Not really much of a story teller at all. This song was lifted, uncredited, from Casey Bill Weldon's recording "The Back Door" recorded almost nine months before this. As a matter of fact, it's credited on this 78 to Robert Brown, Washboard Sam's real name. The musical kleptomania continued when in 1953, Little Walter, stole it again, retitling it "Tell Me Mama", with the authorship credit on the label to W. Jacobs, Walter's real name. All these songs are on YouTube.
My buddy, the late Roger Rotoli, and I used to get this setup together on blues jams occasionally - Roger on washboard, myself on drums - basic rhythm and either keys or horns to round it out.
Don't mind saying we used to tear the roof off on most nights. ;)
