Excellent run by Gay, he really takes off when he gets his hips under him. I think the key to him getting a better start is getting his hips forward right off the block rather than having such an aggressive lean at the waist. A compromise on the lean, that puts him in a better position to reach full extension on his first few strides would probably put him right there with bolt and powell off the start.

everyone else puts their foot one inch above the track at the starting blocks. Tyson Gay puts his toes right on the track in the starting blocks. The blocks are almost swooping 90 degrees to the track until about two inches off the ground. Then the angle goes almost parallel to the track. Wouldn't Gay be better served hiking his starting position up one inch or so like Powell for a more streamlined start. Take a chapter out of Ben Johnson's start , not the drugs but the concep tfor the start.

Gay even said himself he'd be focussing more on 100m this season and already confirmed he won't be runnin 200m in Deagu. And shadow's right, as much as it seems like Powell's start + Gay's top end speed = 9.5, if you take a look at Bolt's 9.58 splits, they're faster than Powell and Gay's fastest splits put together.
