  • The most beautiful rendition of this aria I have ever heard. It makes the efforts of the early music crowd seem distorted and absurd. Truly one of the most gorgeous contralto voices ever heard.

  • La meilleure que j'aie entendue à ce jour.

  • I loved her and heard her here in Chicago many times.

  • mmmm babana <3

  • Just amazing!

  • Magnificent! R.I.P., Maureen Forrester.

  • a magnificent version of a marbellous piece of music

  • That accompaniment is breathtaking. And, what high notes !

  • Did not know that Maureen Forrester had died! RIP

  • This piece is the Handel's masterpiece!!! Absolutely.

  • does anyone know where i could find the Aria Di Romilda?

  • What a voice! What a lady! I have about every recording she made and numerous recordings of other contralto's...her's is among the greatest!

  • I like to see the score with the music, exactly coordinated.

  • SOOOO Sad, but this is so fitting and a wonderful tribute to THE Diva. Thank you for posting.

  • Haendel with her is so great. If by any chance somebody will have the aria Crude furie from Xerxes and put it on youtube, it is something with the vocalisation!

  • A Canadian treasure! May Maureen rest in eternal peace and beauty! Thank you for all the joy you have given to me, through your warmth and great artistry! I met you once and I will never forget your kindness to me and your hearty laugh!

May eternal light shine upon you, dear soul! Dwell always in loveliness and grace!

  • I'm a CBC Radio 2 listener and it certainly made the headlines there and on Radio 1. The full hour devoted to her on Tempo on Thursday is probably on a podcast or will be aired again some time. I listened to it mountain time and then again pacific time. Such a voice. (I guess I was so preoccupied I completely and gladly missed the nonsense of the sorry young miss.)

  • Maureen Forrester's death doesn't make the headlines but Lindsy Lohan's latest stupidity does. This world must be coming to an end!

  • Sorry, I meant "Lindsay".

  • @gerardsatamian Amen !

  • @gerardsatamian Don't fret too much. The world has always been like this, even during the times of Handel, Bach and Beethoven.

  • Plenty of feeling in this performance. Beautiful!

  • I'm listening to Maureen Forrester singing Johannes Brahms' Alto Rhapsody with tears in my eyes. "I love singing; it's part of me. I just love singing," she said in the documentary Diva in Winter. What a blessing for us that she did.

  • Truly a Canadian legend, a brilliant voice and an amazing talent! When I was just a little kid, I was completely turned on to opera because of this great lady. Her role of the witch in Hansel and Gretel made me a life time fan!

  • Rest In Peace, dear lady. You will be missed.

  • She will be missed.

  • I take constant inspiration from this wondrous contralto. For anyone who is new to her, a quick read of her Wiki bio might be informative.

  • I knew this song in the movie.Dangerous Liasons.I loved.

  • Che splendida voce, e che nobiltà!

  • bravissimo controtenore!

  • @verdepastello It's a woman singing. Not a countertenor.

  • absolutely stunning

  • Maureen Forrester had a very distinguished career and was regarded as one of the best contraltos to ever come out of Canada (or anywhere else) appeared with some of the greatest conductors of the 20th century. She was often referred to as Canadian Gold. Her recordings of Handel operas and oratorios on the Mercury & Westminster labels are legendary.

  • La primera vez que la escuché fue en un registro que compré, el de Julio Cesar de Haendel, y su voz me impactó...

Este video me recrea la gran calidad y calidez de su voz...

  • muito louco! nota 10 !

  • Excellent performance of the excellent and almost unknown contralto!Thank you for posting it.

  • Awesome! The finest female opera singer ever produced by Canada. Maureen we love you as much as you love us,and you have done us proud all these many years. Brava! TY.

  • C'est si beau! Je ne connaissais pas Maureen Forrester, je suis tombé dessus en cherchant les lieder de Gustav Mahler. Je l'ai trouvée sublime dans Urlicht.

It is absolutely fantastic. I didn't know Maureen Forrester before. I came across her while looking for some lieders by Gustav Malher, I find her absolutely incredible.

Je ne connaissais pas Ombra mai fu non plus, donc, tous mes remerciements pour l'avoir postée.

    See You!

  • I really like this version. Well done, and thanks for posting!

  • Wonderful performance of the singer and the orchestra. Thanks for that and the info.

  • A gorgeous singer, of which recordings are pretty hard to come by around these parts. Thank you so much for sharing.

  • awesome voice!! go maureen!!

  • nice version, she looks a little scary though, and I completely admit that's an immature comment

  • She is one of the most charming people I've ever met, funny, tender and motherly. She is also my favorite singer.
