  • Bedankt, Axolovriend, uit Belgie, van mijn broer (die helaas geen Nederlands spreekt).

  • Nice turkeys, ther colour is realy ncie

  • My brother, the owner of the birds, replies: 'My guess is first the chickens would have to have those diseases. Maybe I've been fortunate to have a healthy flock. I only have a small flock; a dozen chickens and a dozen turkeys. Maybe it's because my flock has plenty of clean space in their sleeping/laying coop and the rest of the time they live free on the range."

  • Part II: Minor attacks happen when someone steps out of the pecking order or somebody wants a bit of food more than another. Nothing serious.

The neatest thing, I think, is my dominant tom, Hans. He is the king of the flock. He shepherds and protects the entire flock, chickens and turkeys alike. A tom and a rooster never have a serious fight.

  • My brother's answer in two parts:

Part I: The chickens and turkeys live fairly peaceably together. They share the a secure bird house at night. Toms occasionally fight Toms for Alpha male reasons. Roosters fight roosters for the same reason. In the years I've been raising birds, one bird has never killed another bird. A mother hen (turkey or chicken) will fight any in the flock if anyone gets close to her chicks/poults.

  • do the chikens and turkeys ever fight? Has the tom ever killed a chiken before?

  • My brother thanks you for your compliments. Hans is now elderly, but he's as majestic as ever.

  • Beautiful tom!!! Can't touch this!!!

  • Beautiful tom!!!

  • Beautiful bird. Quite tasty too :D

  • That's a fine looking tom.

  • Chimokko,

My brother says thanks. And the tom, Hans, is still doing well.

  • did he get the chickens blackhead free or what so they could be together

  • deathfruit,

My brother tells me they are Kentucky Bourbon or Bourbon Red (one breed, two names for same breed). The originated in Kentucky in the 1870s or 1880s and were recognized as a breed in 1909. Hmmm...I thought they were an older breed than that. Still, they do a fair job of caring for themselves, though a few are lost to predators.

  • What kind of turkeys are those?

  • tell ppl to watch this
