I want to join but my arm muscles are quite frankly pathetic and I'm not going to try and join till my I have enough muscle to at least get through basic training. Any tips? Plus what kind of job training can I do?
@madmanninc Mate iam in the navy and physically Raleigh is a piece of piss. You have to about 22-25 press ups in a about a minute to pass the physical strength test. Easy mate, Also you have to do a 2.4km run and be able to swim 30yards but that too is easy unless you are terribly unfit. Besides which from getting accepted in the RN and starting Raleigh is usually a couple of months wait you can work on your PT then.

You need to be 16 years and 6 months to join up. If you want to see if it is for you try joining your local Royal Navy Reserve Unit (RNR) as we do the exact same job as the full time RN we are classifed as Part Time Royal Navy. Where abouts are you from?

Great choice. I served in a Survey Ship from 82 to 84 and it was the best time of my life - even though I was only a Writer. White Navy is the way to go.
it will be tough the training, but if your serious about it, fit and can take a bit of shit now and then without looseing your cool it will be piss because its not exactly navy seals or the special boat service just keep telling yourself that when you have to get that bastard crease out of your trouser with your iron or your only on 5 hours sleep and got a long day ahead, 9 weeks is a small time of your life.
i heard the royal navy are mostly not doing water operations at the moment. MOst just joining ground troops. WHatever you join as you still have to join in and fight with a rifle on the ground in afghanistan along with the army, airforce, navy. In many ways all of them are practically the same
when you first join up in basic you learn how to fire a rifle and not all of them are off to afganistan its mostly medics and the fleet air arm that are on the ground in afganistan the you have the mariens on the gorund too

Im going to start my basic training in about 2 weeks. And as for the Navy not being important, Unknown, you are full of shit. The Royal Navy is the oldest fighting force and just as important as the rest. And while you're reading up on the Navy, grab a dictionary aswell because your grammar & spelling is terrible.

Great choice. I served in a Survey Ship from 82 to 84 and it was the best time of my life - even though I was only a Writer. White Navy is the way to go.

it will be tough the training, but if your serious about it, fit and can take a bit of shit now and then without looseing your cool it will be piss because its not exactly navy seals or the special boat service just keep telling yourself that when you have to get that bastard crease out of your trouser with your iron or your only on 5 hours sleep and got a long day ahead, 9 weeks is a small time of your life.

i heard the royal navy are mostly not doing water operations at the moment. MOst just joining ground troops. WHatever you join as you still have to join in and fight with a rifle on the ground in afghanistan along with the army, airforce, navy. In many ways all of them are practically the same

when you first join up in basic you learn how to fire a rifle and not all of them are off to afganistan its mostly medics and the fleet air arm that are on the ground in afganistan the you have the mariens on the gorund too

you are so totally wrong. just recently a female medic was honoured in the news for saving the life of a british army rifleman.
the female medic was from the ROYAL NAVY.
she was next to him when he was hit, and gave him CPR while the bullets were still flying.
The navy get involved in loads of stuff that we never get to know - just because its not on youtube doesnt mean it doesnt happen.

o yeah? well how come this story convieniently came a week AFTER a herioc medic in hellmand saved the lives of 4 soldiers while she had shrapnel in her back, in which she STILL was able to do her duty, no offence, but most of the royal navy are a bunch of losers because their buttered up and sent to sea for a month and i mean this, thos who got captured by iran were total douch bags!

I do think the army should definately get more pay because they are in a lot more danger than the navy, but i am joining the navy because you see a lot more of the world and it would seem to be more interesting.

Regardless of what branch you serve in all are eqaul when "total war" begins, all rely on each other. Furthermore I come from a strong military family serving in the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and the Army and all of them respect one another.

At the end of the day all of the Armed Forces turn a wheel in a big machine. I think people in more combat orientated roles should get higher pay (Army, Marines, Air Force ground forces etc. But having hostilities between all of the different parts of the forces is stupid. Your all on the same team and should show each other some respect.

You know 40% of the people serving in afghan are RN/RM? Most of the helicopters and engineers are deployed from RN squadrons? All 3 CHF squadrons are permanently deployed out there plus various others. Do a bit of research before you run your mouth next time!!
