The greatest piece of music ever written. So complete, so divine, mere words fail to describe it. No one but Mozart could make an "Amen" last 40 seconds in a way that makes you wish, he had made it last 10 minutes. Mozart - Gratias Agimus Tibi
I FEEL LIKE I HAVE BEEN SAVED ALREADY TO BE CLOSE TO THE THRONE OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. I USE TO HEAR THIS GLORIA ALL DAY LONG WHILE WORKING IN MY HOUSE. NATEETAN 1000 BRAIZL. SUPERB, EXTRAORDINARY, FANTASTIC AND DIVINE FEELING. OH GOD I CAN FEEL YOUR PRESENCE INSIDE OF MY SPIRIT.
The best music, made by the best ever composer, in a mass celebrated by a great Pope and musicaly directed by a great director, performed by an incredible orchestra & amazing choruses! A perfect moment for the glory of God. Ah, amigos, y esto no es una canción, es una pieza que hace parte de una misa de Mozart (la de Coronación); llamarle canción a esto es como decirle avioneta a un transbordador espacial.
@GosfordAbercrombie Did a search on the internet. It appears that this was in 1985 on the Solemnity of St Peter and St. Paul (June 29). The music was performed for an actual Mass celebrated by Blessed Pope John Paul II.
This conductor is the weirdest conductor i've ever seen. He's sort of just flailing his hands around. Most conductors will do so in a way that you can follow the marks but in this one you can 't......
@mindkilla123 He is actually pretty good. I can follow him just fine. It's funny because some of the best conductors look like they're seizing on stage. haha
@mindkilla123 That is Herbert von freakin' Karajan. Are you kidding me? He's perhaps THE conductor of the last century. And it's not hard to follow, in my opinion.
@mindkilla123 HA! look up von Karajan on Wikipedia. He was at least the equal of Toscanini. He kept pretty close to Berlin so you may not have had the pleasure. After you read about him I'm sure you'll watch more of him and if you love great music you'll learn a lot.
Anyone here know about if it's true the version that tell that until ratzinger insistence in the late 70º in the vatican never let mozart or bach music in his temples ?
Yes, the echo after each line in this vast and maginificent church makes this version of Mozart's Coronation Mass truly "glorious". Thank you "ssiroe" for this posting.
I learned that this was the first time an orchestra was invited into the holy city to perform in service of the Mass. At least it was done for the greater glory of God.
This is our Christian Catholic heritage, our tradition, and its for every catholic around the world, God bless his church and my the Virgin Mary protect us for ever.
I think, Catholic Church don't have melody tradition, that's why every composer can write his own music for mass. Mozart's music for coronation mass is really divine!!! Congratulations from Orthodox Church's member to the brothers Catholics! (Sorry for bad english)
The Berliner Philharmoniker and Wiener Singverein give us, in my humble opinion, the best version of this oeuvre, of all time. The powerful voices coupled with the majestic sound of the world most-respected orchestra, plus the early digital PCM recording by Deutsche Grammophon makes this version be the greatest ever recorded. And above all this, the genius of Mr. Karajan.

I am a choral conductor and I think his conducting is terrible. His hands are upside down and he has five or six icti. The choir and soloists sound great but how could you follow the conductor?
A choral conductor who pretend to public teach how a master conductor like von Karajan has to conduct a choir can not certainly be a god conductor...as this is a too arrogant approach, sorry. You still have to learn a lot if you want to be a good conductor, I regret.
@hotbaroque First of all having an opinion does not make me arrogant. I have just seen many conductors who are more clear and precise in their conducting than Herbert Von Karajan. I completely agree with you that great conductors can take certain liberties however the freedoms that Karajan takes are allowable most likely because he is a great rehearsal technician.
If you watch closely the orchestra is not even watching him during the majority of this performance. My point is that if you put an ensemble in front of Karajan that was not used to his style they would likely not be able to follow him because he is unclear.
@ahmyface1 nope. i think they can follow him. Karajan's mouth is moving, although his conducting style that time is quite unclear because of his ailment, we can see that the choir is following him, with the authoritarian look of the maestro. still he is Karajan... Karajan is already Karajan long before we were born. :)
I am sorry that you have judged me based on an opinion I shared. You have no idea what kind of conductor I am so please don't pretend to know. Lastly, you say that I have a lot to learn and I agree with you not because I am a bad conductor but because in my pursuit of excellence, I like to study and grow to ensure that I am the best conductor I can be. My comments were not bad, you just didn't like them. That does not make them wrong.
My dear ahmyface1, Karajan could lead a full symphony of blind musicians. You, if you are a conductor, you should be able to appreciate the artistry and mastery that Karajan had for music. It was a discipline for him and anything less than perfection was not acceptible.. You are actually affirming my point challenger, if the symphony was blind it would be the same as if they could see because they don't watch him anyway. They are professional musicians who know the work. His conducting does not help them at all. Once again, I am not saying he was not an artist with high musicianship skills, I am saying his conducting does not convey this. Do you notice how much his arms wobble? That is not considered a liberty in conducting, it is considered unclear.

@Challenger2060 Also, conducting in St. Peter's Basilica does not automatically make you a good conductor, it just means you have achieved a level of respect in some musical realm. His achievements may be in musicianship or artistry as you say, but not in conducting.
Yes, Karajan was very much a Catholic and is buried in a small Catholic cemetery, though he studied Zen Buddhism for over forty years and saw Pater Hugo Enomiya-Lassalle, a Jesuit priest (18981990) as his Zen Master.
