Great work, videoLies. The Left is constantly accusing right wing journalists of being liars. And any mistake or error qualifies as a lie when they are criticizing the Right. Perhaps they are even correct in finding legitimate lies. But too few people are holding the Left to the same standart.
According to the article in the link you posted, the New York Times printed an article, quoting a book proposal, showing that Schwarzenegger said exactly what Franken is saying in this video. Why can't it be that Franken is only requoting something he read in the Times? Sorry, but this isn't damning evidence of him having lied.
No need to say "sorry" because we agree with your standards. Franken is guilty only of lazy journalism and not a "lie". unless you ask Al. This non-issue is only the subject of entire chapters in a book accusing people of being "liars" under Frankens rules of what constitutes a "lie". he spends over a page attacking Coulter, Goldberg & O'Reilly for exactly what you accurately describe as non-evidence of a lie.
I've read his book, and disagree completely. In fact, I think it's pretty disingenuous to characterize the antics of Coulter et. al. as simple misunderstandings. Leaving that aside, the lies of someone like O'Reilly are notorious (the "Malmedy" incident, to name but one). It seems to me that defending that kind of towering falsehood, if that is what you mean to do, borders on mere ideology, and lessens your credibility.
It's not a question of "disagree". Its a factual assertion. if you claim that Franken does not apply the ridiculous standard of "if you repeat a false claim made by someone else, then you are a liar" then you have either not read his book, or are lying to cover for him.
Stay focused. you are wrong to characterize our citation of Frankens book as the opposite (criticisms not within Frankens book). Stay on topic. our site is a fact-check on an author. not a hate-fest for any pundit or ideology.
Yes, you're right. So let me correct myself to say that perhaps Franken is only requoting the book proposal, or something that sourced it, or another source entirely. The fact is, we don't know what his source his, so accusing him of lying is itself dishonest.
we would never presume to be transparently partisan, foolish and stupid enough claim that saying something false is automatically a LIE. we are not psychic, so it is dishonest to claim without proof that a person making a factually inaccurate claim is a liar.
This is only a big deal according to FRANKEN. it is Al Franken, who dedicates chapters in his book calling his ideological opponents "liars" several times for less egregious errors than the one he made. That is the point of the vid
Smalley...what are you like 10 yrs old? What a loser. Good thing uninformed voters came out in droves for Obama, voted straight Dem ticket, and thus allowed you to eek in over a legitimate Senator and good man.
No. lying about a quote so he can slander an opponent, displaying a disgusting hypocrisy he constantly (and often falsely) rails against others for is the smallest flaw we could find on video. the other lies are much worse. I know, sad for Franken huh?
It seems like it could have been an honest mistake, didn't he apologise for it?
anyways it is hipocritical to lie, while constantly accusing others of lying. But I think that Franken does a lot of good to the society everytime he catches a politicaly influencial person lying, as he has done often times. Don't you agree?
if it was an honest mistake or not is irrelevant. the point of this video is not "omg! Al made funz of Arnold with a false quote!" its simply that Franken is a hypocrite who doesn't follow his own rules. He calls other peoples honest mistakes "lies" and when its pointed out that its a mistake (like the 2 mistakes in all of Coulters books that were corrected in the paperbacks before LIES was published) he says that is sloppiness that is the same as lying.
we have studied Franken closely and have yet to find an actual "lie" (an untruth told by someone who knew what they were saying was not the truth) he has found anyone to have spread. you are welcome to help us out, as well as clue us in on when/where he apologized for this "mistake" in the video and we will be glad to note it despite it not changing the point of its posting.
I sure am looking for his apology, but haven't found anything, but I haven't looked thoroughly.
But I have seen quite a few videos of him pointing out lies of others, and his arguments were all solid and very convincing. I'll give you one example that I saw the other day, of O'reilly talkin about a sweedish study. search franken o'reilly sweedish study
if Franken the turd stain was on fire in the gutter, i wouldn't piss on him to put him out. what a COMPLETE moron, & not to mention, a crappy comedian!
Great fact checking boys!Lots of time on your hands? Now put that to good use on where Bin Laden is,who sent out the anthrax letters, who was fucking Jeff Gannon-Guckertin the White Hoiuse, outed a CIA agent, tortured, lied us into war, stole our taxpayer dollars, forgot about New Orleans & is responsible for destroying our economy!
Al should be either a politician or a comedian. To be both makes him not very good at either. But then again, inaccuracies of any sort can be covered up with "Come on, I was joking!" Seriously, we need to demand more from people running for office, more than a Stuart Smalley or a body builder.
Is there any way to verify the quote? Not that I don't trust the red letters on black, but I'd like to hear it for myself. I like Arnold, and don't think he would say that, but in spite of the conservative slant on the video I do respect Franken (as a comedian). Where exactly was this said? Where was it reported? I'd be curious to read/watch it for myself.
and how does one "misunderstand" someone saying "i did not admire what he did with it" to mean "i admire what he did with it"?
and why must he be arrested and jailed for being a liar? kindov a harsh standard... why not just acknowledge that he is a hypocrite and loose with the facts and that be the end?
funny, you dont have the tape of Arnold speaking. I personally dont believe you. You plainly are on a vendetta against Al and promoting a website. You probably dont even believe your own horseshit, and are doing it just for money.
damn! you uncovered us. we snuck into the LA Times' office and wrote that news story with the quote from Arnold ourselves. how did you know?? pesky kids.
FAIL.
the source is from the Times. idiot. your beef is with them, not us.
the alleged defense of Schwarzenegger is nonexistent. you made it up. This video presumes only to show that Al Franken is a liar that doesn't live up to his own standards of accuracy.
Your criticism, even if it were factually accurate, is a fallacy anyway since its easy to admire micro things in a human who is evil on a macro level. "how on earth" could a prison guard admire the tidy cell or basketweaving ability of a murderer under his authority? by using the human ability to think critically.
The Left and the Media lying to the American public? I can't be!

FALSE. the Times article shows Arnold say: "But I didn't admire him for what he did with it". the OPPOSITE of what Franken claimed.
