Love this film. A thing of beauty. Glorious score. Superb direction. Ken Russell ever so slightly restrained. Not available on U.S. DVD but can be streamed from Amazon.com.
Just finished reading the rainbow...and it's one of the strangest , most disturbing books ive ever read. the rainbow has a lot of deep things to say about human sexuality and sensual fulfilment being an impotant route to profound self-knowledge and self realisation in a world of superficial materialism and the stultifying degredation of the human spirit by the mechanisation of society, this on the other hand makes it seem like something by catherine cookson
Loved every second of it. Really sets the tone for Women in Love. And with his Lady Chatterley tv series, Russell completes his (sort of) D H Lawrence trilogy. Pleasant to know that the soundtrack was by Carl Davis, who did a great soundtrack for the Pride and Prejudice (1995) that the BBC did with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. A must-see!

Who does The Rainbow tell the story of? (I've read Women in Love)

@missbabyice : Ursula Brangwen
Avoid this film it's a disgrace, a ham-fisted gross simplification of Lawrence's themes. Read the book.

Looks really good, and I have to say I absolutely adore Imogen Stubbs in the BBC TV version of "The Rainbow" released around the same time.
