  • i love how the original ad said 15ms-4s, and it actually goes to 550ms

  • Legendary pedal.

  • K yall I have a line 6 l4 but I am seriously considering selling it to pick up one of these. I really love this analog sound way more. Is that the wise choice?

  • @amaxlazer depends on what you want from a delay. I have 2 line 6's b/c they're sooo easy to use and offer many different settings and options, but I'm also really debating getting one of these just for the longer washed out delay settings, it's just super hard to beat the sound out this thing. Ultimately, comes down to what you're using it for and if you'll be changing your delay settings much.

  • do they still sell these? or ahve they been replaced by the XO series?

  • I'm convinced there is no better analog delay pedal

  • @Hesthewizeguy

Aqua Puss is easily as good IMO

Otherwise me tape echo owns them all

  • @Hesthewizeguy I agree. I have one of these, and I've tried so many others but this is the best as far as I'm concerned!

  • To me this one sounds better than the new one

  • I'd sell my boss ce 300 rack unit for this

  • What amp was this used with?

  • i don't know why but when i hear this pedal i feel pity for mxr carbon copy

  • 2:57 - the only pedal with the R2D2 effect

  • so, if i wanted to do more of a dreamy atmospheric kind of thing...what delay should i get? this one seems more for like "The Edge" kind of sound...and the XO seems nice..but i also don't want to limit myself to just EHX...

  • I just got a 70's memory man delay and its the most beautiful dreamy sound ive ever heard for a delay pedal :D

  • My god if hendrix was around to see this this he would definatly use it! these pdels are one of a kind! they work great with tube amps too

  • I wired mine into my own pdeal board, linked to a phase shifter and an Electric Mistress. YEARS old but still punchy.

  • What's the title of the first song he played?

  • @19MaciekW94 Andy used to improvise more in those times.

  • Hey guys, I have this exact DMM from 2 years now and I'm having some problems with it....the pedal used to overload when I put the feedback knob at 12 o'clock but now it kinda does earlier like at 10, causing a lot of unwanted noise. The repetitions are less clear and the volume tend to jump from one to another. In the final stages of the repetition you can hear some weird distorted sounds underneath. It just feels strange, its not working the way it used to be.

What do you think it could be?

  • @lasfinisimas Sounds like it needs to be re-calibrated,

  • @lasfinisimas No idea, but you should do what I'd do and experiment with it haha. If that's your style.

  • @lasfinisimas get your pots cleaned

  • anybody knows how to play a chord, and than make it loop itself over and over?

like eric johnson does at live when he play cliffs of dover at the introes

  • @TheDarkbite buy a boss rc-2. theyre a pretty cheap, good looper.

and READ ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS! haha

  • @TheDarkbite crank the repeat knob, but be careful because there's a chance it could start self-oscillating and go crazy on you

  • @TheDarkbite Eric Johnson uses the "hold" function on his MXR 1500 rack delay for that loop effect. Boss and Line 6 delay units can do that hold effect as well.

  • IS THIS PEDAL DISCOTINUED???

    Someone answer Please!!

  • @jaimico777 unfortunately yes, these were discontinued last year or perhaps 2008, can't remember. Still pretty easy to buy used, the latest "bigbox" version is supposed to be identical (Soundwise) with the new DMM XO version, but there is some disagreement about this. I have both and think the XO does deliver the typical DMM sound, even if there is a noticeable difference, especially with clean or crunch settings.

  • @jaimico777 yes

  • @jaimico777 I do not think so, but eBay has 100s of them.

  • What amp are you playing through ?

  • pure U2

  • @MrV1C7OR it's the favourite pedal of the edge, watch it might get loud movie ;)

  • can you isolate the delay on this pedal?

  • i've owned my memory man for 4 years, the only thing that comes close is an echoplex or an old space echo

  • I was lucky to get mine for $199 6 months ago. Now they go for $400 on ebay. 0.o

  • @andy92811

I got my mine today for 125 at a local guitar shop. It's pretty sick, the only two things that suck is the chorus doesn't work and it pretty ugly on the outside, but I have a memory man now.

  • 2:50

  • It's a shame I love EHX but they make a shit product now. I got the last one of these bad boys before they ran out.

  • such a shame they stopped making cool pedals.

  • is this better than the way huge aqua-puss? give me your opinion.

  • this is an echo pedal, or delay pedal?

  • Is it in true Bypass? Or just the new XO one? Can't get that information in the web.

  • It's not true bypass and the worst thing is it is one ruthless tone sucker when off. However there is a Direct Out gate so you can get/make a simple bypass switch and override it in a mini-loop this way.Still my favourite pedal though!

  • Comment removed

  • depends on how the first owner treated the pedal

  • why does everyone want tap tempo these days? lazy pricks... its about the tone.. and this delay sounds amazing

  • @LeeavAccordian Rhythm is king, my friend.

  • Andy Timmons uses the same delay settings for almost all of his songs. And from what I know, he is good at playing rhythm.

  • agreed....a lot of digital pedals with tap tempo have really crappy delay..

  • I wish this pedal had tap tempo....

  • check out the memory boy deluxe, just released, that has tap tempo

  • I love the sound of the delay getting darker as it warbles. I wish there were cheaper pedals with that effect and long delay times.

  • Check out the BYOC Digital Echo with Ping Pong - 800ms delay analog voiced

  • This or the Eventide TimeFactor?

  • totally different animals. memory man is rad. Sounds awesome, but no tap tempo.... I say go with the Damage Control Timeline.

  • check the Vox Time Machine. fantastic pedal, literally any delay sound you could want, with tap tempo and two voices and two modes for each voice, all for $200

  • This is amazing!

  • I wonder if it's possible to have just the Chorus or Vibrato running, without echo... ?

  • watch at 3:00 he does it there

  • hey, what is the name of the song in the beginning of the video?

is it The Black Keys ?

    thanks

  • but idk it either. :P

  • It's probably U2

  • I have this pedal and WOW!!!

  • Quick question....Electro Harmonix Memory Man or the Memory Man with the Hazari?

  • depends on what you want...analog delay or digital delay (the memory man with hazarai is digital)

  • memory boy. its cheaper, sounds better and doesnt take up half your board :)

  • Can you turn the modulation off?

  • @ arpraron:

Yes, you can, just turn the dial completely down. This will also increase your standard delay time.

  • will it sound good with Peavey Classic 50?

  • @Virisken1991 yes

  • Damn, pedals like this make me wish I had money.

  • @johanthepirate Sad but true....

  • i wish they still made these, i hate the xo series, no character to the pedals anymore

  • They're cutting their costs, but not our price!

  • @TacooGrill Heck yes! I agree completely! Besides that, it's really difficult to find any of the old Deluxe Memory Man.

  • @sonofgod316 check out ebay man there a quite a few on there!

  • @TacooGrill I have a few of both, no problem to get the "big box" character from the XO.

  • @TacooGrill damn straight

  • @TacooGrill same circuits, but yeah the bigger ones look cooler

  • @44eelz They aren't the exact same circuits. The XO series uses surface mount components.

The older models are MUCH easier to fix/mod. The XO series is nearly impossible.

  • @Xevamir nope.

    talk to analogman.

  • @Xevamir really? whats surface mount? i dont know alot about electronics

  • @44eelz the parts are all mounted directly to the circuitboard. Open up any mxr pedal and youll see what i mean.

  • @TacooGrill well i got my mem man of ebay, so all is not lost.

  • @TacooGrill You can find one of the late 90's re-issues for a reasonable price. They still sound pretty nice

  • I love this delay. With Analogman mod's it is great.

  • this sounds terrible in comparison to a vintage one.

I have one without the wall wart and it sounds sooo much warmer and inviting than this pedal.

  • anyone know what song he plays at 3:10?

  • is there a pedal like that just w/o the delay? i don't need that..

  • You mean the chorus effect? Just get a chorus pedal, lots of options for that

  • Whats the song that plays at the beginning?

  • for live use wouldnt the trex replica or the carl martin echotone be far more practical say if you want to have a slapback for blues ,country and surf type playing and be able to do u2 like stuff as well without having to mess with controls on stage??? im also looking at carbon copy. only thing is the carl martin and the trex are digital

  • this chassis or the new small one?

  • Old chassis completely. New one uses shitty chip. Old one has classic panasonic chip.

  • This one. It has the old chip. It's discontinued: get one while it lasts!!!

  • This one by far.

  • How do you think this compares to MXR carbon copy analog delay? I dont really need the chorus/vibrato setting, (fulltone deja vibe) but ut is kind of a cool metalic sound-

  • The chorus and vibrato settings on the Memory Man are there to emulate the flutter of a tape delay. This type of chorus/vibe is way different than your deja vibe. But the MXR Carbon Copy has a chorus modulation too. I have the MXR but wanna upgrade to this. the MXR is a great delay though.

  • a properly running tape echo does not flutter.

  • The Carbon Copy is half the price and is a fantastic delay (I own one). I would say the Deluxe Memory Man is better and it is up to you to decide whether it is $300 good or not.

  • This pedal has a much brighter sound than the mxr carbon copy, which IMO is pretty dark.

  • This is the best one by far worlds best delay

  • Whats your thoughts about the hazarai one compared to this?

  • it's a totally different pedal

  • Hi man, great demo!

Does this unit mount two MN3005? I hear it is moore silencious than my DMM(an old one).

    Thanks!

  • i love you guys. you have pedals for every pedal i look up.

  • DMM by EHX or DD7 by BOSS ????

  • memory man all the way the dd7 is too sterile.

  • DMM or Maxon Ad-999?

  • The memory man has a lot more versatility, but if your board lacks space, get the ad999 (another great pedal). The ad999 has 900ms of delay while this has only 550ms, so if long delay times are important, get the ad999. But i truly recommend the memory man. even get the smaller one if you have to. ;)

  • DMM, RE-20 Space Echo or Carbon Copy?? Witch one is better?

  • DMM.

  • Well... Space Echo is a beauty pedal, very vintage... Great for all styles

  • For some reason, this one sounds a bit nicer than the XO. The XO demo sounded like the delays were distorting a bit too early. Either way, great demo.

  • this one its better than the one with hazarai?or which its the diference?

  • can't compare the two at all.

  • sure you can.

    hazarai is digital

    DMM is analog

  • omar rodriguez-lopez

  • I wish when they did these delay demos that they wouldn't always put the number of repeats at friggin 9000000. I mean, that's just not practical for the regular guitarist. I like an analog sound, but I only want maybe 3-4 repeats max. Also, I heard these pedals can be linked together to get more delay time. Is this true or no? Just wondering. But come one Proguitar, enough with the thousand repeat crap, use it like a normal player would to get an ambiant sound.

  • I agree man.

Not everyone wants to be The Edge.

  • I think you need to watch more than the first 30s bro. The majority of the time he's only using a few repeats especially with the modulation. no you can't link them for more time it would be like a dual delay

  • electro harmonix is releasing a new layout i like the old layout better

  • memory man by far space echo is gash trust

  • Boss Re 20 space echo or Memory Man? what do ya guys think? i mean the type of echo i mainly use is a slap back type. sometimes i use crazy delay sounds for sound effects. Which should i get guys?

  • I'd definitely get the memory man! It can do the things you mention really well, and it's not an emulation of something else it's its own thing. Plus it just sounds awesome and it's really versatile too!

  • omar from mars volta uses this pedal to get his vibrato tone thats used in most TMV songs

  • doesnt he use the poly chorus for his vibrato?

  • like what parts on which songs? Is that slow part on Tetragrammaton at 5:55 one of them?

  • Yep exactly, and like 10,000 other songs, Omar has the vibrato on all the time, even in ATDI

I'm listening to Cavalettas and i just heard it at 8:12. Its alll over TMV and Omar's solo albums

  • COOL! I want one!

  • i love that band!

  • 4:13 - 4:40 I hear Godspeed You ! Black Emperor :)

  • Is there a difference between the one that comes in the wooden box opposed to the one in the cardboard box? Something about Japanese chips vs chines/korean chips?

  • are the comp;laints that it is very noisey/ hissy, true?

  • NO... nooooo, hells no, Deluxe Memory Man sounds soooo sweet, mine doesn't hiss at all

  • whats the song in the beginning called

  • I want one so bad but they're damn expensive

  • Will the XO-sized version (currently available in Europe) become available in the USA?

  • Not likely, according to the good folks of the EHX Forums :(

  • besides size, what other differences does the xo has?

  • I need one of these to play U2 songs

  • you need twenty of these, 4 TC 2290s, a Boss Bi fet preamp, 18 Vox AC30s, and a Gibson Explorer

  • Get a Boss DD-20 instead..an excellent unit. That's what I use for U2.

  • is the riff at 2:30 improvised or is it a real one?

Cause I thought I recognised it from somewhere.

  • I'm demoing the Deluxe Memory Man right now. Its warm tone is amazing through my tube amp. I'm returning it, though, because its nearly impossible to emulate settings from session to session. Its great for the jam room, but its not stage friendly with its dials being difficult to adjust perfectly. I'm sad, but I'm going digital with T.C. Electronics Nova Delay and resigning to a tone like The Edge's.

  • this this is a total jam.

  • Is that a U2 song being played at the beginning? Or just the Edge-like riffing?

  • Man this is my dream pedal. I'm saving up for this baby.

  • I like the EH pedals but they're so fucking big. This thing looks like a fucking mail box.

  • Can you break this pedal/the polychorus when the LED light announces the feedback is very high?

  • No ;)

  • This thing is cool. I bought a vintage one, the one with the blue color from, I think, the 80's.

  • every clip I have heard with the DMM has a steely sound that I really do not like , totally ruins it for me unfortunately. 8-(

  • Will I be able to get most of these sounds out of the memory man with hazarai? Because I love parts of this, and parts of the hazarai! :S

  • NO! the micro mem man with hazarai is NOTHING like this pedal...the shit under the hood of that fucker is WAY closer to a recent DOD or Boss pedal...and it is NOT an analog....seriously it's TOTALLY digital pedal.

The REAL mem man deluxe is WAY better.

  • Nope, this one is analog, MMwH is digital.

  • i wish more pedals had user memorie settings

  • is it just me or does this make you dizzy?

  • Hey PGS what are some good delay pedals for hi-gain guitar solos? I played the MM with Hazarai but the distortion made it sound bad, it may have just been the setting but I don't know.

  • for high gain i've always thought a good digital delay is the best way forward

  • Have you ever tried your amp loop?

  • Yeah it clears up distortion.

  • hey this is a great pedal but i dont have 315$ :( good investment though but can you guys please demo the ehx polychorus :) thanks again for showing us if these pedals are worth the money and how to use the pedal and what to expect from it

  • ack, you actually got the chorus to sound nice, I'm gonna take that setting from you

  • And yes, finally got this pedal. I highly recommend modding it to true-bypass, that definitely solves the pre-amp problem and makes the pedal even more usable than before.

  • I've heard that mod creates a huge volume difference between the bypass and effected signal, is this true?

  • Nope. Depends on how you set the level and the blend. Trust me, this pedal is worth every penny.

  • So if the pedal is off, it causes sound or what? I have a Line 6 DL4 Delay and I am disappointed that its not loud enough, it doesnt kick hard, and the digital delay sucks.

  • Digital delay isn't bad per se. Poorly executed digital is crap, but so is poorly executed analog delay :-)

  • truedat

  • If the pedal is off, it adds color and sound, yeah. It isn't true bypass, so that's why I had it modded. The actual volume of the pedal is the 3rd red stripe of the 'level knob'. That might help. When I disengage it now, it's the exact same volume. It's not required to true bypass it, it doesn't add horrible color but the pre-amp in this pedal is why I had it modded. This pedal is to good not to have. It's my all time favorite delay.

  • This pedal should have a separate footswitch for chorus and delay.

  • im agree with you, but still is a great pedal ;)

  • Do you have it? I want it but I'm not sure it's worth the money. is it?

  • i was thinking if you guys can do an analog delay shootout, w/ a memory man, a maxon ad-999, and a Diamond Pedals Memory Lane Analog Delay. nice demo as usual!

  • hmmm.. what what do you think,

    should i get this delay,

    or something else

i want something pink floydy or a bit trippy.

if theirs a better delay that you think i should have a look at please tell me.

  • price range? if the memory man's in your price range, go for it. Otherwise, if you're looking for something a bit cheaper, go for the MXR Carbon Copy. The Modulation button adds a bit of chorus to simulate more of a tape echo sound.

  • the carbon copy is cheaper but which (memory or carbon) do u think would give the best delay for soloing?

  • hmmm.. what what do you think,

    should i get this delay,

    or something else

i want something pink floydy or a bit trippy.

if theirs a better delay that you think i should have a look at please tell me.
