  • the vietcong take it from the frecne

  • French Foreign Legion was the first to use this.

  • rare footage of an operating mat49, thank you. it was described by some soldiers as a non accurate gun, or "non-intuitive aiming". do you confirm?

  • Molto bene.....

  • i like how this gun folds up

  • goddamn this gun is ugly

  • @TheMrSchwansen Not ugly, just function over form. Pretty guns don't get the job done.

  • @BoBDaNitro no shit sherlock, the freakin description says it

  • Looks like a French impression of the MP-40. Cool.

  • @Harris91

True. It uses the same ammo as the MP-40, after all.

  • Non ti sono partite le orecchie?!

  • Crazy french

  • The great thing about this weapon is that to this very day, you can still obtain from a very wide source base, nearly all the spare parts and accoutrements. I managed to find the original manual, sling and issue kit from Ebay!.

  • That is one ugly gun

  • @akjk123123 But seems to stay on target well and seems to work. What more can you ask for?

  • @chrismc410 I still think its ugly as hell. But it does seem to get the job done very well.

  • @akjk123123 I wouldn't call it ugly. I'd say it looks all business. If a gun looks pretty and does the job, then that is good, if it's ugly and does the job, then I say it looks all business.

  • Still,is one of the best sub,ever!

Only problem it had,was that the CHARGEUR,has only one column and therefore, the MAGAZINE takes less bullets ,compared to other subs!

The rate of fire is excellent!

  • @MegaHitman666

There are two models of mags, the standard 32 shots staggered, and the single column 20 round magazine called "sahara".

Paratroopers carried 10 magazines in two 5 mags canvas pouch.

  • @MegaHitman666 I've served a lot of years in the french forces and I've only seen double column 32 rds mags ! There is a single column 20 rds mag named " sahara " but I haven't seen any . The 32 rds mag makes this gun the equivalent of german MP 40 or british STEN submachine gun in firepower . The MAT 49 is simple to use and to care of , it's reliable and can be foldeded making it easy to hide or carry . I LOVE THIS GUN ! Rate of fire : 550 shots per minute ....

  • @coyote13300

Anyone having served "a lot of years" in the French Forces from the 60s to the 90s has come across the 20 rounds "désert" magazine, it was standard with the paratroopers units pre-deployed in Africa like in Dakar, Fort Lamy, Beyrouth, Djibouti......

  • @menhir06 Sorry ! Never seen any in 18 years of service ! Perhaps have I served 18 years in the pom pom girls ! You're a real pro !

  • @petrentuit

Plenty of military cooks, mechanics, medics..... had little use for weapons.

The 20 round magazine was not used by units based in France and Germany (FFA) but almost exclusively by the troops serving overseas, same as the Citroen FOM truck.

  • @petrentuit

Whatever you did you were not in a RPIMA or RIMA.

Plenty of military cooks, mechanics, medics..... had little use for weapons.

The 20 round magazine was not used by units based in France and Germany (FFA) but almost exclusively by the troops serving overseas, same as the Citroen AWD truck FOM also nicknamed "Chameau".

  • @MegaHitman666 Yes the 20 rds mag has been in use during the algerian war . It had been designed for a use in sandy conditions . But because of it's poor capacity It has been abandonned for the 32 rds mag by most of the french regiments . The advantage of having a " special sand " mag appeard to be less interesting than to have a standard 32 rds mag , because the efficience of the MAT wasn't affected at all . The Mat was reliable enough to be fed with the 32 rds mag even in sandy conditions .

  • It's the only sub i know of that has the bark of an assault rifle :D

The MAT-49 is one mean mother effer. UZI's and MP5's aren't scary from a distance. This is n_n.

  • Fantastic SMG. Compact, easy to handle & packs a power of 9mm :)

  • the viet cong used that

  • Shame people don't know about this gun. One of the best SMGs issued. It is cheap, reliable, simple to use, easy to handle, extremely compact, and one of the safest guns ever made. You can fold the magazine away from the gun when not using it, making storage easy and reducing risk of accident but the instant trouble comes, quick flip and 32 rounds of 9mm ready.

  • @Stritchers Yeh i agree, alot of countrys used this gun till around 1970 or 1990 not so sure about it. It was like the ak 47 of Sub-Machine guns. It was such a great weapon system, they made a rifle sized version with a long barrel and a full stock.

  • @Stritchers You're totally right ! I've served a long time in the french forces and you have exactly said what was to say about this fantastic SMG ! I don't have anything to add to your comment ! I own one of these machines and I love it soooo much !!!

  • brutta a dir poco... :)

  • @MarkTools

  • I'd rather tote an MAT49 into combat, they don't jam like an M16 does.

  • @WVAK47 you can't compare these two weapons because the m16 is an assault rifle and the MAT 49 is a smg

  • @faerials Une arme magnifique

J'avais la meme en tant que 1er GV

  • reminds me of the m712...

  • Bad Ass

  • you cant compare the 49 with a famas rifle. the 49 have 9mm parabellum and the famas have a 5,56 mmm bullet

  • It's the french weapon !

  • NICE! :D

  • the vietnamese used and build it too.

  • it's an old gun (1949) and I used to shoot with it when I was in the army but the famas is more powerful and accurate...

  • This gun is the shit man

    awesome power for its size

  • I like how it folds up...

  • Very nice video, thanks !

  • ah ho capito grazie

  • I hve use this wepon at my gme..

but so hard to kill ppl..

  • Thanks for the video...

  • I always thought MAT 49s were such a neat design!

This is from Italy? Under what circumstances were you able to shoot this?

  • Ricorda un pò l'MP 40 Tedesca della 2 Guerra Mondiale...

  • a me quel tipo fa un po paura...

  • mdr

  • Alain Delon!
