  • this violin doens't sound like his guarneris ..maybe he's using another violin? great video nonetheless

  • @Flaminggential It's the "Dushkin" alright. What makes you think it's not his Guarneri? I think this has all of the qualities of what I hear in Guarneri violins in general: that rich, velvety, slightly edgy tone, heart-warming timbre, and a booming (but not imposing) projection. All of the things that Pinky coaxes out of the instrument so wonderfully. What maker were you thinking of? Cheers!

  • @TheMaestroBrad oh perhaps it's the recording qualities then? the sound was a bit mroe edgy than I expected or remembered from his recordings. A spectacular performance nonetheless

  • great music

    ChrisPicking

  • I love the music of Max Bruch!

  • I wish I could play like that lol

  • what kind of violin is he playing on, there's definitely certain "god" quality to it...jeez, never heard of this concerto played like this...

  • Can't say I agree with much of his musicality, but the way he gives every note such passion is incredible.

  • I saw the legendary genius Mr. Pinchas Zukerman performed at the Cultural Center in the Philippines back in the 1980's and had a beard or moustache. It was a Breathtaking, Outstanding performance!! I have so much respect for Israeli musicians including Itzhak Perlman!

    '

  • well his sound is powerful , but for this video,

the microphone is adjusted to a high volume.

  • i always get goosebumps when i listen to this piece

  • He plays the "Dushkin" Guarnerius del Gesù violin of 1742.

  • wat violin is he using???

  • zukerman doesn't use violins, he uses cannons strapped to violins with state of the art aiming devices. Beeeeast.

  • está hermoso ese concierto para violín!

  • ...wow I am speechless...

  • His sound is so powerful, unbeliveble.

  • @milstein91 have you ever heard the sound of an e-guitar or a good Drum?

    THATS powerful!

    not this crappy shit!

  • @sbloger1 no, the sound of the most e-guitars aren't hard or powerful.

    Only loud ;)

A violin can be hard and expressive or hard and vocally or transperent....

    Drums and e-guitar can't.

It needs a lot of practice to play only ONE beautiful tone on a violin.

In Comparison to a guitar: You only need good "Electric-Items" to play ONE tone like a proffesional e-guitarist.

Sorry for my bad English :(

  • @refpmeaksedot True. I play violin. It takes years before you start to sound good on it. It also takes hours of practice and patience. I tried to play the guitar once. The guitar is no where near as good a challenge as the violin. The guitar bored me. lol Anyways, electric guitars are just loud. This generation has been conditioned to think that loud and bright lights equals powerful and entertaining. They don't know what true power is. Being boisterous and loud is not power.

  • @refpmeaksedot

  • @sbloger1 i think the only crappy thing is our brain here,e guitar??with a fucking amplifier my gradma can make also a big sound idiot and i don t know why i am even making arguments,,,

  • Played with such authority. This guy owns this piece!

  • I like his style the most for this piece, other recordings are kinda blerg.

  • Again, Pinkas approved he is THE Best!!!! He is in top of the World!!!!!!!!!!!!{:0

  • a beautifully haunting version of the Bruch concerto.

  • oh so this is how this concerto is supposed to sound. seriously i never heard a recording that exemplifies the style of Bruch so well. what a musician

  • Oh...my...gosh...

I've never heard such a majestic opening of this concerto....

  • And I've never heard such a majestic climax of this concerto!

  • 1st:i dont see any mic in his imidiate surrounding..

2nd:i think you might be not so familiar with Mr Zukermans tone-production..

He is the guy with the biggest and loudest sound ever...

  • This is one of the most grossly OVERMIKED recordings I've ever heard of a live performance . . . and I've heard my share of live performances.

One solo violin should not sound louder than an entire violin section playing at full blast, especially since there is at least one world-class Stradivari in the 1st violin section that's equivalent in quality to Zukerman's Cremonese violin.

  • Don't think it's equivalent in quality to Zukerman's Del Gesu...and it doesn't matter the violin but the violinist.

  • Pinchas se está poniendo grande.........los años vienen con ruido

  • its amazing how close his bow is to the bridge..

  • I wholeheartedly agree...he's got such a rich tone & gutsy style to his playing. Just recently heard him play chamber music in La Jolla...it was fabulous. I always look forward to hearing him play...there's no player out there that compares to his tone & style.

  • dang that violins has got muscle O_O...such a full sound

  • Zukerman is definitely one of the best, but he does carry some sort of baggage which makes him not the easiest person to deal with. ...a genius nonetheless and rock solid in his musicianship and technique. Bravo.

  • è un po' lentino,no??

  • is a great performance thanks for upload the video incredible sound amazing

  • Notice how Pinky cuts to the core of the musical gesture rather than playing the exact notation. Very instructive.

  • I've listened to may bruch violin concerto recordings, Heifetz,Perlman,Chang,Chung and more. They're good but don't really have a accent of downbow in 1st movement.

Pinchas Zukerman plays with his passion.

I think his violin is Guarnerius.

People should get out of personal bias.

    Thanks for uploading this video.

(P.S: i know that this clip is from the 70th anniversary dvd and this video's video/audio don't fit together. Is the dvd also slow?

  • He plays the "dushkin" Guarnerius.

And he's an alum of my high school!!

  • He is the best violinist

  • oooooh, i love you so much pinky! the recording doesn't even nearly match your musicianship. bravo, maestro.

  • It's real upsetting for me that the greatest living violinist today has very few recordings available. None of the new generation of violinist have the tone, style, & unique voice of Zukerman. He is one the greats!! It's a shame that his "shoot from the hip" personility has gotten in the way of his popularity. He has pist off a lot of people. But there's no denying, he is a class above the likes of Vengerov, Repin, & Bell...

  • i agree 100%

he's one of my favorite violinists...I had a discussion with Sarah Chang about Zukerman, and she had the most wonderful things to say about him...He also helped her out tremendously in her career as well.

but you're right. He has a very love/hate personality, but that should not come into consideration when commentating on his playing

  • Now...I heard Sarah Chang for the first time playing the Four Seasons; she is wonderful. Truly, no comparison to the likes of Midori. This girl's got guts & a wonderful tone! I think she is much better than the likes of Vengerov & Bell. I haven't heard Repin recently, but wasn't impressed with his dry tone. And they have no voice. You can't tell them apart!

  • i went to Sarah Chang's concert in SF this Spring, she was playing this piece. i remembered how excited i was before i went. but maybe i expected too much, i have to say it's quite disappointing.

btw, Zukerman + Zubin Mehta, that's the best combination you can find in the world. thanks for posting it.

  • I disagree. Vengerov is superior in both technique and musicality. Sarah Chang's vibrato is wide, and unreserved when such a sound is needed. Vengerov's technique is much brighter than Bell's, and his tone is superior also. A few friends of mine went to a concert of Chang's this year and were thoroughly disappointed by her interpretation of the Brahm's. I won't give a testimony on the account that I wasn't there, but nonetheless, I think Vengerov is quite a bit ahead of Chang.

  • dont put vengerov and repin with bell. bell is not at their stage yet

  • Simply fabulous performance.
