It looks 100% perfect the way it is. It adds character. I hate people that completely restore and modernize these old cars...then thy all look the same.

It's like the rat rods...they do not restore anything on them. Just new wheels, and a tuneup for most of them. Everything stays original. The look of "weathering" is more beautiful to me than shiny candy paint.

1. That car uses a lot of gas

2. Gas prices are outrageous these days

The second lid was the one that was on it but it was rusted to bad so i used one that came on my parts car.

and gas prices are the reasons it'll be my weekend car, lol

my opinion is that you should keep it as a 68'. If you convert it into a 69' then it isnt going to be worth as much. there are already too many 68's that have been converted and having an old 68 would be pretty cool

The best thing you can do is *completely* disassemble it, bag and tag everything, then send it out to get media-blasted. I got mine done, top to bottom for only 500 bucks. Then make sure you cover it in some nice self-etching primer ASAP. There is a product called 'Veri-Prime' that works awesome.

Thats what Im doing, it looked like shit when we first started work on it, the guy we bought it from had it in the woods behind his house, before he got it it was left down by a river and was underwater during Hurricane floyd back in "99, so as you can tell the car was not taken car of, it is in terrible shape, under the rear end the trunk and about 3 foot of the chassis are rotted away

Looks good for a clunker :D. When you make it a General Lee, see if you can talk to Mopar and order '69 Rear Taillights and a grill, Chrysler still sells them.
