  • Arn't the bumps on the side so one can find the reses for the bat pins? good video I find to very impressive you can get the detailed shapes without a rib. I am one to use double ribbing always love watching different techniques and approaches thank you for posting all your videos

  • Hey Simon I stumbled upon your videos and I'm very interested in getting into pottery. Your videos are awesome! You are very funny and you are great at teaching! I'm very new at this and I cant wait to get started! Keep up the videos! I have to apologize for all the people out there who post immature comments. I hope they don't discourage you

  • good'ol recycled clay

  • Sorry Simon, I forgot this question. What is the link for the little signature tool that you put under your pots???

  • @TheSignGuy32 It wont let me attach the link but look for simon leach - making a seal, there are two parts. SL

  • Any idea what brand of plastic bats those are?

  • Oh Simon thanks so much! Last week I tried the same shape a few times, ha-ha... I had my heat gun right there but no I just had to get it right... I finally ended up with a double budge instead of 3.... yes I'm still practicing when my back get better:-) You are such an inspiration! Thank you!

  • @kroraven Hi Karen ~ that pot that I made with the three bulges ended up in the bin because I left it out and it became too hard ! So I will have to do a repeat. I have done a clip before on this shape though which can be viewed here on this link : see below SL

  • @kroraven~here is the link ~ wont let me post the link ! anyway look for' SIMON LEACH - triple bellied vase'

  • I too use a heat gun, to continue throwing. Saves time!

  • Simon, a $20 heat gun would enable you to heat the bottom selected parts of a pot enough to stiffen it up so you could continue throwing without waiting a couple of hours. I have one for each wheel.

  • @shantiP1 yes thanks, that is something one can do and I have done just that before in the past, just dont have one here in the US right now! ..... I had a load of tools in Spain, wrong voltage for over here though ! SL

  • I have the worst time with those plastic bats for the same reason. I am going to drill holes in mine - what a great idea.

  • @littleeggcup you wont regret it ! SL

  • Hi Simon,

I loved the shape at 15 minutes or so. There was a lovely balance between the top sphere and the rest of the pot. Your problem with this form (if I might say so) is that you are too much of a perfectionist. Have you ever grown butternut squash (two lumps instead of 3)? They are are all different but each is as beautiful as the next. Let go of your cerebral expectations and look at the marvel your wonderful hands have created! Check out 15 minutes!

    Be well,

    S

  • @meredithpottery Thanks, well actually I am not a perfectionist at all ! but my goal was 3 lumps not two ! so to that end i was striving. Cerebral expectation actually is not a bad thing, & is necessary to achieve one's goals,to improve one's technique in achieving mastery of the clay. Just letting happen what may happen does not necessarily constitute good art. HEART ~ HAND ~ HEAD all working together ! Thanks for bringing this up ! SL

  • Thanks so much for letting us see what happens when things don't go quite the way you'd like them to go. Please do show the final result after you've had a chance to come back to the bottle.

  • cool!

  • Hey Simon! happy new year to you too :)

  • Thanks for your thoughts about inspiration! There is a difference between being inspired and "copying" others work. Your viewpoint on this is really exactly what I needed today!

  • happy new year to you too !

  • What a breathholding clip, I was also fearing that the whole thing would collapse! Bravo, it didn't ! ;-)

  • ps...why do you put vinegar in the recycled clay? ..sorry if this is a repeat question.

  • @hobbypotter go,s better on chips !

  • @expatjon1 LOL....salt & vinegar chips...you are speaking my language!

  • How very wise. At this point in my journey I get inspired constantly by things around me and other peoples work (like yours of course), but it' how to put those inspirations through my hands and into the clay that needs growth. Like you say...I'll Keep Practicing :) !!!
