Monster Cables are over-priced pieces of crap (no crap though)
Monster has brainwashed you in to thinking that their $100 HDMI cable is really that much better than a $30 HDMI cable, and all cables.
Yes, there is a little bit more build quality in Monster products, but not enough in your video and sound quality to justify the price tag for the regular consumer.

well if you use a very good microphone, you can get good sound. Try using good brands on everything like cables, components. This guy is showing you cheap cables. He should of at least mension you to get like Monster cables for better edging sound.
this is too easy.
if you are more serious into getting good sound contact me
I totally agree with you, but the whole point of this video was to show a cheap and effective way to improve on a lot of setups that people are using for youtube videos. It is catered for the majority of people. Most people are not going to spend a lot of money on Monster cables as the majority of people wont notice the difference. I do use good quality cabling for my own gear and the people that are in the know about good quality cabling and components will not be watching this video ;)
@jlvsoundengineering Monster Cables have been proven again and again to be sub par and not worth their extreme price markup. Also for something like youtube, that is massive, massive overkill.
Also, using a microphone to record a DJ set from your speakers is just plain foolish. You have the option of recording the audio directly from the mixer's line out or record out, it's a clean signal and not subject to room acoustics. It also won't pick up you coughing and other things like that.
@jlvsoundengineering i am honestly a MONSTER cable fan myself, but honestly, there are better out there, just don't stick to brand names (ish a hypocrite now) but yeah.. explore everything, discover what you or the indv. like the most.
djcotts your a STAR!!!!!!!!!!!...........I will post this aroun youtube as its one of the most frequently asked questions.........it was only the other day my mate was asking how to do it and now I know!!!!!!
i have a booth and a tape output on my mixer can i use the tape output if so how do i set it up im using an external sound card creative live soundblaster 24 bit
you can use any sound recorder, even the microsoft one. I'd usually prefer any audio mastering software to use along with it. A nice program just to record can also be "Audiopad", widely available on the net. which is payware though but it can record up to whatever your RAM can hold, be sure to try to record on as high of a bitrate as your mic can take.
I have a problem, if you want to record by plugging the cable from the master output on mixer to pc, how do you play through external speakers at the same time or is this not possible?
What you've got mixed up is that hes talking about a line-in Socket, meaning the audio is going INTO the computer. To hook up External speakers you should look for a green socket (or line-out) and plug speakers into there. you might have to fiddle with a few settings to get that to work. hope it helps =]
No I mean can you connect the MIXER to BOTH computer (to record) AND speakers (BOTH CONNTECTED VIA MIXER) or is it MIXER connected to PC and speakers connected to PC??
ofc u can...well at least on mine i can...my mixer got 2 outputs , one is the master out and the other is booth/session out....so i got my master out hook up to my pc while the other goes to my booth speakers...hope that helps
Cotts i have one computer and thats downstrairs and im going to put my decks in my room wich is upstairs, how do i record if the comp is downstairs? If you could give me some advise that would be gratefull. thanks
as long as I've seen in the vid, he's using an logitech webcam, but you can use nearly every webcam that's good enough, for example, I'm using an eyetoy ;)
Exellent mate , been wonderign how to do this 4 ages , hopefully sort it out now when i get a laptop lol , keep it up mate nice work , look forward to your next mix!!! peace
again I reiterate here im just doing a simple explination for the masses and how it can work for just about everyone. Im not suggesting that this is my own method applicable to my setup.
hey thats cool, soundcard is more important anyway (its all about the SOUND). Yeah just make sure you ride those levels guys, nothing in the red, digital just dont like it! Salivating that next mix brother. Keep it hardcore
Ooh... Movie maker... I personally would not recommend using this (can record into a lossy format). I would use a freeware audio program such as Audacity (recommended because of broad range of compatible OSes) or something similar. That way, you can directly edit the wav file if you want and save it to other formats from there. That way you are sure you are not losing any quality. From there you can import it into movie maker. This is what I do when I record my mixing. Just throwing this out.
Im not talking about recording a mix here, personally I use Sony SoundForge to record all of my mixes. Im just talking about a basic way to record a video mix with decent enough sound quality for youtube (improving on the mic that a lot of people use) I understand that there are better ways to do this but it does the job this way and is simple enough for the masses to follow
hahahah more like thankyou for posting. Anyway M-Audio are doing some really nice cards, I just use the Soundblaster due to it being at a nice price point and the external XFi bay with coax in etc.. It does the job excellent for what is.
got one question though, been using Virtual Dj +fruity loops and what not, but i want to get a deck, are there any "cheap" beginer one i should get? thanks man!
Don't forget that if your audio card and mixer both support digital audio, you can get top quality by connecting them with an optical cable. This kind of set up is more complicated (beyond the scope of this video) but worth it in the long run.
i record my videos in my photo-camara and the audio into the computer using a soundcard (like this video, but only the audio, no video), then, I edit the video and join the video plus the audio (of course, i remove the original audio of the video) and walla.... very good stereo sound quality xD and if you watch the video in HD the audio is more clear than the lite version of the video (if your videos support HD)
to make sure that the sound is ok i use the program called "Audacity" to calibrate the volume.
just setup your input in audacity, play some record and make sure that the red bars that show the input do not go higher that about 2db of the end of the bar.
