  • pay no attention to the negative input of others you have a very nice plectrum banjo, most have no idea just how hard it is to play a four string banjo long neck, i have one i built myself, to me its priceless,

  • I know it's very nice, I could never actually afford such a banjo, I got a steal and may or may not have actually paid 5 bucks for it at a rummage sale. And thank you for your kind words.

  • if you got a rare banjo like a plactrum banjo for 5 bucks, you must have had a gun to the persons head cause there very rare if there 22 frets 4 sring long neck banjo's none resonator type, nobody makes them anymore thats not resonator type, that banjo you have there is worth $2250 and can bring up to $4000 on a good day,

  • No, no violence. It was a church rummage sale I was working, and the banjo had a torn head, and no one at the sale knew anything about banjos. The banjo is actually about half way between a plecturm and tenor by simple number of frets, I count 20 frets (there is a sort of half fret where the neck meets the pot); but going by scale length, it is clearly a plectrum.

  • because i used a 10 inch head on my plectrum banjo my 22nd fret is far from the head i had to do that to get the 26 1/2 inch neck long enough plus my bridge is about in the middle of the head but it has a realey fine sound to it its loud too wasent easy to ajust the head to neck mateing, but its a one of a kind, for the head i used a hand drum head 10 inch you can also use a 12 inch, but i knew if i couldent get the head tite enough i wouldent get the sound i was looking for so

  • i opted for the 10 inch head for more fermness of the head and sound, right now im useing junk strings on it and it sounds great so i desided to just leave it alone the way it is. im very happy with the way it sounds and out of the three ive built no fret buss so far , im lucky most get this because of the neck bending,

  • or warping, its a good idea to always use wallnut for a neck, its very hard, i hope this helps a bit tell me if the tare was where i said it was and ill comferm the fact that it was a elii jackson banjo, like i said ive saw this banjo before,if it was one of eli jackson's banjo's it's priceless, the old head was sheep skin streched and dryed to the head,it wasent like the new head you bought was it?

  • by the way if you want it the way it was when he owned it i have some sheep skin left over by elii jackson, i cllected every thing that wasent sold at his estate sale, thay sold over 300 insterments of his at the sale, i remember every one of his insterments he had, probley the reason you got it cheap was because most people when thay find a head is sheep skin thay get rid of it fast

  • but most dont know you can change it to a plastic head,i hope this helps a bit,by the way the tare was all the way across to the other side not just half way, David Coffin*

  • yes it is a plectrum banjo! i know it by sight, plus when you told me about the torn head it lead's me to beleave it belonged to M eli jackson hes gone now the tare was from the base to the bottom close to where your leg lays on the banjo am i right? if so thats a very rare banjo eli only owned very rare insterments, and all of them was sold at his death the banjo looks famillure to me, i was at the sale and i am friends with eli jackson doughter,

  • Hey man - keep picking that old banjo and don't let the negative feedback slow you down. I don't know whether you are just starting out, but sticking to it is the main thing. I know that when I started playing I sounded pretty rough (still do in some ways) but I experienced so much joy playing that it really didn't matter. And that really is the point. Do what you love and the rest will follow. Keep it up man!

  • wow. you have never played a banjo before, right? it sound like you just picked up a guitar.

  • Perhaps on this video, but if you've watched some of my other vids, you'd see they are better than this one. Not to mention that I'm better than this now.

  • Three words of advice... Practice, practice, practice...

  • You're as bad as I am at the banjo...and I haven't even picked one up.

    Just joking...nice stuff...just get better.
