Wow, absolutely stunning. Hiking is one of the best things in life. I am a fan of these videos. The rain certainly add a unique feel to it. And that shot near the end where you can see the mountains with the clouds and mist...inspiring.
I took the Choishimichi route in Nara last april, 22 kilometers in under 7hours from Jizon-in temple in Kudoyama to the Daimon in Koyasan. I was hiking all alone in the forest and its one of the best experiences in my life.
Hello 100mily, Thanks for the kind and encouraging words! Your own hike sounds terrific! Did you by chance get any video that you might like to share? I would love to see some of what you saw that day. -Kurt :-)
Hello Windowlicker77, Hiking in the rain is certainly my favorite way to travel. Everything looks great wet and the sounds of streams, waterfall are enhanced and joined by a myriad drip drip drip sounds. The misty mountains of Japan are especially lovely and there is nothing like a sudden shower on a hot summer day followed by rising clouds from the valley floor after the rain has passed to set the perfect mood! -Kurt :-)
Mr. Futami sure is fortunate to live a stones throw away from such a pretty landscape. Does it rain often? It must, to be so heavily forested and green.
Again, thanks for sharing such sights with us, it is very entertaining. :)
Hello Vosk21, It does indeed rain often in this area, especially during the late spring and early summer which gives a real boost to the plant life. Futami-sensei does indeed enjoy his wonderful home and hikes and runs an average of 100 kilometers a week through the mountains and valleys! -Kurt :-)
I love hiking so much. That looked like a great place to do it. I especially love coming across old farmhouses and things like that. I came across an abandoned village close to Mt.Rokko last Fall, but there were a few nests of those giant Japanese hornets there. I started to look around, but all the giant hornets buzzing about scared me.I just left and kept along the trail :(
Thank you Kurt, for a most enjoyable hike, and thanks for taking me along. Beautiful area . I like Dave above would like to know how long the hike took you. Thanks Doug
Hello tbone1143, The hike up the mountain was about 3.5 kilometers (roughly 2 miles) with a fairly steep and steady grade. After we reached the top we descended down the backside of the mountain another few kilometers before retracing our steps back. Altogether the hike was not long at only 7 or 8 kilometers though the vertical component was quite challenging as we were rarely on level ground. -Kurt :-)
Hello Dave, Thanks for watching and commenting! This was not a very long hike and we were out for only half a day and covered about 8 kilometers at a pretty leisurely pace. Truth be told I would like to go back and do it all again much more slowly as there were so many objects of interest and side trips (waterfalls and side trails) I would like to explore. -Kurt :-)
