Erik Petersen is flat out the reason why I got an acoustic guitar and learned to play it (that and old against me). I remember when I first saw them in Chicago with loc, i had never heard of them before, and their set got cut short so Erik Petersen went out in front of the statue in Logan square and just played to like 30 fans sitting around him. It was one of the more genuine music moments I've ever seen. Ever since that I've fallen in love with Mischief Brew
this band deserves all the attention they get. i don't think if they got more known that they would change at all.. erik is an incredibly nice dude who doesn't seem like he could ever be a "rockstar". and if they do get big atleast i can say my band played with them haha. in all honesty i think mbrew would appeal to the right people though, they aren't gimmicky or anything. not that there is a wrong people.. but.. theres certainly such thing as having annoying fans..
i hope that they dont get big at all, good thing left over crack broke up the band before they got too big and all...i hate when bands get big and shit....dont want it...
well... i mean, making a living is one thing, compromising your music and values to do so is another thing. i know the punk community can be a little psychotic about this, but it can be really obnoxious when a band who've been preaching DIY all along betrays their fans for money. especially if it was LOC, the vocal squatter punx, about as DIY-preaching as you can get.
understandable but cant you do both lol. I would like to think if I was a musician, my fans would like to see us do well in life. But I understand entirely. I just think that a band whose going to be be serious and plans to do this for a living at some point does deserve to be able to make a a good living. Just because your making money does not mean you sold out.
that's true, i suppose. and it's sort of silly anyway, i mean, bands like Aus Rotten may make no cash from their music, but all that means is that they have to have day jobs, which as far as contributing to the corporatist economy is surely just as bad if not worse. that said, i think i (fairly) diy lifestyle is workable, and should be the goal, and i like a band a lot more if they do it, it's something i identify with. but i'll listen to bands who arn't diy too.
yup! And honestly you cant avoid. I pretty work all day and then live my life. thats it I do the best I can do everyday. and wish the best to those who deserve and bust their ass for it.
Leftover Crack supported obama when the election rolled around rather than burning down a building or something you would much more expect, ive lost all my respect for them, and ive heard nofx played the democratic national convention, speaking of betrayal...
but Mischief Brew is the illest thing since sliced bread
i know i was really upset, my freind cabot went to see them and they were like "yeah we're all gonna go vote for obama right?" and everyone in the crowd was like "fuck yeah" and they were serious i was pist
i wasn't actually at the show this happened at, this is all second hand information technically but my friend was telling me about it, but you might be right i thought that too
This was an awesome show. I can't believe it was almost five years ago now...

Money ruins inspiration. Music is only as good as the soul that was put into it.

It doesn't fucking matter if a band gets big as long as they don't change their sound for the sole purpose of making money.
