First of all, people with OCPD doesnt necessarily be exactly like she describes, and not have all these "bad traits" such as unwillingness to give away things, and let other people do things.
Also, please note that OCPD is more of a PERSONALITY than a true disorder, and is "easier to cure" than OCD. Please read online instead about it, rather than watching this video, the more you will read about whatever you are interested about, the better you will understand it.
@Bamseskutt - OCPD is a character disorder. There is NO cure. Like all character disorders, these people lack integrity, they are only know what they want and they aim to get it. Giving always indicates a hidden agenda. Love secrets. They are stlited, rigid, cold, not fun to be with. They seek control over EVERYTHING. Love to write rule books and hide behind them and throw stones at everyone else. Hence, their love of punishing "sinners". They are puritanical tyrants and huge BULLIES.
@TheJasonDR As an ISTJ I take issue with this erroneous characterization. Please provide an email address so that I may send you a five-page refutation of your baseless claims.
@TheJasonDR I remember I had some meaning to it, and at first I thought it was "I'm an INTJ and I don't dislike ISTJ's", but that wasnt it. So I don't know.
Is there an Autism and OCPD connection? Rigidity is an Autistic trait and I was just curious if Autism can morph into OCPD later in life. Anyone, Anyone?? Bueller?
@gmccord1970 Not likely. Autism is a communication disorder where as OCPD is like... a rigid perfectionism and obsession with "process" and "procedure". OCPD should be renamed Perfectionistic Personality Disorder.
OCD and avoidant personality are frequently connected, and so often overlooked as associated with comorbid ADHD... your viewers might be interested in this different view of avoidant personality, treated correctly with stimulant meds, not SSRIs,
WTF is wrong with wanting things in order! As long as it doesn't interfere with your life. These diagnosis are just ways to get people onto medication!!!
@DRDNIBOY Not everyone who has the disorder goes on medication. Some go into behavioral therapy and get control. I personally am not on any medication and refuse to do so. : )
@DRDNIBOY I strongly disagree with you. OCPD causes the following: relationship problems because the significant other can't handle the constant rigid routines and being criticized; work problems where they can actually become very UNproductive due to spending so much time on details that they can't finish the project by a deadline. I used to work with someone like this. He would spend so much time revising that his work just snowballed.
Wow, I was diagnosed OCD & Borderline PD. Now I have something I can really relate to right here. I think I was wrongly diagnosed. This sounds like me to a T.
This is a really helpful video. I know someone who hasn't been diagnosed, but I very much suspect is OCPD. I have OCD myself and at first I thought she was OCD, but she seemed to enjoy the rituals very much instead of hating them so this video help give me more clues! Thank you!
Why are these characteristics considered bad? Isn’t this just an efficient way to live? I dislike people doing things for me because people for the most part are lazy and try to take short cuts. This has nothing to do with me believing that an individual is incapable of doing a good job. It would probably do the world good to declassify this “disorder” and reclassify it as a virtue. The world would be a more efficient place if more possessed quality characteristics like these.
@greetingsearthlings1 It's bad because they overly do this. They'll sort their socks for hours and enjoy it. It takes up their lives and keeps them from living in the real world.
@greetingsearthlings1 efficient is not what it is about. they can spend hours perfecting something and allow that to ruin plans for leaving the house. My wife will spend 3 hours sweeping and cleaning a patio in the fall, only to have leaves fall on it the same day. It is a warped sense of priority and life or living isn't a real part of their reality. On the other hand I do think the corporate world likes the organizational skills of OCPD ppl... just don't marry one.
@greetingsearthlings1 Yeah, it's a "virtue" to be a controlling asshole. That's why real people want to lynch you retards -- we're just jealous of how "virtuous" you are. Sure, that's it.
@tonypar9 ... You take the words right out of my mouth. - However, it is being used ... to the advantage of those who have some kind of position that gives them power over others, and against those who don't fit into the standard definition of what is "normal" (read: "good"). It is really sad to see this tendency to label everybody grow, the norm become more rigid for each new label they create, even though they do it to be versatile. Sadly ironic!
@tonypar9 I think you are right. Its okay to become aware of behavioral traits you may have and why you may have them, but we are disserving and even stilting people by giving them rigid labels that often dont fit or fit completely. The sad part is that people who accept these labels often have little hope for themselves because they cant see themselves outside of the narrow label description. And harsh, overly clinical psychiatrists, like this woman, makes one`s outlook even worse.
That's pretty much the story of my life. I think it's funny my only motivation for overcoming it is to achieve greater perfection. I have ocpd and i can be a good friend. As I tend to be super loyal regardless of the fact that i'm a jackass. I'll defend my friends to the grave as long as they don't betray me. It's really amazing though how much of my life is defined by this.
Just a few comments...

@Digiscat ISTJ- Putin, George Washington or Heinrich Himmler__INTJ ----------- Charles Krauthhammer, John Malkovich

@TheJasonDR My favorite INTJ would be Hannibal Lecter. Though this is irrelevant, as I didn't ask about any ISTJ's or INTJ's

@coffeefreelady As she said OCD and OCPD are two different things. OCPD is a personality disorder, OCD is not, it is a separate mental illness.
