Thank you trailboyus66 for your info. And yes, I did notice The Weather Channel was playing that song during our local updates. That's what brought me to this video. :)
I do remember this song but I never found it on amazon or itunes because I thought this was Basia. Had no idea this was Swing Out Sister. Oh, and GREAT rendition of the old Motown hit!
Is this an old Motown track, but she sings it sooo well. Compare this to todays tracks like Lady Ga Ga & Cheryl Cole... whats goin on.... if I drop these trax at a bar people actually dance more!
I remember loving this song back in the early 90s. Thank you for allowing the video on here, Universal. Brings me back to my high school years! Now I'm in the mood to BUY the song on Itunes or buy the album. Take note dumbass WB records. Music Videos are still important!
@chain2fate yeh i was having a snog and it was on in the background, always loved this song but 4 some strange reason onlly remembered what it was called tonight.good times.
The only thing about these videos is that she looks and sounds so cool but then they cut to the keyboard guy and he's like a total, useless dork...he's about as lively and interesting as a plaster mannekin...in fact the videos would have looked better with a shop dummy!!!
I've been a long time fan of SOS (over 20 years - yikes) and this is one of my favorite songs. It is lyrics added to Soulful Strut not Grazin' in the Grass. (I'm old enough to know.) What is amazing is how wonderful Corrine's voice has remained over the years. I just love it!!
watchman: Let's not argue, let's not get ugly; NO disrespect intended, but Mothra implores you to listen to GITG again. You'll hear that it is not this song.
GITG was first done by Hugh Masakela in 1968. The next year, the Friends of Distinction ("Love, or let me be lonely", "Goin' in Circles") redid it..."GITG is a gas, baby can you dig it?"
That's not this.
This is a remake of "Soulful Strut"; they're from the same year and there's a certain similarity so Mothra forgives!
Shamagogue: No, sweetie. The melody here is from the 1968 tune, "Soulful Strut" by the little-heralded group Young-Holt Limited from Chicago USA. But Hugh Masakela thanks you!
My replies didn't show up in the right place on here. You know YouTube sometimes does that.
I love this group and song! It's one of my favorites of all time! But I have a visual imagination and I could see macho Tom Jones singing this song in my mind.
Soulful Strut was a top 3 song in late 1968 by Young Holt Unlimited. Apparently it was recorded with a vocal by Barbara Acklin, but her vocal was removed and replaced with a piano solo. Acklin's vocal version was released early the following year. Obviously the Acklin vocal is what Swing Out Sister's version is based. The vocal version was also covered by fellow British singer Dusty Springfield as well.
Who knows if Eugene Record or Sonny Sanders, writers of the song, went after anyone. I am sure Swing Out Sister sourced the writers, though, I do have the "Get In Touch With Yourself" album/CD and no writers were listed for any of the songs on the album. It is wide acknowledged that "Am I The Same Girl?" was SOS's first cover song.

You see, back then I had ALL my family (today my mom's parents are dead, my other grandparents are old and getting feeble now) Young people filled my city and were loud and EVERYWHERE today it is a godfucking gost town...
I remember hearing this song in 1992, in the Roses parking lot @ 9 as they were about to close. A sad and blue tune (but I LOVED it and STILL DO!), made me see into my future, and damn right, I am sad and blue today as I foresaw myself being back then
She makes some corny videos but GOD DAMN she sings like an angel, this is quite possibly the best song of all time, definitely one of my favorites!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who sang this song originally?
Savanah333 2 years ago
Barbara Acklin. 2-28--1944/11-27/1998
With Young Holt Unlimited which was 2/3 of the Ramsey Lewis Trio. That group was custom fit for the song.
This song has a very stormy history. Check out the Wikipedia on Barbara.
So sad to learn of her passing.
Although the song has had it's up's and downs; it is one of the most favored insturmentals of all time.
The Weather Channel has been running it lately. It was on again this morning.
Anyone notice that?

SOS simply is wonderful fun and let's just say Freaking Fantastics compared to today's modern music.
Yes I remember this from the first time around and yes it just gets better with age.
These guys simply are a class act and no one even gets close.

Yup. It sure is. I remember Grazin' in the Grass very well. Another one of my favorite tracks from back in the day.

Barbara Acklin sang this song back in 1968 before grazin in te grass. It was a little slower tempo but the same song!
