hi i have a sand viper aswell and im thinking of getting a brushless system on it. could you please tell me what modifications you had to do to the gearbox and how much it cost ? thanks
I haven't clocked it. The speed limit on that street is about 35mph. i can catch up with most cars, assuming they're doing the speed limit (yeah right) it's about 35 to 40mph.
That's what Tamiya haters want you to think. It's the same as any other RC car. All I had to do was drill a few holes in the motor casing to make room for the Traxxas motor. If I bought any other brushless motor, drilling would have been unnecessary.
Buy the kit, don't buy the ready to run model, and you'll be fine. The kit comes with full instructions (probably the best you can find, gotta love Tamiya), and after assembling, you'll do fine changing the motor.
Pretty much any other motor is a direct replacement, so there's no modifications like I had to do.
Look at radiocontrolzone, and rcuniverse. They have good forums for discussion and advice.
Tamiya is KNOWN for their fantastic instructions. I am an Team Associated guy and I think Tamiya has some of the greatest cars ever! But no one around me stocks parts... and by the way, on my T4, the Traxxas system didnt fit either, so I cut the shaft off with a Dremel. But I do like Associated, they are SUPERSTRONG!
Have you upgraded or stripped any gears yet? I'm thinking about putting my velineon into a new Dark impact df-03 that I just bought today, but I'm worried about the nylon gears.

what kind of gears did you use? 15t pinion gear?
camel303 2 years ago
I used the 17t actually.
craze1701 2 years ago
So you are using all the original gears from the sandviper? And the Vilineon motor/speedcontrol does'nt get to hot?
I had a conventional 11 turns brush motor on it with 7 nicad cells and the motor just went up into flames.....

I stripped the pinion gear, that's about it. I use it for kicking around and not for racing anyway.

Yes, it's brushless.

Awesome power man good stuff.

Actually I chewed up the aluminum pinion gear for the motor. The nylon Tamiya gears are tough! Pinion gears are easier to come by anyway.

Thanks! That's very encouraging!

Thanks. I didn't see many other people use the Traxxas brushless on anything other than Traxxas cars, ao I figured why not.
