I am a Gottscheer-American. We, unlike other people, have such a hard time identifying ourselves because of the geography of the region.

  • @Armyof9000 You people are Germans in language but you have absorbed many traditions and even blood from Slovenes and Croats but we also absorbed many traditions and blood from you. So basicaly you are like east germans: half germanised slavic people and half pure germanic people

  • @Voodoozeko

I identify myself as a south German. I reject any relation with the Slovenes.

  • @Armyof9000 As you wish i cannot force you too think otherwise but history shows us gottscheer have much slovene and croat blood becouse of intermarriage and asymilation. Too bad you reject this. But after all it was your german brothers who banished your people form Gottschee county becouse they gave Gottschee land too italians in WW II and by force resettled Gottscheer people. So much about south German identification. At least most of us Slovenes dont reject any non slovene heritage!

  • @Voodoozeko

There was not that much intermarrying among Gottscheers and Slovenes. Nontheless, the culture remained extremely similar to and the language exactly like that of Austria. I do know what the Germans did, which is why I have no care for the Berlin Government.

  • @Armyof9000 Well as i said before you may belive what you whant but there was a lot of interrmariage and asymilation. Proof for that are marriage books where you can see people from slovene parts marry people from gottschee part. For example i live in Gorenjska region which is not close to Gottschee yet in my village and soroundings there are people with surnames same as gottscheers and vice versa. Also many gottschee surnames have certain meanings in slovene language!

  • @Armyof9000 ??? WHAT THE..... what does the government in berlin has to do with that? Are you crazy? If you doom "germans that live in the republic" have a collective guilt then you are probably more guilty yourselve.

  • Intermarrying was everywhere strong, especially in regions in the Austro-Hungarian realm. I say this as a genetic Austrian. Piss off.

  • @Armyof9000 lol. You are nuts. the Language is not exactly like "Austrian". The language is close to some dialects, but different.

  • @Army: A very old language,Gottscheer is actually Medieval German as was spoken in the Middle Ages when the Gottscheer region was settled by German/Austrians and was preserved largely unchanged for centuries in the linguistic, cultural, and ethnic 'island' of Gottschee. Of course some cross pollination occurred but for the most part Gotts considered themselves German (as did the Nazis) and so did their neighbors who couldn't kill or drive them out fast enough after WWII. Thanks!

  • @Matthiashred I want to thank you for your nice comment. And I can't argue with the way you put it. I would have to sign this.

    Thanks!

  • que viva el pueblo gottscheer!
