They have one in the lab at the hospital I work at. Ours has an antenna & makes little electronic beeps & "dinging" sounds. It also talks to you. Today at work I was standing in it's way & it made a sarcastic comment to me!!!!!
It sat there for s few seconds then said "I must be invisible". :-D

It has a series of active scanning lasers at the bottom constantly scanning for "temporary objects", as well as SONAR discs. When it encounters an object it's not familiar with, it first calculates the fastest route around it to the next goal, and tries that. If the temporary obstruction prevents that, it will wait for a specified period of time for the object to move. If that doesn't work, it can call you on any iPhone and let you know that it's stuck, and give you the map of where it is.

How does it avoid abjects such as stretchers? How well does it navigate when the environment is dynamic (e.g., people are walking around, chairs' and tables' locations are moved, etc.)?
