I think she did very well considering she was a new member at the time, this is an outside concert so it was very hot weather, and throughout this concert the mics were dodgy anyways. Plus all of the dancings!
My only gripe with this performance is that she hasn't got her expression down yet. I know she used to be "itsumo SUMAIARU" in the group but you really didn't need to be so happy looking in this Mittens XD
Obviously not her best here, but she has improved heaps since then, and she sounds a lot better than Michishige or Koharu when they first joined. Heck, she sounds better here than they do now.

I still think Mittsi's cuter. she has a special smile and babyface. that makes her cuter. Koharu is cute too though. she is not popular because of her cuteness, she's popular because she's Kirarin. In Japan cuteness is important, but I don't think it really rules over a good singing voice. I mean, I only know about two cute idols that are not really good singers, Koha and Sayu. all others can sing good or at least alright.

@CrescentTaryn In Aika's debut single with Morning Musume which was Egao YES Nude Aika got at least 5 lines for it being her very first single which was more lines than Eri & Sayumi had put together. She was the main vocalist for that song. Even for Koharu's first debut single with MM she only got one line. Don't get me wrong, I love Aika and I think she is great, but I also like Koharu too, so I think that maybe you should check your sources before criticizing another member. =/

Its not just in comparison to Koharu, but with ai and reina, and lately, eri and risa. It just bothers me that favorites are the only ones that sing solos.

Looking at this performance, Aika is truly the member in the group who deserves the title "Miracle Girl". She has improved so much from this performance, and she has an amazing memory, along with an adorable face. Mitsui-chan, watashi wa anata ga suki desu!!
Aika is amazing when alone. She has the face of a very young child attached to the body of a very young teenager. She has a naturally cheerful presence. Unfortunately, when in a group she fades into the background. I honestly can't tell her apart from the other girls, unless I individually identify all the other girls first she's with-it's so strange.
imo, koharu only sounds weird because she forgot how to be koharu when performing with morning musume and not be kirarin or whoever the heck the anime character is.
Miracle girl was Koharu, who, of course, is no miracle at all, i hope the next girls in morning musume will be good singers cuz after Tanaka, Takahashi and Niigaki graduate, the group will be doomed.. Kamei can sing and Lin Lin and Jun Jun as well, but it still isn't enough.

She's a member of Morning Musume(currently 9 members). The one in this video is a member, too. Kusumi Koharu is known for being really hyper, and having a bad voice(sorry Koha fans). A lot of people don't like her because she is given too many lines in songs and is put in the center a lot. She's also voices the main character in an anime. That's probably where she gained most of her popularity.
It's because like what Hoshiya said she is known as the "miracle girl" of de group and of course have to do slightly more solo lines i guess... even though i like her she seriously can't sing live. she gets way too nervous and ends up singing all de wrong pitch. i agree most other mm members have better voice than her, but she has to live up to de name tsunku gave her.
I know she didn't pick all of her places in it, but she just can't sing that well. And when she does actually sing live she always sings in a higher pitch then needs to. I just wish management would actually give her a lower pitched song. Because Pancake is one of the worst H!P songs ever.
It's so funny to see people getting so bent out of shape just because someone says one thing about Koharu that's true. You think Koha is the ONLY one that works hard in the group? Get real, dude! All the girls work hard!! But even before KR she still overdid stuff....people called it spastic, but it was still overkill.

i agree with badatbeinggood about koharu and also another reason is because koharu pushes herself into the centre. first because of her looks and cuteness and shes a good public speaker for the group. i love mitsui from the first time, i think people comapre koharu to her so much is because they are the same age group and she is pushed to the back. Tsunku always forgets the talents into the group and sticks with one thing only. i think he should try to explore the memebers more.
Lots of reasons. But they're ALWAYS reasons that are either completely irrelevant to whether or not she makes a good "idol" (ie: aidoru BY DEFINITION do NOT need to be good singers), or...
...they're reasons based on hearsay (eg: she supposedly made "racist" comments about the Chinese members according to someone on this site, yet two hours of searching for proof of this apparent "fact" on the Web turned up FUCK-ALL info no matter how I phrased it or how many synonyms I pulled out of my arse, which is strange considering that's the kind of bad publicity the gutter press there would LOVE to get hold of to make it look like "Oh, look everyone, it's Momusu's resident racist bitch!".
Now the REAL reason so many people hate Koharu so much: Tsunku made the mistake of calling her a "miracle", pushing her into the spotlight, giving her solo stuff, etc. It got people's expectations of her too high. Now when she messes up, or even appears to mess up, or is even RUMOURED to mess up, out come the talons. They seem to forget her only real "crime" was passing the audition. She didn't stick these labels on herself.
Is she my fave? NO! I'm just being fair (like you). She's alright. :)

Since everyone is comparing Koharu and Aika, I'll go ahead and put my two cents on the matter in. I actually like some of Koharu's solo stuff, and she's cute enough, but there is something about her that I just don't like. I loved Aika from the first time I saw her, and I think her voice sounds really good. She has a lot of talent.
Koharu & Aika aren't the best singers in H!P right now but atleast both of them are trying , people who talk bad about Koharu just don't see she's trying hard to be good. I know it isn't working for her but atleast she tries.
I love Aika's voice. It has alot of potential behind it, and with proper training it can turn into the next big voice in Morning Musume. When she speaks Yossy's dialogue in the beginning as well, she's amazingly good. You can also tell she loves performing. Hope you go far Mitsui!
This song is now officially Aika's, since Aika is the only member from Kansai at the moment. She naturally spoke in Kansai-ben so why not give her a song that's entirely in Kansai-ben? She does an EXCELLENT job at it too. Mitsui Aika--soloist in 2 years tops!

I think Mittsi's a downright sweetie. Koharu fans, sorry to break it to you, but even you have to admit that Mittsi's gone farther than Koharu in terms of voice and cuteness. Heck...Mittsi can actually hold a tune! So can LinLin and JunJun! The 8th Gen is wonderful, they actually have talent. I mean honestly speaking, have you seen and heard Mittsi in Mikan?!?! She's amazingly cute and her singing is terrific!

Apparently (and I'm sorry if this isn't accurate, because I saw this in the hello-online forum) Shige-san dislikes Koharu because Koharu is trying to take over in cuteness...but I don't want to bash Koharu. i really like Aika! She's better than Koharu by a mile...the whole rivalry thing makes me laugh...NO CONTEST! Plus, Aiki will actually sing live...Koharu lipsynced off and on for about a year after she joined...Aika is still fresh and new and i have yet to hear her lipsynch...YAY Aika!
I know!! It's really awesome. She recently got awarded the voice-acting role of Guro-san in Kirarin Revolution, and there's a clip of her saying the part (which is just "gurooo..guro" over and over, nothing special) but in it, her voice is really deep! It's so cool.

Eh, Koharu kinda scares me. Mittsi holds an innocence of cuteness that I think Koharu doesn't have. When Koharu smiles, she looks kind of manic to me, but when Mittsi smiles (especially when she does the :3 face) she looks very genuinely cute rather than like she's trying too hard.
Idols aren't tone deaf, in which Koharu apparently is. To put Koharu in the same category of "idol"...one that greats like Goto Maki, Matsuura Aya, Abe Natsumi, Fujimoto Miki carry...is just wrong.

MoMusu is pretty much doomed after Tanaka, Takahashi, Niigaki, and I'll even throw Kamei a bone here. If those four leave, there is no hope. We all know that Sayu couldn't save the group if she tried or Koha.

Sorry, even though this is a performance from last year, this is not the best that Aika can do. Lack luster performance, and I like her too. :-(

She's a member of Morning Musume(currently 9 members). The one in this video is a member, too. Kusumi Koharu is known for being really hyper, and having a bad voice(sorry Koha fans). A lot of people don't like her because she is given too many lines in songs and is put in the center a lot. She's also voices the main character in an anime. That's probably where she gained most of her popularity.

It's because like what Hoshiya said she is known as the "miracle girl" of de group and of course have to do slightly more solo lines i guess... even though i like her she seriously can't sing live. she gets way too nervous and ends up singing all de wrong pitch. i agree most other mm members have better voice than her, but she has to live up to de name tsunku gave her.

Like Ai, she heard that Tsunksu wrote down she had a quiet voice. She worked hard to correct that.
People say Koharu has a bad voice, she works hard like everybody else.

I know she didn't pick all of her places in it, but she just can't sing that well. And when she does actually sing live she always sings in a higher pitch then needs to. I just wish management would actually give her a lower pitched song. Because Pancake is one of the worst H!P songs ever.

It's so funny to see people getting so bent out of shape just because someone says one thing about Koharu that's true. You think Koha is the ONLY one that works hard in the group? Get real, dude! All the girls work hard!! But even before KR she still overdid stuff....people called it spastic, but it was still overkill.
Also everyone, don't forget that Koha is Aika's mentor so even though they are rivals I still think that they're good friends.

i agree with badatbeinggood about koharu and also another reason is because koharu pushes herself into the centre. first because of her looks and cuteness and shes a good public speaker for the group. i love mitsui from the first time, i think people comapre koharu to her so much is because they are the same age group and she is pushed to the back. Tsunku always forgets the talents into the group and sticks with one thing only. i think he should try to explore the memebers more.

...they're reasons based on hearsay (eg: she supposedly made "racist" comments about the Chinese members according to someone on this site, yet two hours of searching for proof of this apparent "fact" on the Web turned up FUCK-ALL info no matter how I phrased it or how many synonyms I pulled out of my arse, which is strange considering that's the kind of bad publicity the gutter press there would LOVE to get hold of to make it look like "Oh, look everyone, it's Momusu's resident racist bitch!".

Now the REAL reason so many people hate Koharu so much: Tsunku made the mistake of calling her a "miracle", pushing her into the spotlight, giving her solo stuff, etc. It got people's expectations of her too high. Now when she messes up, or even appears to mess up, or is even RUMOURED to mess up, out come the talons. They seem to forget her only real "crime" was passing the audition. She didn't stick these labels on herself.
Is she my fave? NO! I'm just being fair (like you). She's alright. :)

I think the reason she got that miracle label is she has an amazing memory , coupled with a very cute face . That gives her the ability to be assigned many different jobs at the same time and I think that's all he was really looking for. Us fans had different expectations.

Since everyone is comparing Koharu and Aika, I'll go ahead and put my two cents on the matter in. I actually like some of Koharu's solo stuff, and she's cute enough, but there is something about her that I just don't like. I loved Aika from the first time I saw her, and I think her voice sounds really good. She has a lot of talent.

Koharu & Aika aren't the best singers in H!P right now but atleast both of them are trying , people who talk bad about Koharu just don't see she's trying hard to be good. I know it isn't working for her but atleast she tries.

I love Aika's voice. It has alot of potential behind it, and with proper training it can turn into the next big voice in Morning Musume. When she speaks Yossy's dialogue in the beginning as well, she's amazingly good. You can also tell she loves performing. Hope you go far Mitsui!

This song is now officially Aika's, since Aika is the only member from Kansai at the moment. She naturally spoke in Kansai-ben so why not give her a song that's entirely in Kansai-ben? She does an EXCELLENT job at it too. Mitsui Aika--soloist in 2 years tops!
(and PLEASE, people, stop comparing Aika to Koharu. There's no comparison. Aika is an idol. Koharu is a windbag. Case closed.)

I think Mittsi's a downright sweetie. Koharu fans, sorry to break it to you, but even you have to admit that Mittsi's gone farther than Koharu in terms of voice and cuteness. Heck...Mittsi can actually hold a tune! So can LinLin and JunJun! The 8th Gen is wonderful, they actually have talent. I mean honestly speaking, have you seen and heard Mittsi in Mikan?!?! She's amazingly cute and her singing is terrific!

Apparently (and I'm sorry if this isn't accurate, because I saw this in the hello-online forum) Shige-san dislikes Koharu because Koharu is trying to take over in cuteness...but I don't want to bash Koharu. Maybe this is just the image Tsunku-san wants her to portray, or maybe she IS trying to hard on her own to be perfect.

i really like Aika! She's better than Koharu by a mile...the whole rivalry thing makes me laugh...NO CONTEST! Plus, Aiki will actually sing live...Koharu lipsynced off and on for about a year after she joined...Aika is still fresh and new and i have yet to hear her lipsynch...YAY Aika!

I know!! It's really awesome. She recently got awarded the voice-acting role of Guro-san in Kirarin Revolution, and there's a clip of her saying the part (which is just "gurooo..guro" over and over, nothing special) but in it, her voice is really deep! It's so cool.

But Koharu...is MUCH cuter than Aika. Something about her grin just doesn't sit well with me.
I know it sounds shallow, but if it came down to Mittsi or Kohachan, I'd pick Koha all the way just because she is so cute. She's the definition of idol.

Eh, Koharu kinda scares me. Mittsi holds an innocence of cuteness that I think Koharu doesn't have. When Koharu smiles, she looks kind of manic to me, but when Mittsi smiles (especially when she does the :3 face) she looks very genuinely cute rather than like she's trying too hard.

Idols aren't tone deaf, in which Koharu apparently is. To put Koharu in the same category of "idol"...one that greats like Goto Maki, Matsuura Aya, Abe Natsumi, Fujimoto Miki carry...is just wrong.

Actually, Mittsi is cuter, i'm not saying Koha is uncute, but Aika is cuter. And you can't call Koharu the definition of idol. An idol HAS to be able to sing too. Because of Sayu and Koha, people think that an idol just needs cuteness. It's not true, singing talent is one of the most important things.
