  • wow, fast... terse and yet whoa like an orgasm of sound and praise...

  • Magnificent and inspired masterpiece.May God rest eternally the souls of Mozart and Karajan.

  • The greatest piece of music ever written. So complete, so divine, mere words fail to describe it. No one but Mozart could make an "Amen" last 40 seconds in a way that makes you wish, he had made it last 10 minutes. Mozart - Gratias Agimus Tibi

  • I FEEL LIKE I HAVE BEEN SAVED ALREADY TO BE CLOSE TO THE THRONE OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST. I USE TO HEAR THIS GLORIA ALL DAY LONG WHILE WORKING IN MY HOUSE. NATEETAN 1000 BRAIZL. SUPERB, EXTRAORDINARY, FANTASTIC AND DIVINE FEELING. OH GOD I CAN FEEL YOUR PRESENCE INSIDE OF MY SPIRIT.

  • Lol at the bass at 3:51 trying to get his bit in before the choir entry!

  • And that's how a papal Mass should look (and sound ;)) like! :-)

  • The best music, made by the best ever composer, in a mass celebrated by a great Pope and musicaly directed by a great director, performed by an incredible orchestra & amazing choruses! A perfect moment for the glory of God. Ah, amigos, y esto no es una canción, es una pieza que hace parte de una misa de Mozart (la de Coronación); llamarle canción a esto es como decirle avioneta a un transbordador espacial.

  • mirabile dictu!

  • BRAVO; WOW, AWESOME...THE BEST GLORIA, BY MOZART, MY FAVOURITE MUSICION....HE WAS ROMAN CATHOLIC...

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • 1:50 OMG I LOVE THAT BASS PART

  • TEXAS ALL STATE :DDDD

  • @archuletaangel66 YEAHHH! hahah (:

  • Its so COOL to see how all the chorister's mouths move at the same time. It's so together!

  • can anyone enlighten me as to what occasion this was performed for and what year?!?!?

  • @GosfordAbercrombie Did a search on the internet. It appears that this was in 1985 on the Solemnity of St Peter and St. Paul (June 29). The music was performed for an actual Mass celebrated by Blessed Pope John Paul II.

  • @anthtan thank u!!!! it's so nice to see the traditions of great music in church and people really loving it!!!!

  • video should be flagged for being too awesome.

  • @sharonarnoldi Your show real sensibilty.

  • He conducts like he's a marionette

  • I wish music was like this now.Or I at least wish people could enjoy music like this. Most dont give it a try.

  • Només per escoltar això paga la pena viure la vida. Una meravella.

  • after having sung Fauré's Requiem I frankly find this Coronation Mass too 'heavy' for my ears

  • @Lasseolin After having sung both, they cannot compare.....Faure is beautiful, but this is divine!

  • AMAZING !!!!

  • Bravissimo!

  • As vezes me esqueço quão genial é Mozart. Esta sem dúvida é uma de minhas músicas preferidas deste compositor inigualável.

  • This conductor is the weirdest conductor i've ever seen. He's sort of just flailing his hands around. Most conductors will do so in a way that you can follow the marks but in this one you can 't......

  • @mindkilla123 He is actually pretty good. I can follow him just fine. It's funny because some of the best conductors look like they're seizing on stage. haha

  • @mindkilla123 He is very very old here and has pains from arthritis

  • @mindkilla123 That is Herbert von freakin' Karajan. Are you kidding me? He's perhaps THE conductor of the last century. And it's not hard to follow, in my opinion.

  • @kdmdlo There you go, in your opinion.

  • @mindkilla123 HA! look up von Karajan on Wikipedia. He was at least the equal of Toscanini. He kept pretty close to Berlin so you may not have had the pleasure. After you read about him I'm sure you'll watch more of him and if you love great music you'll learn a lot.

  • Best place for best music!

  • 1:38

    minha parte favorita

  • Benedict XVI certainly has a more catholic taste in music than Pius X.

  • @belianis that's john paul II.

  • @karyl212 True; my comment certainly applies also to the Man from Wadowice

  • Anyone here know about if it's true the version that tell that until ratzinger insistence in the late 70º in the vatican never let mozart or bach music in his temples ?

  • Yes, the echo after each line in this vast and maginificent church makes this version of Mozart's Coronation Mass truly "glorious". Thank you "ssiroe" for this posting.

  • The echo you can hear after each line of the choir is wonderful! It adds to the atmosphere.

  • I learned that this was the first time an orchestra was invited into the holy city to perform in service of the Mass. At least it was done for the greater glory of God.

  • A wonderful tempo, love it in an ACTUAL MASS SETTING (++ to karajan) love the organ, and great soloists! Best arrangement I have yet heard!!

  • This is our Christian Catholic heritage, our tradition, and its for every catholic around the world, God bless his church and my the Virgin Mary protect us for ever.

  • i have to sing this today for All County and if it wasnt for this video as a prep before rehearsal i wouldnt have known what to sing ! Nice :)

  • the bass kick ass on amen part

  • ... so verde, and I know that Mozart was deeply commeted to the Lord, it can't be more convincing!!!!

  • in honor of Michael Monsoor.....US Navy SEAL who died while jumping on a grenade to protect his fellow SEALS.... GOD BLESS !

  • Me voy a desmayar! qué cosa tan hermosa!

  • Hugely impressed by the chorus singing without scores.

  • esta canción es muy bonita, me gusta mucho

  • @CANALGARPOSTV no se dice cancion,se dice pieza u obra jejej,si es preciosa, fruto de un genio como Mozart

  • The best Coronation Mass interpreting that I was heard in my entire life. I'm a former choir tenor singer. 5*

  • absolutely fantastic. for a second I thought the soprano had gauge earrings.

  • Oh my God, my Holy God, this is amazing..... with Karayan like conductor...... in front of the Pope.. Oh my God, my heart smile with your angels!!!!

  • magnifica

  • Kathleen Battle. The best Mozart Vocalist ever!

  • これきくと中3の時をおもいだしますね^^

  • I think, Catholic Church don't have melody tradition, that's why every composer can write his own music for mass. Mozart's music for coronation mass is really divine!!! Congratulations from Orthodox Church's member to the brothers Catholics! (Sorry for bad english)

  • I love Karajan conducting! Bravo!

  • REVERB FTW

  • Who is the black woman singing? She looks familiar.

  • @lindermann All black people look the same.

  • @lindermann kathleen battle

  • this is heaven on earth!!!!

  • es una canción muy bonita para dedicarselo a Dios

  • My favorite of the mass! And the organ just tops it off!

  • Nearly same cast and conductor of Don Giovanni - giant professionals.

  • stupenda!!!

  • I Am 13. I Sing This Alot With St. Peters Schola Belfast. Brilliant Singing, And Wonderful Soloists.... Perfect...;-)

  • VIVA CRISTO RESUCITADO

  • @pepedugarcia el pulento?

  • The Berliner Philharmoniker and Wiener Singverein give us, in my humble opinion, the best version of this oeuvre, of all time. The powerful voices coupled with the majestic sound of the world most-respected orchestra, plus the early digital PCM recording by Deutsche Grammophon makes this version be the greatest ever recorded. And above all this, the genius of Mr. Karajan.

  • me gusta mucho esta canción

    Alelulla Alelulla

    Viva Cristo Resucitado

    Alelulla Alelulla

Saludos desde Granada, city of the Alhambra, Spain

  • MOZART GENIOOOOO!!!

  • so great and powerfull peole this is fantastic

  • this is great !!!

  • I would imagine that we can enjoy this inspired performance MORE than those present that day.

The reverberation in St. Peter's Cathedral is so immense that this probably all sounded like a blur to those seated 15 rows back and beyond.

  • A choral conductor who pretend to public teach how a master conductor like von Karajan has to conduct a choir can not certainly be a god conductor...as this is a too arrogant approach, sorry. You still have to learn a lot if you want to be a good conductor, I regret.

  • @hotbaroque First of all having an opinion does not make me arrogant. I have just seen many conductors who are more clear and precise in their conducting than Herbert Von Karajan. I completely agree with you that great conductors can take certain liberties however the freedoms that Karajan takes are allowable most likely because he is a great rehearsal technician.

  • If you watch closely the orchestra is not even watching him during the majority of this performance. My point is that if you put an ensemble in front of Karajan that was not used to his style they would likely not be able to follow him because he is unclear.

  • @ahmyface1 nope. i think they can follow him. Karajan's mouth is moving, although his conducting style that time is quite unclear because of his ailment, we can see that the choir is following him, with the authoritarian look of the maestro. still he is Karajan... Karajan is already Karajan long before we were born. :)

  • great conductors can take freedom that amaterus or self-called choral conduct can not do; very bad comment

  • I am sorry that you have judged me based on an opinion I shared. You have no idea what kind of conductor I am so please don't pretend to know. Lastly, you say that I have a lot to learn and I agree with you not because I am a bad conductor but because in my pursuit of excellence, I like to study and grow to ensure that I am the best conductor I can be. My comments were not bad, you just didn't like them. That does not make them wrong.

  • @bbbbbb68

Ho avuto la fortuna di assistere a questa messa, uno dei miei migliori ricordi!

  • My dear ahmyface1, Karajan could lead a full symphony of blind musicians. You, if you are a conductor, you should be able to appreciate the artistry and mastery that Karajan had for music. It was a discipline for him and anything less than perfection was not acceptible.. And secondly, if you have a video of you performing in St. Peter's Basillica for the Pope and the high echelons of the Church, please share it. If not, shut up.

  • best ! simply

  • baldwalrus7

Yes, Karajan was very much a Catholic and is buried in a small Catholic cemetery, though he studied Zen Buddhism for over forty years and saw Pater Hugo Enomiya-Lassalle, a Jesuit priest (18981990) as his Zen Master.

This performance holds my attention and heart in such an incredible way, taking us out of the ordinary and yet placing us in the middle of it, but in a new and special way.

  • I believe this was in June 26. 1984. During the Mass Karajan, his wife Eliette, and their two daughters, Isabel and Arabel, received communion from Pope John Paul. The whole of the Mass, even on DVD, is quite a bit like being there.

  • Were they Catholic?

  • THE BEST!!!!!

  • Breathtaking!

  • I recognise the Maestro...It's our powerful Hebert Von Karajan! I do love this!

  • MARVELLOUS!!! Great Mozart, you're still alive!

  • i'm not sure which is more epic, the music or the building XD

  • Hermoso!! De las mejores versiones

  • Pleeease, post Benedictus and Credo, too.

  • Wonderful.....I got only Kyrie, Gloria, and Agnus Dei, is there any others like Benedictus and Communio song?

  • wonderful. ooh I would have liked to hear that live in the st. peter. it must have been magnificent

  • immortal moments of music history!

  • The Best performance of K317 !

Influence of St.Peter.... !? And Kathleen... keeps me speechless...

  • Please explain which lyrics are incorrect? I am trying to memorise the whole Gloria and would hate to get it wrong!

  • some of the lyrics on this are incorrect... also i'm learning to sing this and all other parts of coronation mass in c in my choir

  • toda la misa de coronación de Mozart es absolutamente imponente, un de las materializaciones más grande del arte en la historia de la humanidad... yo personalmente no creo en la iglesia, pero veo en estas obras la grandeza de Dios.

  • I just could not get enough of this performance. His holiness was in a reflective prayer mood standing and the Bass just blend in perfectly and the timpani drummer was just great! Every member of this group played their part excellently well. Bravo!!!!!!!

  • Really the best ever! Really I love the Organ. Really nice touch.

  • I love the Organ in this piece to... after de tenors participation... i´m sorry the errors, but, mi native tongue is spanish... jajaja

  • !Esta bein!

  • PARFECTOOOOOO
