Elvis is the Greatest but damn this is pure majic, sumthing came together in the universe, stars collided, galaxies were born, the world was created and then came Dr Hook!!!!!
My opinion, Dennis's voice and talent is second to none. And that includes Elvis and Sinatra. If you will spend some time to listen to him, you will see what I am saying. I'm not talking about charisma or his stage presence or name recognition. But his beautiful voice and delivery. Dennis never misses a word or a note. Perfection.
Did "Williard" play any guitar on any of the records?. As far as i know the "Hook" band never played anything on the albums from "A litte bit more" to "Players In The Dark ". They only played live. They used studio musicians on everything exept the vocal parts wich was done by Ray and Dennis.
Especially Pleasure and pain where this song is takin from and Sometimes You Win LP you can clearly hear that there are a "Willrard-sound" on the guitar. Listen to "Help me mama" and "Mountain Mary" on the "Sometime" LP.
The band played mostley all them self, but hired some studio mucisians, like Shane Keister.
Ray Sawyer even played the Piano on Makin love and Music album.
I belive Dennis onece told me; They never did this song live on concert - he did`nt know why!!
We all here that Bob "Willard" Henke had joined the band, the guitar-playing on this song and the rest of Pleasure and Pain is excellent. Bob`s guitar is also importent the LP`s "Makin Love and Music" as well as "Sometimes you win"
The best cover version ever is om Pleasure and Pain LP`, JJ Cale`s Clyde.
Which Dr. Hook makes to be a funky rock`roll song.
