Joe is playing a D'AQuisto Excel. Made, of course, by the greatest guitar maker of all time, James L. D'AQuisto. Joe owned two D'Aquisto's. One is in the exhibit in the music museum in South Dakota. The one in this video.....who knows, but the sound is incomparable!
His playing is so perfect.. sometimes understated..he never clashed with what Ella was doing but everything he did was sublime... flawless..easily the greatest jazz guitarist that ever was
A master of the art and the instrument. You can hear him speaking to you with his guitar. So intimately familiar with the instrument that its is an extension of him in everyway. So amazing to watch and listen...mostly listen as my eyes close so I can really hear what he has to "say".
Thanks for posting this. Both songs are great, but I particularly enjoyed his rendition of Ellington's Prelude to a Kiss. It's a song he always did really well. I've heard a recording he made with Duke and it is one of my all time favourite recordings. Thanks again!
Thank you so much for reposting this! I've missed it tremendously. Stuff like this makes me wonder how anybody can be so talented, if you know what I mean.
This is one of the best Joe Pass clips I have ever seen and there are many, many great ones out there. I'm sure Joe would be pleased that this one is available to watch.
I'm the one who had it up. in color even. My ex got mad at me and delted my account on me. I'm starting all over again. When i get around to it i will post it in color again. The version you have my friend had , that one was hosted by an older Norman Granz . I think because of the PAL /NTSC conversion, lost it's color ...unsure why it's in black and white
The first half of this is "Ain't Misbehavin'" but there is a pause midway through and it sounds as if he goes into another song. What is the title of the second song?
Thank you for what all you left us with, Maestro. The beauty of your music would never fade away, as I am also sure you are also our Lord's favorite guitarist up in Heaven.
Joe, you 'Ain't Misbehavin'' on that guitar, that's for certain. Great stuff. Thanks for your music n my life.

You're welcome! The deal with the talent seems to remain one of the secrets of human being.
I've just noticed for myself that it is borderless in every sense.

That's truly a gift :) I hope you always keep these memories as a part of your life!

You know, I really wished to have had the occasion to meet him, but sadly back then I was far too young to appreciate such genre.
MarcelMaier 2 years ago
@MarcelMaier well i dont think anybody is "to young" to appreciate this kind of music...
but they are just hearing rather then realy listening.
People dont take time to understand it.
I just became 17 and I fell in love wit jazz about 3 years ago.
It was only when i took guitar lessons 4 years ago that i realy took time to figure it out.
And now im striving to surpass this man (^^)
well atleast trying to learn any source i can :P
