Amazing how precocious a singer she was - 17 years old, and singing like that!! I'm sure that everyone has a God-given talent, and hers is very plain.
@kwesi01 i know...its just simply a Blessing to be 16-17 and singing like she 30 something!....one of the best singers of all time...just PURE talent, not none of that "nonsense" we see soo much today. she is very much underrated
What only people who grew up then remember was Disco was the first time anyone partner-danced in almost 20 years. In this clip, you see people freestyling. That was part of Disco but so was partner dancing. It was WASPy whites who had been the first generation not expected nor shown how to partner dance, who felt foolish on the dance floor. As Disco went on, those guys labeled Disco as "gay" and, in those years (late '70's) that was enough to make American men become defensive.
Yes I agree. This era of music always made you feel good. It was happy upbeat stuff. Music today is loud, harsh and makes me want to put a gun to my head. The world in general is a depressing place now. Back then it was lighter and not so dismal. This music was a reflection of that.
Wasn't Norma Kamali more early 80's though? I didn't hear of her in 1978.
Have to agree with rocflex.... Talent is almost a lost art... Now a days it's all about who can either suck the most dick or use the most autotune... And she is rediculously sexy in this video... Had I been born 30 years earlier I'd have had to marry her! Lol
Ah yes ,Ft. Eustis Va. Ms. King did a free concert on post for us Soldiers.Truly the best concert ever. Thank you again. At the end she got into the van and she was blowing me kisses I'll never forget that. Truly the Best!
Oh My God..I did alot of slutty things back in the 70;s I loved every minute of it and I don't regret a thing! I'm 51 and I wish i was still 21! MMMMmm!
they still had perms tho. But the talent in the 70's for soul was at its peak. There were about 50 unique and beautiful voices during those years. . Now we get maybe one a decade, if that.
When I was a pro musician back in the day,I got to meet and do a show with Miss Evelyn. She was playing a club using her sound tracks and her sister for back-up vocals. When my group took the stage for our set she and her sister joined us. Both, truly beautiful and gracious ladies.A treasured memory!
@DUCKYSMITH72 Disco gets a bad rap, Duck; you and me both know that it was one of the most creative periods as far as music was concerned in American history...PEACE.

I wonder how you will look in 20 years? If you think you will be the same as today, you will be very disappointed.
PatsBooks 1 year ago
@haroldking Most people gain weight as they get older and although she no longer has a teenager's body, she still looks great at 50!

It's amazing. Back in the days women were natural. No fake hair nor fake tits. It was all about talent, talent, talent.

@otsari1 couldn't agree more, nothing better than natural beauty and raw talent.

@DUCKYSMITH72 Yes it is one of the best dance records of all time, but it's still Disco, and there's nothing wrong with that...

My name is Sandra Dee Lawson, and I just like to say,
that I've also grew up with Evelyn "Champagne" King,
when I was fifteen year's old, in the late seventhties.
And now, I have all and everylast one of her albums
and her brand new CD: Open Book 2008.
sandralawson18 1 year ago
See, I've been listening to all and everylast one of
Evelyn "Champagne" King's music alot, and I never got
tire of it, either. Evelyn "Champagne" King is the most
best of all those famous artest, like Madonna and even
Whitney Houston, of all famous people.
sandralawson18 1 year ago
You know a few minutes ago during the mid eighties,
Whitney Houston was the biggest winner, the best of all
of them, but that Evelyn "Champagne" King finally came
back, it makes me so happy that Evelyn King finally
came back. So welcome back! Evelyn!
