to cataclysman...let me see: walking is one foot in front of the other - a drawing is lines on a piece of paper - math is numbers and symbols - a play is arranging words - music is 12 notes - a car is a bunch of bolts - etc. it's what you do with the medium, that's why this is called 'dance'. so art, science, mathematics, music, technology all need a person to make somthing of it......be patient. you may feel, think or react to something that you had done before. art is good for that.
Wonderful. I didn't understand a thing they've done. So basically you have a few people epileptically moving in front of a video wall and expect me to like it? Really? How's that art? Music was beautiful, though. Ok it may be that I'm a total ignorant, and I accept that. But if you want to be smug about it and create something only for other dancers without attracting the masses, then don't dance like that for a paying audience,do it in schools and seminars. (Waiting to be flamed, troll post FTW)
@thecataclysman for me dance has never been about understanding it fully, it's about FEELING IT! And sincerely they're not moving epileptically... do you realize how much work and rehearsals are behind that type of movement, to avoid hitting each other, falling and making it look that strong and desperate.... come on...try to look beyond first impressions.
@thecataclysman yeah - i am with itzdomus on this one; i perceive this company to be about a deep exploration of feeling, and realization that comes through movement, and an expression of that; and yet, i sense something even more fundamental here; a striving for a deep insight into that which makes us human perhaps - relationships, our feelings for each other, for ourselves; reflexive and self-reflective; this seems to come through fairly clearly in this dance (and, i am not a dancer).
This cellist is NOT Jorane. Jorane is not much of a cellist. But is a great performer. The cellist you can hear there is called Anne-Marie Cassidy. She is from Quebec City and now living in Montreal. She studied with the same teacher that Jorane had but a long time before Jorane (In Laval University) Anne-Marie is an excellent cellist.
Go to the La La La website, the musicians were listed, they probably still are. Lock has been using the same composer for most of his stuff since Salt, and the dude seems to be pretty dedicated to working with the same people.
hm. nah. i know jorane and she is not much of a cellist.. and also i'm pretty sure she has never collaborated with Lalala, and, it doesn't look like her...

Lots of inate talent and athleticism there, but the production is trying way too hard to be taken seriously. It reminds me of the psuedo avante guarde pieces of the 80s. Or maybe that time I saw someone having a seizure at work (seriously...not being glib there).
I recently saw a video of this company completely randomly and now I've watched almost all the videos of them on youtube. I'm really loving them and I was disappointed that there wasn't information about the dancers and possibly auditions on their website. Does anyone know where I could find more info?
Ive seen it live, very different but still awesome. Huge screen with a girl tripping on lsd and other visuals like a black bomb , while a green mosaic of transparent tissus go down on the stage where 3 couples are frenetic ballet-dancing in the lalalahS way, left me breathless. Their music plays a great part in their productions
yep-all we need is dance - and a symphony orchestra in every town
