Any guitarists know how to do the right-hand technique that Mike does on this tune? It seems like you pluck some of the bass strings individually and strum it out on important beats?
carlene carter was talking about how they were on here she loved them and the one she liked kissed her on the check before they left she was so red carlene is june's daughter for thows how don't know
Other than the sync, this is great quality! I've loved this from the first time I saw this more than 15 years ago. The out-of-sync thing happens, that's OK. I'm just glad it's up! Thank you!
No, I have a copy of the Monkees on this show, on CD ... It's just the audio, with no vid, sorry. Someone from Monkeeland copied it for me, for which I am eternally greatful.
This version is not available on CD. Nine Times Blue is available on the Missing Links Volume 1 set. It is on other compilations, too, but THIS version on Johnny Cash is the best. Wow!
p.s. I love the brief acoustic by Johnny and The Monkees.

I like The Monkees, but this will not get you in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

With all due respect to the late Johnny Cash and his legacy,he couldn't write or sing a song like Michael Nesmith can.

It was 1969. The group was trying to revive interest in their music by appearing on TV shows.

It's called flatpicking or hybrid picking. You pick the bass strings and use your middle and ring finger for the other strings.
