The immigrant/house issue, astounds me, I dont mean this in a positive or negative way but of course immigrant are taking up houses; there not all living on the streets! The government has not reponded good enough in terms of building more houses for any price band.,which probably contributes to the insanly high cost.

I'm am skeptical of immigration, but it is a simple fact that immigration levels have made the problem with the housing market, be it private or council, worse.

@JustB3NJI There are many empty and unused houses which have not been refurbished or replaced, like you said the issue is that the Government hasn't made enough houses available. If someone lives and works here legally they are entitled to buy or rent a house, if they apply for council houses they are subject to the same procedures as everyone else. One thing that needs to be made clear is that asylum seekers (not actually immigrants I know) do not make the housing situation worse at all.

@EbsNhexz I get what you are saying, but immigration has made the problem worse, due to the simple fact that had no one come to live here in the last 15 years there would at least 2.5 million less people/families needing a home. That is not an attack on immigration but impact it has had on a stagnating but increasingly costly housing market. The extra 10 million that now live here over the last 15 years or so create more competition in the market meaning prices do need to be as competitive.

@JustB3NJI I should have been clear from the start, before the financial crisis investment and generation of credit was centred around the housing market. The smaller number of houses on the market and the higher the population, the higher the prices and the more credit the banks generated.They deliberately caused under supply for profit, if immigration was zero..they would just let more houses lie derelict until under supply was achieved.

@JustB3NJI And we have been burdened with inflated house prices and less chance of generating the income to afford them. It was the pursuit of credit and it's inevitable collapse which caused the housing problem.But people blame immigrants for it, if we didn't have immigrants we would still have a housing shortage and we would have found another scapegoat... we would also be worse of with no immigration we would lose a solid workforce and 2bill net profit.
