K yall I have a line 6 l4 but I am seriously considering selling it to pick up one of these. I really love this analog sound way more. Is that the wise choice?
@amaxlazer depends on what you want from a delay. I have 2 line 6's b/c they're sooo easy to use and offer many different settings and options, but I'm also really debating getting one of these just for the longer washed out delay settings, it's just super hard to beat the sound out this thing. Ultimately, comes down to what you're using it for and if you'll be changing your delay settings much.
so, if i wanted to do more of a dreamy atmospheric kind of thing...what delay should i get? this one seems more for like "The Edge" kind of sound...and the XO seems nice..but i also don't want to limit myself to just EHX...
Hey guys, I have this exact DMM from 2 years now and I'm having some problems with it....the pedal used to overload when I put the feedback knob at 12 o'clock but now it kinda does earlier like at 10, causing a lot of unwanted noise. The repetitions are less clear and the volume tend to jump from one to another. In the final stages of the repetition you can hear some weird distorted sounds underneath. It just feels strange, its not working the way it used to be.
@TheDarkbite Eric Johnson uses the "hold" function on his MXR 1500 rack delay for that loop effect. Boss and Line 6 delay units can do that hold effect as well.
@jaimico777 unfortunately yes, these were discontinued last year or perhaps 2008, can't remember. Still pretty easy to buy used, the latest "bigbox" version is supposed to be identical (Soundwise) with the new DMM XO version, but there is some disagreement about this. I have both and think the XO does deliver the typical DMM sound, even if there is a noticeable difference, especially with clean or crunch settings.
I got my mine today for 125 at a local guitar shop. It's pretty sick, the only two things that suck is the chorus doesn't work and it pretty ugly on the outside, but I have a memory man now.
It's not true bypass and the worst thing is it is one ruthless tone sucker when off. However there is a Direct Out gate so you can get/make a simple bypass switch and override it in a mini-loop this way.Still my favourite pedal though!
check the Vox Time Machine. fantastic pedal, literally any delay sound you could want, with tap tempo and two voices and two modes for each voice, all for $200
for live use wouldnt the trex replica or the carl martin echotone be far more practical say if you want to have a slapback for blues ,country and surf type playing and be able to do u2 like stuff as well without having to mess with controls on stage??? im also looking at carbon copy. only thing is the carl martin and the trex are digital
How do you think this compares to MXR carbon copy analog delay? I dont really need the chorus/vibrato setting, (fulltone deja vibe) but ut is kind of a cool metalic sound-
The chorus and vibrato settings on the Memory Man are there to emulate the flutter of a tape delay. This type of chorus/vibe is way different than your deja vibe. But the MXR Carbon Copy has a chorus modulation too. I have the MXR but wanna upgrade to this. the MXR is a great delay though.
The Carbon Copy is half the price and is a fantastic delay (I own one). I would say the Deluxe Memory Man is better and it is up to you to decide whether it is $300 good or not.
The memory man has a lot more versatility, but if your board lacks space, get the ad999 (another great pedal). The ad999 has 900ms of delay while this has only 550ms, so if long delay times are important, get the ad999. But i truly recommend the memory man. even get the smaller one if you have to. ;)
For some reason, this one sounds a bit nicer than the XO. The XO demo sounded like the delays were distorting a bit too early. Either way, great demo.
I wish when they did these delay demos that they wouldn't always put the number of repeats at friggin 9000000. I mean, that's just not practical for the regular guitarist. I like an analog sound, but I only want maybe 3-4 repeats max. Also, I heard these pedals can be linked together to get more delay time. Is this true or no? Just wondering. But come one Proguitar, enough with the thousand repeat crap, use it like a normal player would to get an ambiant sound.
I think you need to watch more than the first 30s bro. The majority of the time he's only using a few repeats especially with the modulation. no you can't link them for more time it would be like a dual delay
Boss Re 20 space echo or Memory Man? what do ya guys think? i mean the type of echo i mainly use is a slap back type. sometimes i use crazy delay sounds for sound effects. Which should i get guys?
I'd definitely get the memory man! It can do the things you mention really well, and it's not an emulation of something else it's its own thing. Plus it just sounds awesome and it's really versatile too!
Is there a difference between the one that comes in the wooden box opposed to the one in the cardboard box? Something about Japanese chips vs chines/korean chips?
I'm demoing the Deluxe Memory Man right now. Its warm tone is amazing through my tube amp. I'm returning it, though, because its nearly impossible to emulate settings from session to session. Its great for the jam room, but its not stage friendly with its dials being difficult to adjust perfectly. I'm sad, but I'm going digital with T.C. Electronics Nova Delay and resigning to a tone like The Edge's.
NO! the micro mem man with hazarai is NOTHING like this pedal...the shit under the hood of that fucker is WAY closer to a recent DOD or Boss pedal...and it is NOT an analog....seriously it's TOTALLY digital pedal.
Hey PGS what are some good delay pedals for hi-gain guitar solos? I played the MM with Hazarai but the distortion made it sound bad, it may have just been the setting but I don't know.
hey this is a great pedal but i dont have 315$ :( good investment though but can you guys please demo the ehx polychorus :) thanks again for showing us if these pedals are worth the money and how to use the pedal and what to expect from it
And yes, finally got this pedal. I highly recommend modding it to true-bypass, that definitely solves the pre-amp problem and makes the pedal even more usable than before.
So if the pedal is off, it causes sound or what? I have a Line 6 DL4 Delay and I am disappointed that its not loud enough, it doesnt kick hard, and the digital delay sucks.
If the pedal is off, it adds color and sound, yeah. It isn't true bypass, so that's why I had it modded. The actual volume of the pedal is the 3rd red stripe of the 'level knob'. That might help. When I disengage it now, it's the exact same volume. It's not required to true bypass it, it doesn't add horrible color but the pre-amp in this pedal is why I had it modded. This pedal is to good not to have. It's my all time favorite delay.
i was thinking if you guys can do an analog delay shootout, w/ a memory man, a maxon ad-999, and a Diamond Pedals Memory Lane Analog Delay. nice demo as usual!
price range? if the memory man's in your price range, go for it. Otherwise, if you're looking for something a bit cheaper, go for the MXR Carbon Copy. The Modulation button adds a bit of chorus to simulate more of a tape echo sound.
i love how the original ad said 15ms-4s, and it actually goes to 550ms

If the pedal is off, it adds color and sound, yeah. It isn't true bypass, so that's why I had it modded. The actual volume of the pedal is the 3rd red stripe of the 'level knob'. That might help. When I disengage it now, it's the exact same volume. It's not required to true bypass it, it doesn't add horrible color but the pre-amp in this pedal is why I had it modded. This pedal is to good not to have. It's my all time favorite delay.

This pedal should have a separate footswitch for chorus and delay.

i was thinking if you guys can do an analog delay shootout, w/ a memory man, a maxon ad-999, and a Diamond Pedals Memory Lane Analog Delay. nice demo as usual!

price range? if the memory man's in your price range, go for it. Otherwise, if you're looking for something a bit cheaper, go for the MXR Carbon Copy. The Modulation button adds a bit of chorus to simulate more of a tape echo sound.

the carbon copy is cheaper but which (memory or carbon) do u think would give the best delay for soloing?
