  • The elbow follows the fist through space. The fist is rolled over to keep the muscles and bones aligned throughout the movement.

  • Why the 8.-th degree black belt wears the belt of red color? The music in the final part of videoclip is awfull. Otherwise great entertainement

  • While I am sure there is a history / reason why the names are switched ... this is, in most styles, Uchi Uke. Of the 4 styles ive had seminars / learning / teaching in, 1 called this Soto Uke. I suspect there is some connection between Naha-te, Shuri-te and Tomari-te and the naming of this block. I ( jokingly ) think to myself that some grandmaster some where simply got his names mixed up.

  • I cringed when he "pronounced" karateka.

  • What they call uchi-uke is of course soto-uke. Someone forgot their Japanese pocket dictionalry, LOL

  • The kata is Naihanchi Shodan...Shorin ryu. Okinawa Karate...They were on Okinawa for this episode of Human Weapon.

  • 2) Shidokan (志道館) is named by Katsuya Miyahira (4Dan), the signs meaning is:

    Motive(SHI)-Way (DO)- Small Castle/Castle/Mansion (KAN).

It looks a lot like Kokunshinkai, in the way of thinking.

  • The kata's name is Naihanchin San dan.

  • Looks like a Kata we call Tekki Shodan in Shotokan, This one is done almost the same way as in Wado Ryu. How can we say thinking is the Enemy?

  • I may be wrong. but isn't that the Soto Uke and not the Uchi uke?

  • @Grimmwood most styles call it uchi uke, since it blocks to the inside. shotokan calls it shoto uke because the block comes FROM the outside. same block, just a different name.

  • why is this big bold headed guy wearing a top under his gi? that's rly rude especially considering where they are and who they're with, but i guess thats americans for you!

  • exelente!

  • the name of the master here is same as the name of the present master of beikoku shorin ryu shidokan his name is hanshi seikichi iha a 10th dan red belt karateka hanshi iha is a senior student of hanshi katsuya miyahira also a 10th dan red belt, hanshi miyahira is the founder of the shorin ryu shidokan style,, thanks for the upload God bless!

  • the name of the master here is same as the name of the master of the beikoku shorinryu shidokan his name is hanshi seikichi iha a 10th dan red belt karateka a direct student of hanshi katsuya miyahira founder of the shorin ryu shidokan style thanks for the upload Godbless!!

  • Very cool to see something so close to my style, over in the "motherland" - alive and well.

  • cool

  • Historic Channel

  • what show is this. it interests me so.

  • Human Weapon, used to come on History Channel couple years ago.

  • is shuri te and shorin ryu the same?

  • shorin ryu came from shuri te and tomari te

  • @sjunnpremirotjavoar Shotokan has some Shuri te, and Naha te , So you see Shorin Ryu has some Shuri te in it. Shito ryu has Shuri te, Naha te and Tomari te, it depends on the style heads.

  • Isn't Seikichi Higa a Goju practitioner, quite the opposite of a Shuri-Te master? Or do two masters in Okinawa have exactly the same name?

  • if you notice, the kata is Naifanchin shodan....not a Goju kata....by the way Higa is as smith is in england....a common name

  • I have trained with both of these teachers, and it is Shido-Kan shorin ryu of the Chibana line through Miyahira. I regret to say that the Higa in this film, the red belt, died over the summer. RIP.

  • Higa is a very common name in Okinawa, I know many masters with this name.

  • P.s. for the last time, the 'Sensei' 'punching' that board? Omg, where is the hip rotation? HONESTLY!

  • Bolloxs. Sorry but I have studied Shotokan Karate for many reasons and also researched Shuri-Te for equal time as well. At no point was Sokon Matsumura or Anko Itosu said in that at all, who lived in Shuri Castle, as body guards to the the King. Oh and the purpose of Kata is NOT to build muscle tension. It may do that, but that is NOT what Kata was designed for, at all!

  • gakazuki is a punch from the hip, you have to twist the wrist obviously.

These guys are 10th kyus, wtf are they teaching us what we already know?

  • Omfg, your right, it's called Gyakazuki for a reason. The terminology there is wrong. Choku is 'snap' or similiar to that translation. 'Choku Zuki', Snap or Jab punch. Seiken I'm sure is 'Fore'. Furthermore, the guy needs to learn to speak. Zukeyyyyy? Ney lad, just ney.

  • thoes animations r sick!

  • The bald guy is really bad. & the other dude asks too many freakin questions & complaining. Just shut up and train. They wonder why Japanese don't wanna teach americans.

  • Ya,but how are the viewers going to know what's going on? They're HOSTS,so they need to host and help better explain, incase someone doesn't understand. They explain it differently, not everyone learns alike.

  • Maybe they should do one of the other. lol. I know the game, its television. What more can I expect.

  • This block crosses centerline all one need do is a redoublement anmd bingo he's hit, also he could just fake the jab and the over commited block fails to make it's mark and bingo yet again the blocker is hit.

  • @jeetkunejimi In that case The arm can move back the way it came, That block would be Nagashi uke, to counter the next attack, even otoshi uke will do too! Remember he is teaching beginners here!

  • This...is not even the tip of the iceberg...

They need to not do shows like this. Doesn't do any art justice

  • Agreed

  • My Uncle is Scott Batey. 10th degree blackbelt.

  • lol, since when is Scott a 10th Dan?

  • Thers no such thing as a tenth dan, in shuri-te it goes up to 5th dan

  • if he isn't a 10 th degree he should be,]

very knowledgeable in the art of shuri-te

    and its history... Big Bruce>>>>>>>>>

  • thats shit man

  • Makes perfect sense: snap and rotate the wrist at the end.

  • The only issue I had about this episode is they did not show techniques from shotokan.

  • @Jh7478 This is Shuri te!
