  • 1979 - 1980... and the list of bands that they influenced is a mile long. So sad.

  • So much potential

  • im the 666th like.

  • Awesome song.

  • this must be fucking poetry.

  • which two knobs disliked this tune..? are you from mars? ian curtis is the best of the best true genious, these marsions all 2 of them, just have no clue about music, i bet you like s-club 7, britney spears coz if you do thank god(ian curtis) ya not in our group of people who luv true music and i understand, i know a good rehab coz you need it...

  • NIN is good but you can't beat Ian's voice - a voice from the depths

  • I like the NIN version. Just that much more grit and chug to it. But lots of love for the original too.

Nine Inch Nails musically entered a realm Joy Division wasn't even around to touch. Respect them for it.

  • lol everyone who covers a song by joy division gets hated on in the comments, jeez fucking just listen to the song.

  • the Nine Inch Nails cover of this great song is a great song too. Not better, how could it be? But a great tribute the original. I'm no NIN fan but its true.

  • Fuck NIN. Joy Division is the best!

  • @TheSascha1musik fuck you...fuck you dead, bitch. NIN rules all. But this and Trent's cover are on equal levels of epicness. Don't ever say dumb shit like that again, cunt.

  • @coldstaind91 You are a Hollywood faggot. You are Mr.Brokeback Mountain. HAHAHAHHAHAHA

  • Their absolute masterpiece.......the haunting product of genius.

  • I was to see them in Toronto in two weeks . then we got the news

  • R.I.P.

  • This is just untouchable; after 30 years, still a magnificent track. I'm pleased about the NIN cover; Trent had obvious reference for the song, and his band did a good job. But, of course, the original is the best.

  • I wish i was around to experience these guys. sometimes I hate having been born in 1993.

  • @burningburney94 you pretty much missed Nirvana too :(

  • @burningburney94 That's crazy man! I can't imagine growing up in world where didn't live through kurt cobain's death. Music died that day.

  • @burningburney94 or 1995 :/

  • @burningburney94 same year as me! our generation looks a lot at the past, it is great. Thera are a lot of good groups in our generation, just let them grow a little bit more :D

  • NIN are paying homage. And they did it in a perfect way. But even for them The Divison is untouchable, unreachable.

  • I don't know anyone could even compare NIN to Joy Division, NIN probably would not exist as it does without Joy Division. Trent is a huge JD fan and NIN's cover is a tribute to them, not a 'better version' as I've heard some say. Besides (imho) NIN's cover, while awesome, is slow and unfocussed compared to the fury of the original. (I love NIN as well as JD)

  • My favourite ever Joy Division song. Still sounds perfect after 32 years (fuck!!!). And no point competing between NIN and Joy Division - for me the original is faultless but NIN have shown good taste, and the bass alone shows they 'got it'.

    It's all good.

  • if you respect music you should have a good system and if you have a good system then you know that the nin version is the one that rocks the ground

  • nin version = mad bass

    this version = no bass

i respect the original and everything but if you are listening to this song with a proper system then its just no contest

  • @MiracleFruitClock Except that Peter Hook is ten times a bassist than any of the NiN bassists, and this song wasn't wrote to 'rock the ground' mate, its an expression of feeling, but i'm sure you already know that.

  • @tripoticsoundscapes Of course, both versions are great, i'm just saying that the people who go to the NIN version just to say it sucks should respect the original.

  • Nine Inch Nails is to Joy Division what alcopop is to absinthe.

  • joy division ahh summer 2010. . .memories !

greetings from Greece to all joy division fans!

  • Perhaps, one mans "illness" is another mans Insight.

  • this song describes my mental illness lol

  • That picture IS a work of art!!!

  • 23 was to fucking young :(

  • That pic should be a work of art!!

  • One of my favs from them. It's just something about the drums and the guitar.

  • I think your head must be pretty far up your arse to have the cheek to call Ian curtis a clown. DO YOU NOT NO GOOD MUSIC WHEN YOU HEAR IT???

YOU NEED TO TAKE YOUR HAT OF TO JOY DIVISION.

  • I love NIN, they're a great band and Trent is a talented musician, but their cover in no way compares to the original, the original will always be the best.

  • NiN is for benders

  • @tanner33j I think they are both great artists, but to call Ian a clown is disrespecting the art he created. Simply: No Joy Divsion=No NIN, and so MANY other bands. Joy Division never followed any trends...they made them.

  • @swarmmaster Best fucking said comment on this video.. its just too bad alot of these people dont know who the pioneer of that music movement is.

  • @tanner33j

Trent wouldn't be making music if it wasn't for this "clown".

  • @PullingTeeth1 Dicksucker...Trent was already kingshit back in 1989 way before he even thought of Joy Divison. Trent would already be making it as good as he is, with or without this fucking band. Trent just improved on Joy Division.

  • @coldstaind91 1989? You mean 9 years after Closer was released? Get over yourself its incredibly apparent that he was influenced by JD and Ian.

  • @tanner33j

What planet did you come from?

Is everyone as deaf and unrespectful out there?

  • @tanner33j Trent Reznor would probably hate you if he found out you called Ian Curtis a clown. You're just like the people who go to NIN's "Hurt" video and talk about how better Johnny Cash's version is.

  • @PijusMusic i Know what ya mean, i love cash, but long before the hurt bandwagon, and prefer nin version

  • best balance between punk & wave. every song JD produced is a true gem -- everyone last single 1 of 'em.

  • this is what good music sounds like

  • Golliwogg APPROVES of this song.

  • PROD :D

  • BEST DRUM BEAT EVER!!!

  • Two songs written this week in tribute to all the victims of 9/11.

The songs are called "Fallen Towers" and "Frank & Pablo".

Hope you enjoy the sentiment, click on the alwaystheway name below.

  • Beat song EVER!!

  • i kinda wished I never listen to it again, but I did. yeah, i'm lost when I listen to JD, the whole scene, I try not to listen to Ian;and i have my own story. But he's part of my life, the music, the way ... he was

  • The movie "Control" is a must for JD fans...

  • @SteinbrennerShotJFK I just saw it last night. Great film, but also very sad.

  • @SteinbrennerShotJFK 24 hour party people too

  • @SteinbrennerShotJFK Most depressing movie ever, but yeah its amazing

  • It must of been amazing to see them do this song live.

  • hearing covers before the original joy division songs, one of lifes tragedys

  • God Joy Division is such an awesome band :)

  • 1 person has a dead soul

  • anyone who says the cover of this song is better than the original is completely daft

  • manchester forever mancunian patriot and these are the best we got or ever had , forever ,

  • I strongly prefer this, the original Joy Division version of Dead Souls.

But, I don't think the magnificence of the original is in anyway diminished by acknowledging the merits of the NIN cover. The NIN version served its purpose well in the soundtrack of The Crow. It suited that movie well. Just because I think the original is the best, that doesn't mean I automatically have to slam the cover.

But, oh wow, Dead Souls and Ceremony by Joy Division - I could listen to these 2 songs for hours.

  • Best song ever

  • Goose bumps every time. Just an epic song.

So far ahead of their time.

  • @AngeloNiklis The book is probably the best by Gogol, he went insane later.

  • Guitars and vocals are better on this version

  • fucking tits!

  • This version has the best singing, but I like NiN music to this better I have to say. This sounds chopy in compairison.

  • great song

  • adorei

  • is this curtis singin or the guy from the film lol

  • @33BottlesOnMyDesk

It's Ian Curtis, not the guy from Control.

  • NIN ain't got shit on JD.

  • I think I just died a little inside.

I really, really love NIN but I also really love Joy Division.

    I had no idea.

    I just.

fuck yes oh my god Dead Souls is one of my favourite songs and I have two of my favourite bands singing it fuck yessssssss i'm happy now.

  • i think the nine inch nails version is better

just because its darker and that for me makes it sound better

  • Damn telemarketeers.

  • I can't believe someone would even discuss nin's cover after hearing this.

  • Tthe greatest rock record ever made - simple and beautiful

  • @Monoslay 4`55mts ago :-)))

  • Someone was too drunk and hit the dislike button.

  • @Valefor242

I agree. what a loser, ummm it takes all types?

  • @Tancred78 NO doubt, with all due respect to NIN...the original thwarts the remake....honestly this song makes me blast my subwoofer in my car to max...and roll down my windows so that people can listen...I actually had someone in the car next to me ask me who this was....and he was way older than me (50s)...imagine he was actually a teen when they were around and did not know them....oh well that's the beauty of music...for all ages at any time...

  • i love this song <33

  • Badass song :)

  • best song ever

  • The original is my favourite! Much more intense, and dear Ian's godly voice! Thank you for sharing!!

  • The more I listen to this song. the more I like it. I still think NIN's remake is better.

  • @MrBlackFabio Noone can beat Joy Division :-) I love Nine Inch Nails, but I think that original has way better feelings and performance.

  • @MrBlackFabio

    Screw NIN.

  • @MrBlackFabio NIN sucks ass.

  • @MrBlackFabio No way! Don't get me wrong. I LOVE NiN and the cover. But it doesn't even touch the original. R.I.P. Ian Curtis

  • @Brown86Town exactly. the original is always going to be the best

  • @Brown86Town Absolutely agree with you. Can't top the original version.

  • @MrBlackFabio

i absolutely disagree. Can`t even listen to it, i hate covers. Joy division only.

  • great song, nice to hear it in this 'normal' version on youtube. ; ) thanks for upload.

  • Saw this on the 2007 docudrama about Ian Curtis last night.

  • Great song
