Lauren Bacall's first film & she's only 19 years old!! Delivering one of the best lines in a Hollywood script. It's a moment in a picture you wait for. Poor Bogey KNEW he was upstaged at that moment & that's when he fell in love with Lauren. This film also has the great music and performance of Hoagy Carmichael ("Hong Kong Blues" also covered by George Harrison.). The other "moment" is when Lauren sashays away from Hoagy at the end of the film. What a walk. She doesn't even have to speak.

This is an iconic scene. Admittedly, there are near no classic movies yet in this millennium.

When you see theses two on the screen you see Humphrey Bogart and a smoldering sexy woman. You don't realize that he's 45 years old and she's 19. They made this movie in 1944, they got married the next year and stayed married until he died in 1957. If this line was in todays movies they would make it sound to provocative. In the old movies they give you a little and let you use your imagination. Today they give it all to you. No need to use your imagination. It's in your face.

That was the downfall back then...many of the great actors, or could be, were not used to their potential. Mariam Marsh was not used to her potential & Peter Lorre was so underrated. He could have done so much more than he already did! To name only 2 others aside from Martha.
