STILL the only stoppage loss in Glen Johnson's 65 fight career and you know he wouldve made it all 12 if the ref didnt stop it. Quite frankly a crap stoppage even tho he wasnt gonna win.
@rzagza11 why make a young fighter who is in his mid-20's with an undefeated record take the kind of unnecessary punishment that could alter his career irrevocably? the kind of bashing he was getting ready to receive towards the end there, is the kind of bashings that some young fighters don't always bounce back from. live to fight another day. and he did (praise g-d). dude's about to fight froch, and i for one, think he has a legitimate shot in that fight.
Johnson got his ass schooled just like roy jones would have did in his prime these guys kill me with this winning off hard work and little mind science and no jab
the two best fighters in the last 10 years i think are hopkins, and jones, fuck all boxers today dont even wana fight other champs, apart from the rare one or two like pacman, mosley, cotto, and money
@xcalumt91x AGREED! in my opinion Jones, Mayweather, Hopkins are the best of the last 10 years and you could also make a case for Winky Wright very underrated
hopkins has wanted a rematch with roy since the first lol roy avoided it because he said hopkins was the best guy he ever fought, they might be having a fight soon though after roy vs green but i dont think they should hopkins has always been a great boxer with skill, and hes hard hell fight you and box you, roy relied soley on natural speed, and talent he boxed unconventional because his natural speed made him able to, now hes 43 hes nowhere near the same, so the outcome could be different
Glen always had a good defense in this fight it was those uppercuts that got though his guard and the combinations and Bernard good foot work that gave Glen such problems
I bet if they fought now it would be a def story....That's why B-hop & RJJ are ducking him and no i'm not a glen johnson fan i'm actually a rjj fan more than anybody...
nah....bernard hopkins would not have problems......roy jones Im not sure because I did not see roy jones fight a good legitimite opponent yet. B-Hop would be fine after that pavlik fight...oh yeah b-hop would be juuuuust fine. He probably would knock glen out again. He could have knocked out pavlik but he was being cautious because he is 43.
thats bullshit if you can knock someone out your gonna do it. Thats bullshit about B-hop he couldnt knock out pavlik becuase well id say that his punches didnt have enough power and well come on hes 40 fuckin 3 the mans a legend.
i enjoyed watching roy's highlights...but i have to admit there is one thing that roy can't bank on...boxing. roy can find an open spot on you but you don't fight scared and smother him...he's vunerable. roy requires distance to perform his magic. without that ingredient...fizzle. you just can't have your hands at your waist while the guy is less than a foot away from you.
In the end Jones did bigger things. Hopkins claim to fame was beating 2 welterweights. Hopkins is very good & over his work over the years we can call him great. Still kinda boring & I guess people say he is smart but in truth Holifield perfected this style against Bowe & Tyson. Hit & hold. Hold & turn, then clinch. The point is don't dog Roy for getting old. He did a lot in his day. Hopkins to me is he best middle of all time
sugar ray robinson best mddle weight of all time no dout about that and greatest fighter to ever put on a pair of gloves 5 for more fights with the ragin bull lamato and didnt get knocked out that shows the best middle weight chin wood of been light heayweight cchamp but he fort to gd in that heat and tired out badly and couldnt walk cus of the tired ness didnt lose by ko jus couldnt stay up cus of the heat big respect to robinson without him ali woodnt of had his style neither wood leaonard
u think hopkins does but hopkins dont jones caled him out in 07 at 175 and hopkins turnt it down if som1 beats u ur ment to try ur hardest to get a rematch no matta how long after like jones wants johnson so he fort omar cus he beat jonson and he wants tarver aswell
supose were both right jus glad there gettin it on greats lke sugar ray jus get it on straight after even if he wins heel rematch if they want 2 but its mostly about the money now were as he didnt care about that he use to sometimes giv his hole purse to charity after a fight thats wat made him the best
Johnson did the best he could he had 0 loses at the time but Hopkins was to much 4 him. But Hey Johnson lost fights after this but went on 2 K.O Roy Jones and beat Traver 2 become LT. Heavywieght champ and make some money so good 4 him
its a shame growing up in the 90's i allways wanted to see james toney vs bernard hopkins to bad it never happend there both two slick operators with good jabs both can fight really well on the inside and both will probley be in the hall of fame soon
bernard in 2002 would of ko'd this due by 5 rounds. bernard and roy jones aremy fav boxers. bhop is a tactition and roys jus an animal. very likable. roy in his prime would of killed glenn in roud 2. just like he did to bryant brannon. yea a bum, but same style as glenn johnson. he bull rushes u. the fight is on yourube and roy ko'd him in 2 rounds with 3 ko's in the 2 rounds. bhop in 2002 and roy in 2002 would of been real good. but roy would of beat him.. roy just lost ina bad place. bes p4p
bernard's a beast, lately he's not been the most entertaining, but still, gotta give the man his credit for being in the p4p ranks at 43. He didn't belong in the ring with Jermain Taylor, he's twice his age, no matter how good Hopkins is, 25 vs. 40 yrs old, the age will catch up with you.
And I still gave a lot of rounds to Hopkins in those fights. I guess the second one could be a draw. Had the first one gone 15 rounds, Jermain was getting stopped.
I thought Bernard lost both fights, basically because he only fought 12 of the 24 rounds. but It's hard to keep up with someone half your age, and I'm sure there's no other 41 year old that could have hung in with Jermain better than Bernard did.
I dont think there are anybody in this era who can go 15 rounds with Bernard Hopkins.. They gonna have to knock him out before he knocks them out.. But why arent there 15 rounds anymore??
More experienced, yes; stronger, debatable. Fast twitch muscles and energy levels are not the same in your mid to late thirties as they are in your twenties. And in 2008, Glen is well into old age in boxing years.
good that you mentioned the fast twitch muscles...that has to be developed reguardless of age. im near 40 and faster than players my age. it's in the way we train. sure you catch me at 60 i won't be as fast. but 20-40. not many young guys rule...the only advantage is a devoloping body (when your young). because um...most the belts are held by OLDER fighters-thats a fact. you can count on your hand younger fighters that have held championship belts. esp. heavyweight.
u serious? he might never have dropped but he was taking punishment n bernard has heavy hands. it's when takin lots of punches the acumulation does real damage n johnson was never close to a comeback in the fight. good stoppage preventing unecessary injury. n a good fight, thanks
when i first saw this fight i agreed with you... in a sense of a boxer taking to much punishment. but i believe this was more of a case that glen johnson just dident have a way to win the fight, johnson was just catching punches.... alot where on his gloves but there where still alot of semi flush and flush power shots that his defense couldent catch and made this contest turn into a one side affair instead of a competetive boxing match.
Ha, 'unlikely King would put his champs against Hopkins.'
That MW tourney was designed for Trinidad to win. I luv Tito, but Bhop shit all over that one.

Glen Johnson is not similar to Bryant Brannon at all.
If you saw Johnson's fight against Dawson you would've noticed the way he can defend himself well even while coming forward.
Brannon on the other hand defended punches with his weak chin.
Johnson gives a good fight even to prime Jones. He loses but he would do much better than most of the guys Roy used to fight.
