I got my dad an Inkling for his birthday. he's having trouble importing to illustrator. He says "It draws great! follows my drawing with ease and perfection. However, where I need to use it as a vector drawing is in Illustrator where it appears as a random list of text. I have tried many times to export to illustrator and it comes up as computer code text an numbers".
Can you offer any advice on how to help him import it into Illustrator successfully?
Seems more practical for use with photoshop. I was expecting it to produce more of a clean vector in illustrator. However still looks like a fun and valuable tool.
does anyone here actually own one or at least used one? im curious.
i prefer the feel of pen on paper rather than using a tablet.
I also find it unnatural to look the monitor while i sketch.
How accurate does it trace?
I cant afford to spend $200 on something that im going to have to spend 2 hours cleaning it up in illustrator because there is 500 points in a simple shape.
I may be wrong but after a second look it looks like it just converts your work into brush strokes so you may be able to reduce points by adjusting the fidelity of the brush tool before you import it.
@xxxleithxxx I'm thinking that if you draw something in pencil, then carefully ink over it, it'll come out looking nice. The inkling was designed for sketching, so they use sketchy pictures as an example. I plan to use one to skip scanning and outlining with the mouse.
My question is how accurately can it capture your sketch? Does every little niggly thing you draw on the paper count, or does it just get darker lines?
@crowdcutmedia That would involve a whole new motion sensor with the eraser and the amount of sensing technology involved with impartial erasings and the sort would make the drawing horribly messy. If you really want to be able to erase, first sketch in pencil and then trace with the pen.
@Shinzu92 I was just thinking that. I bet they had a few people come in just to 'test it out' under the condition that they could use their sketches for their videos. Maybe they didn't want to use really good sketches on the off chance that people who aren't very good would be dissuaded from buying it because "I'll never be as good as those people." Now, everyone can see it and say... "Hey, I can do that too!"
Um, gimp is raster, if I'm not mistaken. I think you're confused. This is vector and will likely be EPS, AI, or PDF. I would recommend illustrator or an equivalent vector software to work with files such as this. Photoshop or gimp will take away 80% of the versatility of the vector.
I will be getting this even though I already have a tablet. It will be much easier to carry around than a tablet. Those that say there is no point and they can just carry their tablet are fooling themselves. To use a tablet you must have a laptop, and if you leave your laptop or tablet somewhere then you are SOL. If you leave a pad of paper somewhere it is not as bad. A pad of paper and something that fits in my pocket or a laptop and tablet? I think the answer is obvious for the traveler.
Wacom should add Adobe Flash an editing program, we should be able to export it to FLA format. I'm an animator and I'm going to buy this but eventually I need my sketches to go directly into Adobe Flash.
@crowdcutmedia In my opinion, it's not necessary to erase something from a sketch. This device is not msinly for creating masterpieces, and/or perfect, clean pictures, BUT it can most certainly help you to make a first step towards them. Personally, I don'T like scanning in my handdrawn pictures, with Inkling, I could skip that step...
@douvil scanning also picks up things on the paper that you may not want, and if trying to fill in an area, may cause a bit of fuzz due to the paper's uneven surface.
@rivengle How do you erase? How do you remember layer / switch layer? And who uses layer while sketching? I dont know for you, but I usually used them for painting. The only thing that gizmo is good for is to replace the tablet so you can directly draw on your desk with a no ink pen... cause If I need to carry around a pile of paper, I might as well carry my tablet/Ipad. I never keep all my sketches anyway. 2 or 3 maybe. Than I take the best one and scan them...I dont know. What do you think?
@LobsterPotsticker Men...Common. I'm not that stupid. You retrace you're lines with illustrator afterwords. Coverting sketches lines to vector wont do a perfect job anyway. Youll still have to spend time tweaking those . I hate youtube fo this shit. Wise ass like you assume people dont know what theyre talking about instead of discussing/debating. Are you a waccom salesman? Cause I still would like to know what you have to do to erase a line or clear a layer while sketching on paper.Tks buddy.
@LobsterPotsticker You still found tedious to trace an image in vector after all these years of experience you have, LobsterPotsticker? Or maybe you're still learning?...Keep practicing. Meanwhile keep on doodling in microsoft Paint. Cant wait to see you shitty drawing. Probably worst than the one in that video.. But your are obviously trolling, so let's end it here.
vectoring is about as productive as delivering mail using Pony Express
Let's see. Spend 2 weeks vectoring a single image to perfection only to be soaked head to toe in blood, half insane, & with a killer headache or use this
real men do not vectorize that way. only robots or graphic designer f*ks
if you can't see the advantages you probably sill use a pager or ride around on a horse.
You know it's actually better to sketch with a pen, even if it's for practice. It gives you the opportunity to learn how to make less and less mistakes because you have no way to correct them. I'm sure after you sketch out your basic idea and transfer it, you can edit/ change it completely, it's not meant to be a replacement for a tablet or a sketchbook/ scanner entirely. Just for anyone who's questioning this product.
I dont get why you cant sketch on paper as you have ps open and get it digital right away? Why does it seem like such a hassle to get it on your computer? might as well scan it
@tuigleven cuz you can make different layers to save different parts of the drawing, and edit things separately. they already make drawing tablets, that do both what you and i have just mentioned, but this is like if you're away from a computer but still want to make a drawing that can be more easily worked on than a scan when transferred to a computer.
@r0pp0nmatsu from this video it doesnt look that easy or quick, you want it to be instant. sure the fact that you dont have to sit next to a comp is great but why not make it so that it can be intantly transferred preferbly via bluetooth? all it is now is a very limited, probably somewhat quicker scanner. what sucks about cintiq is that you miss the direct feeling of touch of the paper and it seems you have that this way, plus its much cheaper then a cintiq but still it doesnt seem that great
@smokydave Do you draw? A wacom tablet is a totally different experience because the screen is not where your pen is. A cintiq with a screen in it on the other hand will cost you a thousand dollars and I personally also prefer the feeling off the roughness and resistance of the paper when I draw.
Can't wait to try this. I think this will be great to ink a pencil drawing. From what i've read it has pressure sensitivity. This might be an awesome way to ink your pencil sketches for direct vector results. If i was doing a tight pencil sketch with dark lines i would scan it in drop the opacity and then print it on a low opacity. Then i'd ink it with this. Imagine doing hand lettering with this. Appears that the inkling records the strokes in order, and can animate them, á la early Painter! THAT's cooler than just transferring a small sketch (even if in layers), and portends the arrival of a new hardware release (iPad3 from Mac?).
