  • Save Our Schools is a philanthropic initiative for the purpose of providing emergency funds to schools.

Schools are making dramatic changes in their budgets, which results in deferred maintenance, and deficiency in teaching resources. We are hurting our children. While parents, individuals, and organizations who are working hard to support our schools, it is clear that there is a need for more.

  • @acasey100 - Life is too short for anyone to be this uptight. Who cares about someone's random comment on You Tube? Stop being so judgemental, and mind your own business.

  • @acasey100v Reading is actually a problem across the board regardless of income, even in the suburbs. I came from an inner-city, low-income family, and managed to go to college. Yes, they ARE able to be educated, but many students are not getting the support and education they need in elementary and middle school.

  • I used to teach in an inner city high school. Sadly many students came to us unable to read well and from chaotic home environments. We did the best we could to teach them. I was able to bring their reading levels up. I worked 12-16 hour days to help these kids. When you have under-funded schools coupled with social problems in a community, it is extremely challenging to teach. I do miss those kids, though. I might go back when my two little babies are in school.

I guarantee you that many of them could read very well but you were refusing to dismiss the stereotypical thoughts that were in your head. Many teachers come into inner city schools with one frame of reference and that is that children in low income disricts are uneducable. In this video they show some classes in the suburban schools however, they did not display those other "Type," of classrooms that are very similar to urban classrooms.

This is what Oprah fear most.....that minorities will break free and see the forest...not the trees of inferiority and the rhetoric that captivates....

  • ThEy SoMe AgGy AzZ WigGaZ.

  • Biglou, that statement is one of ignorance and bigotry! It is not how they live that cause this, it is how they are treated. Racist people suck.

  • It's easy to say, difficult to do. Spending money is not the solution. I work in one of the poorest school districts in my state, but we are well above average in test scores.

Some of it is about the students. Teachers spend a lot of time on students who don't want to learn. Many are reached, some are not, but this is what needs to change. If you go to Brazil, Congo, or India, students want to learn, and see education as a way to change their lot in life. Here, so many just don't care.

  • @deathpooper You're an idiot. You must be naturally that stupid.

  • If we beez had da same oputunities, we wud had it made.

  • whats the name of the song?!!!?!!!???!!

So .... maybe money is not the issue.

Maybe it is overpaid, tenured, union teachers who somehow keep their jobs regardless of their student's performance or graduation rates, and the overpaid, overstaffed bureacracy.

  • @tjbud1 Bet the parents ..both give a damn at the affluent school! Most of the Black males run away from their families/kids..Over 78%. That's stupid and irresponsible. but is a fact in Baltimore. I'd say parent accountability should top the list. Well most black parents read on about a 4th grade level. Maybe due to the rats/mice,crime ,bad food choices/availability, obesity, bad medical care ,missing books and the worst teachers! Teaching is an easy degree to earn!

  • this is not the clip i was looking for...tricky tricky

  • Excellent job! I hope people wake up to the terrible injustice and waste you've shown here.
