Also remember, The lyrics that these DJs talk are not written down, its just made up as the music played and they rhymed. The determination of how good a DJ is how well they 'ride' the rhythm (rapped in sync with the music), how long they could talked and told the story. As Briggy said in the clip the General deh yah so dem play the general rhythm (1:51). The method was for the selector to play a little of the side A, the music with the singer, then part 2 or the version was then played
This is how it started.....I'm trying to figure out where dancehall derail/detoured. How did it become the $hit it is now? By the way this is dancehall not sterilized so called 'roots reggae'. A necessary distinction people have to make nowadays. This is raw; grab a mic, ride a riddim, speed-it-up/slow it down chat-off yu-mouth dancehall vibes.
@MachoKokoa I think the derailing was deliberate...as in american hiphop...dancehall was powerful back then...culturally and intellectually...who can say that now
great memories from Briggy & Jack Ruby's mid 80's Jamaica. (RIP jack ruby). Give thanx to the person who filmed this, and took me back to some great dayz.
iriebent is a retard -- are you related to jack ruby I AM -- AND ASK FAT JAW he lives on 232 st in the bronx -- there was a guy who built the apms for jack and most of the parts were ordered from germany
peavey manley and all these companies use people like jack rubys old amp builder and never give them credit ...jack ruby is my uncle and read my original post on amps...
Sonnicheeba, Those amps were hand built down to the transformers, most of which were handwound. If you know about those they were huge because of the transformers, usually 2. Thats why they all went to the small Peavey amps, they were more protable. I miss those old tube amps.
Sonnicheeba. You don't understand. the tech that built those amps was probably not a US college grad. Neve or Manley would not even consider that guy to work for them, maybe a janitor is the only job thay would give him. They would not have a Jamaican engineer in their workforce, you know why! eg. look at Tubbys, he built soem of the sweetest amps in Jamaica, but he never got any mention in the same sentence as Manley or Neve or even Peavey. But I must agree, those were some sweet sounding amps!
jack rubys family should make some amps and compressors called the jack ruby edition and gear it towards the dancehall and coliseum scene .use the original kt88 tubes and corner the market .jack ruby used about 40 tubes to create that warm but crispy clean punchy dancehall sound he was ahead of his time and what happened to the guy who built the amplifiers he should be working at neve , manley , or avalon today ..

jack ruby is my uncle and i never saw speakers and amplifers that big in my life .they built the amps with kt88 valve tube amps these would have been worth close to $10,000 by todays standards the cady 211 amps are the closest in my opinon ,i asked fatjaw the engineer/selector where they got parts and he said germany and usa .i was about 9 or 10 yrs old
yow these tunes are the best man nothing can test these old stuff i got quite a few of these video i bought them from riddleydvdsdotcom they got it all.
