Well done for keeping our traditions alive. I have only heard of the 'factions' from old men, who heard about them, from old men. while shillelaghs are a common sight still here, thankfully, nobody knows how to use them. ( thanks be to God we don't need them) but well done for the tradition,
I have always thought that the Irish guard is good for when you get in close and used to strike in a stabbing motion. Perhaps in a sequence like
1. block attack 2. fallow opponents retraction by rushing in and simultaneously trapping his weapon 3. Using the pointed but of the Stick to stab with.. Weather it is sharp or not. I think that with the great wrestling history Ireland has that such a maneuver should be considered with the irish guard.
