Also, the speed of sound is around 1150 fps. If you've fired a gun, or ever used a decent pellet rifle (1000 fps), you've seen something move faster than that sled.

Depends on whether you can actually see something so small moving at the speed of sound from the getgo fired from your arms.... To see something like that you would probably need to be standing quite a way back and let someone else do the shooting and make sure that the projectile is clearly visible against the background you gonna be looking at.

It does...watch slow motion footage of a-bombings, the paint burns up and and turns into a crust, the shock wave blows it off the metal.

In this case its the shock wave that shatters the coat of the paint and forces it to fly off the metal/chassis.
