I'm signed in as Spin2Weave but I'm also Rally judge. No, you can't touch the dog in the ring when giving the signal or to help/make it go down or it will be HE points off up to IP. But, when training you will help the dog all you need to. The "Moving Down" is now called the Stop and Down in AKC but is still the same exercise - just new name. There is also the Moving Down Walk around in Excellent which is somewhat the same but you walk around the dog and can't stop when giving the down.
Ruthann, from this video, it appears that it is acceptable for the dog to 'sit into' the down position. Like the first dog in this video did. Is that correct?
