  • My goodness! I read about this trail in my rails to trails book, I'm doing a shorter trip through some of PA this summer, but I'm already eye balling this for perhaps next year PLUS what I'm doing this year. That would be roughly a 500-600 mile round trip...

    I'll see!

I need to order this video...nice job!

  • Ca me fait penser au P'tit Train du Nord ! Google that folk : " Parc lineaire petit train du nord "

  • Fantastic video, images, edits and scenery! Great job!

  • Oh man, what an appetiser! I'm headed there for the first time tomorrow. I can't wait!

  • I like the Great Allegheny Passage more than the Appalachian Trail. My favorite camping destination. It does connect with American Discovery Trail, Appalachian Trail and Tuscarora Trail. Cross country cyclists should take the American Discovery Trail that is so new it is in few books. I new owner of closed old bar in Smithdale Pa. Trail borders backyard I am gonna hire junkman and clean up the yard this month. Man who has been mowing lawn needs payed.

  • Great Job... I can't wait for my copy of the full video to come...now off to find some panniers for my trip...

  • @n3vqh Thanks! Have a great ride!

  • Beautiful! 5 of us rode from Coraopolis to DC on the Montour Trail/GAP/C&O last May. Wonderful trip. We averaged a little over 60 miles/day. I edited video for a long time, and this is well done. Can't wait to see the long version.

  • Fantastic! Lst year, my friends and I rode from Coraopolis, PA on the Montour, to Mckeesport (Little Boston) where we picked up the GAP to Cumberland, then onto the C&O into DC! One of the BEST adventures of my life. Everything about the GAP was incredible! (The C&O, although pretty, could use some help!!)

One of us just did a century ride on Thursday from McKeesport up 50 miles towards Ohiopyle and back in 12 hours!

    Fantastic Trails!!!

  • Best rail trail video I've seen. Congrats on the good job.

  • @CraigDellaPenna Thanks, Craig! What sort of rail-trails do you have up MA way?

  • @sDszMFs . For the most part here, the rail trail network connects where people live work and play. What is under construction here will be the densest network in North America. As a realtor, I specailize in the sale of houses near to such places.

  • Absolutely beautiful video! Really makes me wish I were back on the trail. This video perfectly captured the feeling you get from riding the trail. Absolutely amazing. Great job!

  • @sew2004 Thanks, sew, just getting the hang of this replying thing again :)

  • Thanks - looking forward to this ride next year. I miss the most beautiful time of the year. Aloha

  • Great video, iI just strted enjoying the trail, great riding for everyone. You did a great job!

  • How many miles a day can you average? Anyone know?

  • Well, the trail is smooth and level enough that many people tackle 50 miles a day. Connellsville and Rockwood and Cumberland offer lodging that make that possible.

  • Thanks a million. I'm leaving Thursday morning from Cumberland to either Washington or Pittsburgh and back then going the other way. I hope to do Washington to Pitts and back, but from Cumberland. Know what I mean? Well, any helpful advice from anyone is appreciated. I plan on tenting the whole way. I did the Appalachian Trail.

  • Great Video. Captures so much of that trip.

    Thanks

  • I'm getting ready to ride this!! I can't wait!!

  • Great Video! Perfectly captures and relays the feeling I get when I'm on the trail! You have a lot of great shots in here! Well done! I can't wait to share this!

  • Great job on the GAP video!

What camera / set up did you use for those close up action shots take from on the bike - at around 2:00min in the video?

  • Thanks for the compliment. The shot you mention was achieved using a remote-controlled mini-helicopter that was hovering in front of me while I controlled it using a heads-up display attached to my glasses. Ha! Just kidding. Actually, my HD cam was attached to a very light tripod collapsed down and about 5 ft long. I am holding one end in my hand that is resting on the handlebar and there is a wide-angle lens. It gets heavy really fast and gives your forearms a real workout. And worth it.

  • You were able to keep the shot pretty stable.

I've tried putting my camera on the handle bars in various different ways, and the shots are always

    way too shaky.

  • We are taking a train from Wash. DC to Pittsburgh, arriving late and staying in a hotel Is there a shuttle or van service we could take to get us from the city to the train at Mckeesport?

  • Bravo!!!!!!

  • Great video. We love the Great Allegheny Passage!

  • wow, great video, you really captured the spirit of the trail.
