only energy taken from you! If you do not like... Leave it, do not waste time on things u dont like........

  • First of all hes in c# tuning

  • thumbs up if you think zakk wylde CAN play that on the guitar

  • He does that with his mouth :)

    -.-"

  • Again, more cowbel needed.

  • His signature pinch harmonics lol :)

  • Zakk scared the guitar into playing what he wants :)

  • xaxaxaxaxaxaxaxa!!!!!!

  • pinch harmonic sound i usually use the 5th and 6th string on the 2nd to 6th fret
