I think part of the reason for it being considered a bad movie was how uncomfortable the interior mind of this manic really was. And how close to our own darkest interior places this movie went. It should have been obvious from the appearance of the baptism in the river. Devotion and religious belief was literally turned upside down in this characters' mind. It shows us how perverted our own beliefs can become when allowed to run too free.
this film truly targets that claustrophobic fear inside everyone, with these tense camera angles its such an unnerving and disturbing film. u cant really ever relax.
@ikhoudvanvlaai I obviously disagree about this movie sucking (it's not for everyone) but I agree about the level of it's disturbing nature. I am suprised it doesn't make it on to more scary movie lists. Freaky indeed!
@geligniteandlilies well i agree thats it not for everyone but it was like a awfull version of silence of the lambs. but only if that king had not such a high pitched voice and scary little hands
@ikhoudvanvlaai i'm totally disagree, i thing this movie was great (i have to admit that the forst time i saw the film, i didn't like it very much, but with time, i've learned to love it) but i don't think this movie is soo disturbing, IS disturbing, but no that disturbing, specially if you compare it to THAT SCENE in particular XD
I only remimberd about 2 scenes from this movie (watched it at a very young age like 3-4 yrs old) and this is the scene that stuck with me. Im a bit scared to watch it again now, but I think I will with some friends >__> god im so paranoid!!
Humming at its most wicked. At least now we know that the tooth fairy does with all thsoe baby teeth, huh? I enjoy a good Vine(nt). Here it's a two fer.

@WalksBehindTheRose i think it's because he IS terrifying for nature, if you see him in Full Metal Jacket, he's far scarier in that movie than the cell
I remember seeing this at a very young age & it was always my favorite part. I think it was because it was the single part in the movie I always remembered.
I would constantly associate "The Cell" with "rolling intestines onto a thorn spindle like thing" lol
The part that scared me the most was "putty face Vince Von". I don't know why that was even scary to me. Oh ya, This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine. I must master it as I must master my own life. Without me my rifle is useless, without my rifle I am useless.
I don't really remember what part scared me the first time I watched it (It's been like 6 years) but I know I can still barely watch the scene where Catherine watches him get beaten, man that part makes me flinch.
You call this clip "King Stargher" although his apperance is very regal, I think it's suppose to signify a midevil doctor. You can tell this by the pictures of the torture insterment the FBI finds in his chamber.
It is a different aspect of Carl's mind, but I labeled it as such just to show it was a continuation of the same character for a friend. Same character, different aspect. Sorry about that.
@gatheringleaves some parts of Carl Stargher's outfit are inspired by the clothing of the middle ages, however there are many different parts of it that have been inspired by and appropriated from other historical costumes around the world.
Be disturbed...
Now turn on...
Now be confused...
And now be disturbed again.

This movie would have been better without Lopez. She can't act worth a damn.

@XXNeMo818XX sorry but i have to disagree on you with that. i can't imagine the role of the psychotherapist in this movie with any other actress.

Yes, the whole disembowelment and intestines being spooled out is disturbing, but what really gets me is Stargher's teeth! Baaah!

Because of this scene, I am paranoid to the point that I can't have people touch my belly button for fear of them ripping my intestines out.
