@azkeyz You're so full of shit you need your own plumbing. You're not related to Zakk. The pedal is called an Overdrive and believe you me, you can't get those pinch harmonics from just that. It's his technique. You fuckin poser.
its a pinch harmonic pal, hard to explain how you actually get the sound but basically it involves your thumb hitting the string one you have plucked it with a pinch sort of feel (use the side of your pleck)but yeah i did mine by accident one time and thought THE FUCK WAS THAT NOISE?! eargasmic im telling you! :P he uses the bottom E string to get this certain pinch sound, i do it on the 3rd fret, so just keep practising buddy you'l get it! it took me a good 2 days to get it 'okay'. Worst guitar player on the planet? Worse than you cocknugget? Who the hell calls an artificial harmonic a "sequel"? A sequel is Empire Strikes Back, Die Hard 2, Predator 2, NOT A FUCKING GUITAR TECHNIQUE GENIUS.
this might show my age a lil,but EDDIE VAN HALEN was doing this in the late 70's -early 80's....so it was one of the 1st things i tried to do on guitar!!i can make pinch, artificial and harp harmonics all over the guitar!!and ,if you have your pick technique down, you dont even have to fret a note at all....(aka dimebag, satriani, van halen) so keep at it!!!and it will come to you.
@bitches762 Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top was doing it even before Eddie! Classical guitarist have been doing it for a long time. It of course took on a new life when Eddie Started doing it. I think Zakk really put his own brand on it though, no one does like him. I remember the first time I heard the no more tears record, I was tripping on the pinch Harmonics! They sounded so different than anyone else.
It's a pinch harmonic. And he hits it on the 5th fret of his A string. You get the sound by attacking the string, but then slightly brushing either the left side of your thumb ( if you play right handed, and vice versa) or the way he does it, by using his index finger. I've only been able to use the index finger a couple of times. He has a unique way of picking, so it's up to the player. Hope that helps and good luck!
@shredskeez LOL, yea I guess your right. My momma told me that if I have nothing good to say, then I shouldn't say anything at all... that was of course, before youtube ;-)
its a note of the 6th fret but bent from the third im pretty sure, with some tight vibrato type shit.also there are many notes in that little area where you pick.and you can also ..fuck it i aint writin no more.
That low whistle-type sound you are referring to can be achieved by hitting almost any one of the lower (fretted) strings. The technique comes from mainly the way it is plucked. You've just got to strike the pick down on an angle towards like 2:00 o'clock looking down, or 5:00 o'clock looking upside down (using the volume or tone knob as the clock) as you simultaneously bend the string with your left hand with a jerk. You really don't need any effects to do this, just practice the technique.
Zakk had this guitar down tuned to drop C. The pinch harmonic is being played on the 3rd fret. Zakk also employs his wah pedal on most of these, to give it a little more bite. Zakk uses his wah pedal for bends and pinch harmonics. If you're having trouble with the harmonics, try turning your gain up just a bit. If you cannot get the harmonics easily, they will not sound right when you add the wah pedal.
hey dude...everyone else is nailing it telling u about pinch harmonics-he also uses jumbo fretwire & uses the new MXR Black Label Chorus pedal that came out last year...don't know if he kicks it on 4 this, but that is how u get that "wavy" sound-check out his G.W. Pinch Harmonic with a wide vibrato on it, done by just barely touching the string with the side of your thumb directly after attacking the note, it stops the note from ringing out properly and just gives you the harmonic overtones. Where you touch the string with your thumb will also change the sound of the harmonic.
pinched/split harmonics man, for some its incrediably difficult, but i use my thumb, as do most people, some use both hands which is a pain in the ass
I find it helps to use the bridge pickup, turn the tone knob up (can be done without but I'd suggest doing it the easy way first). When I teach pinch harmonics (at least my method) I have the kids (or adults) play the note normally -- then I have them rest their thumb on the string below (hit the 3rd fret 6th string G...and using the side of your thumb to touch the 6th, rest your thumb on the 5th afterwards). Once you get used to the feeling, you can do it anywhere. 5,7,12 - the magic frets
When I first started playin guitar I learned the blues first since a lot of rock music was/is influenced by blues. We called them Natural Harmonics and what you call Pinch Harmonics we called False Harmonics. These were super basic techniques cuz in Blues you like to find ways to make your guitar cry and squeal a bit. When I started playing harder stuff a couple years later, all these techniques came in handy and even the old pentatonic scale wasn't totally useless.
...um...it could just be a pinch harmonic combined with an insanely wide vibrato and heavy chorus...but what do I know, I just started playing the guitar...on cammand "Synth"...I don't think so, Zakk is not that sophistocated
OK, it took me 1 minute to locate a You Tube video where Wylde does the same thing. It is indeed a pinch harmonic. Look up "Zakk Wylde- I don't know", and at the 0:08 second mark he makes the note. Done.
Well, with 450+ comments it's pretty likely this was answered, but just in case... This is a pinch harmonic. Do a YT search for how to make them.

I see many people think this is a pinch harmonic but I'm fairly certain it's a synthesized sound. Pinch harmonics sound nothing like the cartoonish note that's being played here. Listen to ZZ Top for pinch harmonics...
@MultiSkater45 Well, I guess you told ME. It's NOT a pinch harmonic - not even close. It's a synthesizer. But until Wylde confirms it, there's really no knowing, is there?
@beeroosterm dude its not synthesized at all, i've seen Zakk play and I've met him back stage at a show and asked him to do it, it's a pinch harmonic with a full bend down so, stfu and know what you're talking about
I have always disliked this note or tone. I hear it in a couple songs with Zakk/Ozzy and some other bands. One band even made a cover of Holy Diver I think it was, and used this bad sound thingy with the guitar. It sounds awful to my ears.
This is what they call a pinch harmonic, and zakk uses a wide vibrato( not the tremelo bar) by shaking the string when he hits it, also if you want em to scream like this, lots of gain, a slight touch of chorus(effect)
Hey dude they're called pinch harmonics. It's an artificial harmonic that you get when you touch the string with your thumb. He is also using a tremelo while he is doing it. Hope this helps.
pinch harmonic just add abit of your thumb or the tip of your index which ever is comfortable to your pick, move your hand up and down the pickups and youll find a sweet spot where you get nice ones takes some practice though
its called harmonics ... its done with the extra force and attack on the pick when u pick the string and the note played usualy at the fifth fret of off a pentta scale, usualy at the 4th string at 5 nd 7th fret.
ignore those ignorant fucks bagging you. theyre a pinch harmonic and they can be made all over the fretboard on pretty much any string(with enough practise)
@lj781mt The thickest string...the low E third fret.It takes some practice to get pinch harmonics down just right.Just let a tiny amount of the pick exposed when you hit the string....your thumb has to hit the string immediately after it is picked to get the right effect....lots of gain will help the harmonics jump out also.
Wow. you could''ve gone into a guitar center and asked anyone. Instead you wasted yours and everone elses time by posting the most retarded video i've ever seen. Pinch harmonics are basically Zakk Wyld's signature thing. he does it about 18 times in every song.
You can probably just call Zakk up and see if he can spare you some pinch harmonics. He always has plenty to spare, just listen to his performances :P
use either the fifth or tenth fret and pinch the string at the middle of the humbuckers . if you dont have humbuckers pinch it on top of the middle coil
It's called pinch harmonics. If you get the technique just right it sounds exactly like a douchebag who can't play guitar and asks stupid questions on youtube.
It's a pinch harmonic. You can get different sounds depending on where you pick from. Sometimes over the neck pickup, sometimes over the bridge pickup. Another cool is on Jackyls' When Will It Rain video. Harmonics are fun. And there are vids here on pich harmonics here so I won't go into details. :)

okay everybody is being an asshole but i can understand how this can sound different, sure it's an artificial harmonic, but zakk does it on the thickest string and then he bends the shit out of it giving it that very zakk wyldish distinct sound, and of course there's some effects on it i think maybe a bit of chorus and some reverb, i had experiment a lot till i could play exactly like that
Dont diss my music, and i will not diss you. Zakk has had a tough life is i. There is a reason to what we like and play. Just try to be respectful and delet this crappy compilation. Dont hate, it is only energy taken from you! If you do not like... Leave it, do not waste time on things u dont like........

w2kmixer 7 months ago
use either the fifth or tenth fret and pinch the string at the middle of the humbuckers . if you dont have humbuckers pinch it on top of the middle coil
stuff56789 7 months ago
It's called pinch harmonics. If you get the technique just right it sounds exactly like a douchebag who can't play guitar and asks stupid questions on youtube.

Irideallamawithtoast 10 months ago
It's a pinch harmonic. You can get different sounds depending on where you pick from. Sometimes over the neck pickup, sometimes over the bridge pickup. Another cool is on Jackyls' When Will It Rain video. Harmonics are fun. And there are vids here on pich harmonics here so I won't go into details. :)

crazyghostfreakdude 10 months ago
I just did it real easy, it's just a pinched harmonic followed by a fast wide vibrato bend, it's all in the technique, it's not very hard guys

3rd Fret, Then Bend thi pinch harmoric back n forth
MegaAcdcrocks1 11 months ago
okay everybody is being an asshole but i can understand how this can sound different, sure it's an artificial harmonic, but zakk does it on the thickest string and then he bends the shit out of it giving it that very zakk wyldish distinct sound, and of course there's some effects on it i think maybe a bit of chorus and some reverb, i had experiment a lot till i could play exactly like that
felphero 11 months ago
Its the sound of his guitar having an orgasm from Zakks playing. Answer solved!
MrGuitarcollector5 11 months ago
I refuse to believe you can "play" zakk's songs without knowing what PH's are.
